2 About the Author Joseph A. Tringali is a lifelong boating enthusiast and long-time member of Buffalo Yacht Club (New York). He has served as Commodore of North Palm Beach Yacht Club; Commodore of Palm Beach Sailing Club; Commodore and a founding member of the Great Lakes Chapter, Matthews Boat Owners Association; President and District Director of District 8, International Order of the Blue Gavel; a founding member of the Florida Commodores Association; and a founding member and first Provost of the Academy of Yachting Officers and Professionals. P/C Tringali is a Life Member of United States Power Squadrons and holds the grade of Senior Navigator, having successfully completed all of the advanced grade and elective courses in the Squadron s educational program. Admitted to the practice of law in both Florida and New York, P/C Tringali served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida, where he regularly appeared in all federal and state courts. He is a member of the United States Supreme Court bar, a former Mayor of North Palm Beach, Florida, and was elected to three terms on the Village Counsel. He has served as Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Buffalo, Assistant District Attorney of Erie County, New York, and Assistant State Attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida. While living in Florida, P/C Tringali has served as president of the Guild of Catholic Lawyers of Palm Beach County. He and his wife served for three years as president and secretary of the Friends of Fisher House of West Palm Beach, a local group dedicated to providing free lodging for families of Veterans being treated at the regional Veterans Administration Hospital. P/C Tringali is an active alumnus of the of the University at Buffalo Law School, and a loyal member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity where he served both on the International Tribunal and as District Justice for New York, Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. He is a current member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and received the Order of Merlin Award in While living in Buffalo, P/C Tringali was active in the Knights of St. John and was appointed to the Battalion Staff of the First Battalion, Second 596

4 About the Author Regiment. He was invested with the Noble Degree of the Knights of St. John by Bishop Edward D. Head at a formal ceremony held there in St. Joseph s Cathedral in October P/C Tringali held the rank of Major in the Civil Air Patrol and served as Commander of the TAK (Tonawanda-Amherst-Kenmore) Squadron, which was named Squadron of the Year during his tenure. Among other awards, he received an Aircrew Find ribbon for being the navigator of a CAP aircraft that was successfully deployed on a nighttime mission to locate an airplane emitting emergency distress signals. He later served as Deputy Group Commander of Western New York Group, Civil Air Patrol. In addition to Yachting Customs and Courtesies, P/C Tringali is the author of I Was That Baby, his personal story of growing up adopted and finding his birth family at 56 years old; Harbor of Refuge, a novel of romance and redemption featuring characters living aboard boats and belong to a yacht club in Southwest Florida; and A Quiet Family Murder, a novel detailing the many strategic decisions faced by trial lawyers when a case that begins as a simple murder prosecution escalates into a matter of statewide political intrigue. (He insists that both of his novels are pure fiction although some members of the Palm Beach County Bar unofficially swear they see certain resemblances to colorful but long-deceased local characters.) He has also written articles for numerous periodicals including The Florida Bar Journal and Lakeland Boating magazine. P/C Tringali lives in North Palm Beach, Florida, with his wife, the former Mary Lou Privitera, who is a graduate of D Youville College, and holds 597

5 Yachting Customs and Courtesies a master s degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University and a doctorate in management from the University of Phoenix. They have two children: Lt. Col. John A. Tringali USAF (Ret.), a pilot for Delta Air Lines, and Elizabeth A. Tringali, PA-C, the owner of Tringali Vibrant Health, a medical practice specializing in wellness and anti-ageing in West Palm Beach, Florida. 598
