2 internet campaign, securing a rare post adjudication injunction against such conduct in the future. In 2013, Mr. Genova successfully defended a candidate for New Jersey Assembly from an effort to remove him from the ballot for alleged violations of the Hatch Act. Mr. Genova successfully represented a professional hockey team and arena management organization in a commercial arbitration resulting in an $81 million dollar award against the Newark Housing Authority in rent set-offs for the duration of his client s 30 year lease. Since 2012, Mr. Genova represented a major international engineering firm in connection with procurement and related vendor eligibility issues before numerous state and bi-state agencies emanating from his client s entry into a deferred prosecution agreement with the federal government. In 2012, Mr. Genova represented the campaign of President Barack Obama, successfully defending against an effort to remove the President from the New Jersey primary election ballot because of alleged birther claims. Mr. Genova successfully represented the Democratic National Committee, preserving a 28 year standing order of the United States District Court, enjoining discriminatory ballot security measures whose purpose or effect is to suppress minority voter participation (Mr. Genova originally negotiated this standing order for this longtime client, and has repeatedly advocated for its enforcement over the last three decades). In 2012, Mr. Genova represented the operator of New Jersey s largest horse racing venue, the Meadowlands, who determined to ban the participation of a horse trainer at the facility. In 2012, Mr. Genova successfully defended the majority members of the New Jersey Legislative Apportionment Commission in a challenge to the legislative district map adopted at the decennial census by the Commission. Mr. Genova successfully defended the President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities from a whistleblower action initiated by the agency s chief fiscal officer, securing a posttrial, directed verdict in his client s favor. In 2010, Mr. Genova served as co-counsel on behalf of United States Senator Robert Menendez, rebuffing an effort to recall the Senator from office. In 2010, Mr. Genova served as lead counsel on behalf of a major developer, successfully withstanding efforts to deprive the developer from exercising its development rights at a strategically located development site at the foot of the George Washington Bridge. Other publicly reported and significant representations include: The successful appeal and vacating of a multi-million dollar judgment of divorce on behalf of former NFL standout Michael Strahan. The successful representation of former U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg resulting in a judgment allowing for him to replace former U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli, who resigned as a candidate, on the ballot after the statutory deadline for doing so had expired. The successful representation of Leona Helmsley s personal chef, who was permitted to pursue claims against a developer for a real estate commission despite the chef not being licensed as a real estate broker. Served as special labor counsel on behalf of the State of New Jersey and representative on behalf of former New Jersey Governors James J. Florio, James E. McGreevey and Jon S.

3 Corzine in negotiating collective bargaining agreements with unions representing the State s 50,000 plus employees, negotiating, in 2007, the first ever requirement that state employees contribute a percentage of salary towards the cost of health care, resulting in millions of dollars of savings to the public. Served as counsel or special counsel to the 1980 N.J. Congressional Redistricting Commission; the 1990 N.J. Legislative Apportionment Commission; the 2000 N.J. Legislative Apportionment Commission and the 2010 N.J. Legislative Apportionment Commission. Labor and Employment Mr. Genova is a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He served a two-year term as Chairman of the Section on Labor and Employment Law of the New Jersey State Bar Association from His Labor and Employment practice includes clients in a diverse array of industries, including construction, financial services, telecom, utilities, manufacturing, government, transportation, healthcare, casino and hospitality sectors, among others, in collective bargaining, traditional labor law, employment litigation and the negotiation of project labor agreements. Political & Campaign Finance Law Mr. Genova s experience in election law and in the representation of political figures is extensive and has spanned almost three decades. He has represented candidates for public office for the offices of State Legislature, City Council, Mayor, County Executive, United States Congress, U.S. Senate, Governor, and President of the United States, and/or their respective campaigns. His representation in election law matters includes ballot questions, ballot access, absentee ballot disputes, voter eligibility, election recounts and rechecks, Voting Rights Act issues, election law, campaign finance and questions pertaining to the powers and duties of election officials. Such matters have required Mr. Genova to appear in both federal and state courts as well as before the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission and the Federal Election Commission. Appeals As an appellate advocate, Mr. Genova appears regularly before the New Jersey Supreme Court and Appellate Courts in a variety of practice disciplines, including employment law, labor law, municipal corporations, election law and business law. Among the more significant cases in which he has appeared are New Jersey Turnpike Authority v. Local 196, 190 N.J. 283 (2007); New Jersey Transit Bus Operations, Inc. v. Community and Public Service Mr. Genova has been active in numerous philanthropic and community activities, participating as a member of several boards. In 1991, he served as Chairman of the New Jersey Urban Development Corporation. From he served as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He is a Trustee of the Newark Museum, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson & Union Counties, NJ Seeds, and a member of the Montclair State University Foundation.
