1 Baron R. Ah Moo BLI Capital Group Mr. Ah Moo is the Founding Partner of BLI Capital Group, a Global Hospitality Advisory and Investment Firm. With over 25 years of sector experience in Investment, Finance and Operations, BLI has consulted and worked on projects in the US, Asia and Europe. Current and previous clientele include Private Equity, Institutional Investors, Family Office and Major Hotel Operators. Previously, Mr. Ah Moo was the Head of Hotels-Capital Markets for Colliers International based in Hong Kong and also served as the CEO of Indochina Hotels and Resorts which managed the largest private portfolio of leisure real estate in Vietnam. Mr. Ah Moo is an elected member of the Alumni Council of Cornell University and has authored several white papers and industry articles including Chapter 1- Pursuing the Right Strategic Direction, for the book, Strategic Hospitality Leadership; The Asian Initiative. A Native Hawaiian, Mr. Ah Moo is a member of the Hospitality Asset Managers Association and holds a Master s Degree in Hospitality Finance and Marketing from Cornell University. Aya Aso SAVVY Collective Aya Aso is the Founder & CEO of SAVVY Collective Co., Ltd. Prior to her new venture, she was the founder & ex-ceo of AGORA Hospitalities Co., Ltd., founded in 2007 with a strong vision to establish A Collection of Beautiful Japan, a collection of boutique hotels and Japanese traditional ryokans throughout Japan. She has been actively expanding it s portfolio comprises of 13 boutique hotels and traditional Japanese ryokans. Prior to AGORA, she was a Senior Vice President of Business Development for ISHIN Hotels Group. Her hospitality career began at the Sheraton Grande Los Angeles, from which she moved to the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel. Returning to her roots, she later joined Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Japan, and then PricewaterhouseCoopers BPO Japan K.K. as financial accountant, after which she took on the role of Executive Director of Operations at Space Design Inc. to develop and operate 14 serviced apartments in Tokyo. Aya graduated from the University of Southern California (USA) with a Bachelor of Music from Thornton School of Music, Piano Performance. She is also a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from University of Wales (UK). Ashwani Bajaj Amburaya Hotels & Resorts Born in Bangkok, Thailand, Ashwani Bajaj (Sunny) has been in the hospitality development business now for 26 years. He established Amburaya Hotels & Resorts in 2000 and since then has successfully forged a number of business alliances with different internationally-renowned operators like Starwood (now part of Marriott International) and IHG. Today, the group has four hotels in operation, which are the Bel-Aire Bangkok, the InterContinental Pattaya Resort, the W Koh Samui, and the Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam located in the well-known shopping district of Siam Square in Bangkok. Bill Barnett C9 Hotelworks Co., LTD. Bill Barnett is a globally recognized hospitality, tourism and real estate advisor. He is the Founder and Managing Director of Asia-based C9 Hotelworks. In addition to being a leading consultant, he is a frequent speaker at industry events and conferences. With over 30 years experience in the Asia Pacific region, he has an extensive background in hotel operations, development and asset management. His past employment highlights include Senior Corporate roles at international hotel chains and publically listed companies. Bill is considered to be one of the foremost industry experts in the hotel residences sector. As an entrepreneur Bill have co-developed two successful residential projects in Thailand and is actively involved in the online property marketplace FazWaz.com as Chief Strategy Officer. He is also currently acting as Business Development Advisor for Le Pirate International, which is a fast growing regional beach club chain. To date Bill is the author of four books on travel, property and hospitality under the titles of Slave to the Bean, Collective Swag, It Might Get Weird and Last Call. 3 Imad Barrakad Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development, SMIT Since 2011, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Moroccan Agency for Tourism Development (SMIT), M. Imad Barrakad greatly contributed in the development of the national tourism sector. In fact, M. Barrakad worked effectively in the implementation of tourism projects within the National Strategic Vision 2020, which aims to make of the Kingdom among the top 20 destinations worldwide. Various projects were launched in order to diversify the final product that the Kingdom offers as the city of leisure and culture of Rabat and Casablanca, the Leisure City of Tamaouanza (Agadir), the Resort Desert Dakhla, Morocco's Cultural Theme Park in Marrakech etc. It is to note that SMIT has also strengthened its support role of investment in the sector by restructuring Beach resorts in Morocco. Also, upon his arrival to SMIT, M. Barrakad strengthened the promotion actions of the company through an active participation to international events dedicated to the promotion of tourism investment in order to boost and maintain the investment attractiveness of the destination Morocco for tourism investment. Prior to joining SMIT, M. Barrakad was the head of Sales and Marketing at the Moroccan National Office of Electricity, an experience which equipped him with a good field knowledge. M. Barrakad has a global experience in project management and financial planning. In the past few years, he had also extensive interest and involvement in social marketing as well as project development. M. Barrakad is an industrial engineer and has a Master degree in Project Management. Andrea Belfanti ISHC Andrea Belfanti is the Executive Director for the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC). Andrea has been with ISHC since 2009, has 20 years experience in the hospitality industry and has previously held positions with InterContinental Hotels Group, The High Museum of Art, Walt Disney World and Arnold Palmer s Bay Hill Club and Lodge. Andrea earned her bachelor s degree from the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration at the University of South Carolina. ISHC is a professional society with over 200 members with work experience in over 60 countries. Membership is by invitation only and members are owners, principals, directors and/or officers in their firms and are leaders in the industry in their respective areas of expertise. Bill Bensley Bensley Design Studio Bill Bensley a gardener, fisherman, architect, interior designer, wide-ranging explorer, landscape architect, lover of all things natural, was hatched in Orange County in 1959, California, when orange trees grew there. The Harvard graduate was invited to work in Asia by classmate Lek Bunnag: I had a burning desire for adventure, so I left the day after graduation! He worked in Hong Kong and Singapore, and in 1989 opened shop in Bangkok. By 1990 he met his long term guiding light Jirachai, and started BENSLEY s Bali branch. With his team of over 150 talented individuals, Bensley has designed over 200 resorts, hotels and palaces in more than 30 countries. 4 Peter Benudiz Sidley Austin LLP Peter Benudiz is a partner in Sidley s Century City office and co-leader of the global Real Estate practice. He is also leading the firm s Global Hospitality group. Recognized as one of the leading hospitality lawyers in the United States, Peter s multidisciplinary practice focuses on all aspects touching hospitality and real estate. He is regularly called upon to provide strategic advice and guidance to boards of directors and senior management of hospitality related companies. Peter has advised on billions of dollars domestic and cross-border leveraged private equity hospitality deals. Peter has been ranked in Band 1 by Chambers USA, since Chambers began ranking lawyers in the hospitality industry. Peter earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and graduated with an A.B. from the University of California, Berkeley. David A. Blumenfeld Paul Hastings David Blumenfeld is the partner in charge of the Hong Kong Real Estate practice of Paul Hastings, and is the chair of the firm s Asia Hospitality and Leisure practices. Mr. Blumenfeld focuses his practice on real estate, real estate finance, and hospitality matters, particularly on the acquisition, disposition, financing, development, and construction of significant office, hospitality, and other commercial, mixed-use, and residential projects. Gareth Boytt Estilo Group Gareth has over 35 years experience in all facets of hospitality management, hotel refurbishment and construction, business management and property development. He has worked in countries such as Egypt, Thailand, Maldives, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia for companies such as Richard Branson s Virgin Hotels and Clubs, Toga Hospitality, Choice International and Vista International and currently is Managing Director / Owner of Estilo Group an end to end Design, Develop, Operate company specialising in hotels, retirement, Medi hotels and student accommodation. Gareth is architect of the soon to be released industry game changing - Harmony Technology Platform and a specialist in unitized construction. Bruce Bromley Soneva (Thailand) Ltd. Bruce joined Soneva in 2012 to lead the Group s finance function. Bruce is an experienced finance professional having spent nearly 20 years in the field, much of that time in the investment banking and fund management industries in the City of London. Bruce also has considerable experience investing in social and environmental fields and worked closely with the Soneva on the development of the Soneva Foundation. Bruce is a British national who grew up in South Africa. He has a degree in Economics from the University of Natal, South Africa, a Masters in Hospitality Management from Cornell University and a Cert BA from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. 5 Robert C. Broadfoot Political & Economic Risk Consultancy, Ltd. Robert Broadfoot is the Founder and Managing Director of Political & Economic Risk Consultancy, Ltd. (PERC). Trained at Oberlin College in Ohio, where he received a BA honors degree in economics, Bob moved to Hong Kong in 1975, when he founded PERC to help banks and multinationals identify and manage country risks in Asia. He resided in Hong Kong for 37 years and still maintains a base there, but he and his wife returned to the US in 2012 in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He directs PERC s research and scenario planning services and edits PERC s fortnightly newsletter, Asian Intelligence. His analysis of Asian developments is frequently quoted by such publications as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, as well as by television broadcasters including CNN and Bloomberg. He is a contributing author to a book called China Into the Future Making Sense of the World s Most Dynamic Economy. When he is not in Asia on specific research projects, he divides his time between Seattle, Washington and Coeur d Alene, Idaho, in search of trout stupid enough to go after his poorly presented dry flies. Adam Brownstein Booking.com Adam Brownstein serves as Regional Director for North Asia at Booking.com (a member of the Priceline Group of Companies) overseeing the Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korean markets. Prior to joining Priceline in 2015, Adam founded buuteeq.com (acquired by Priceline) in Seattle, Washington, which evolved into BookingSuite. He is also the founder of Red Safi, a digital advertising agency. Adam has also served in executive roles at Microsoft, where he led the company s efforts in developing Surface as Product Manager and at Sony where he served as Business Development Director for Asia and Marketing Director for PlayStation Latin America. Adam holds a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He lives in Tokyo with his wife and two children. Stephan G. Brutti SOCIAL f+b by design Some say food runs in his blood, during his formative years Stephan was learning his craft in his family s restaurants, working in and managing a number of the establishments, as well as a gelato factory. Sharpening those skills Stephan was a driving force in the creation of SOCIAL F+B by design, a Singapore based specialist design studio with a process that calls out & agrees the brand identity of each of its projects, crafting theatrical F&B spaces that deliver on the brand promise. The ID runs alongside, through each Phase of the works, with in-house Branding / Lighting / AV and Art Curation, allowing the vision of the space to be maintained and delivered to the operations and marketing teams as a cohesive and clearly understood product. Whilst honing his craft in London, Stephan obtained a BA (first class honours), Interior and Spatial Design from Chelsea College of Arts. He managed and designed restaurants in London before moving to Singapore in 2012 to continue his passion for designing stunning F&B experiences, working with some of the top, hotel and stand-alone operators to create and develop globally successful brands. 6 James E. Burba BHN Jim Burba is the co-founder of Burba Hotel Network LLC (BHN), the worldwide leader in developing and producing conferences for the hotel and tourism investment community. BHN hosts ten events each year around the world including: ALIS, ALIS Law, ALIS Summer Update, AOCAP, HICAP, HICAP UPDATE, HIFI, CHRIS, HOLA, and Hot.E. In addition to these annual events, BHN and Google teamed up in 2008 to host Digital Discovery Day (D3), in 2011, Burba was retained by the ITC, a joint agency of the UN and WTO to help organize WEDF which focused on tourism development in the least developed countries of the world, and in 2015 BHN was retained by the World Bank Group to help organize its first global tourism investment event. Actively involved in the hotel investment arena for over 35 years, Burba was formerly: a principal at Pannell Kerr Forster, Senior Managing Director with Insignia/Hotel Partners, VP/Worldwide Director of Advisory Services at WATG, and President at Horwath HTL (US). A member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) and the Industry Real Estate Finance Advisory Council (IREFAC), Burba has received numerous honors including the Educational Institute Lamp of Knowledge Award, IREFAC s first Crystal Ball Award, and the ISHC Pioneer Award. In 2007, California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, re-appointed Burba to the California Travel & Tourism Commission and he recently served on its Executive Committee. In 2013, Burba and BHN co-founder Bob Hayes formed Burba Hayes, an entertainment industry production company. The two also co-authored the book Smart Partners, where they discuss their principles for building, sustaining, and growing successful partnerships in business and life. Chen Infinity Global Real Estate Stephen Chi Hsu Chen is the Founding and Managing Partner of Ithaca Investment Partners Holdings, and operates the cross border real estate investment and asset advisory works via Infinity Global Real Estate Advisors Limited, a collaboration advisory platform established with Israeli-based Infinity Equity Group. Stephen is based in Shanghai, but frequently travels between Asia, North America and Europe. Stephen has covered numerous cross border investment mandates in Greater China regions and the United States for more than 15 years and managed assets and portfolios valued more than USD 3.0 billion. Stephen has provided investment and strategic advisories to multinational investment clients and high-net-worth investors in Greater Asian Regions and the U.S., with focuses on capital markets strategies, development positioning and asset management implementations. Previously, Stephen was China Head of Project Development and Asset Management of METRO Properties China and held the Head of China position of CBRE China in Investment Properties and Capital Markets Advisories. Prior to 2008, Stephen was the Managing Director of Bascom China Real Estate, the China subsidiary of Irvine California based private equity company, The Bascom Group LLC. Derek Cheung New Century Asset Management Having joined New Century Asset Management Limited in 2013, Mr. Cheung has contributed to the successful Hong Kong IPO of New Century REIT and the various subsequent acquisitions in both China and Europe. Of the more than 26 years of experience in the financial industry, he spent about 20 years in analysing and investing in Asia Pacific and global property market. Mr. Cheung was previously Asia Pacific Chief Investment Officer of Cohen & Steers Asia Ltd, Head of Greater China Investment Research of DBS Vickers (HK) Ltd. and Head of Hong Kong & China Property Research at HSBC Securities. He also worked previously at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Salomon Smith Barney, Citibank and Arthur Andersen & Co. Mr. Cheung is currently also an independent non-executive director of Springland International Holdings Limited (HK stock code 1700) and Best Pacific International Holdings Limited (HK stock code 2111). 7 Suchad Chiaranussati SC Capital Partners Group Mr. Chiaranussati founded the SC Capital Partners Group in 2004, under which the Real Estate Capital Asia Partners (RECAP) funds were borne. RECAP is a series of four opportunistic Pan-Asian real estate private equity funds which have a successful 12-year track record and $3 billion in invested capital. The Group also launched a Pan-Asian focused Core Plus fund in late Mr. Chiaranussati leads SC Capital s team of 38 professionals, and serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee, participating in acquisition, value enhancement and realization activities. Before forming SC Capital Partners, Mr. Chiaranussati spent six years with Westbrook Real Estate Partners. He opened its Asia office in Singapore in March 1999 and served as a Managing Director. Before joining WREP, Mr. Chiaranussati spent seven years at J.P. Morgan in the Proprietary Investment and Investment Banking Groups, focusing on real estate and financial institutions. Prior to that, Mr. Chiaranussati worked with Temasek Holdings and the Central Bank of Thailand. Mr. Chiaranussati received an Honors Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Masters of Science in Management Science from Imperial College in London. Peng Sum Choe Frasers Hospitality Group Pte Ltd Mr Choe Peng Sum, 56, brings with him over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry. As Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Hospitality Group Pte Ltd, he has overall charge of the business performance and global expansion of a chain of serviced residences, hotel residences and boutique hotels worldwide. Today, Frasers Hospitality Group Pte Ltd is regarded as the top three global extended stay hospitality operators with S$2 billion in assets under management. He is also a Non Executive Director of Frasers Hospitality Trust, the first global hotel and serviced residence trust listed in Singapore since 2014 with close to S$1.9 billion in assets under management. Mr Choe stewarded the company from its inception in 1996 with two properties and 400 keys in Singapore, to currently owning and managing 148 properties across more than 80 cities globally with a total of over 23,600 keys. Mr Choe started his career in the hospitality industry with Westin and subsequently Shangri La International in 1981, where he was awarded the Shangri La overseas scholarship. He graduated from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York) with a Bachelor of Science with Distinction. He was awarded the National Dean s List (USA) as well as the Phi Kappa Phi for academic excellence. Mr Choe held senior management positions with Shangri La Singapore and Shangri La Shanghai, China, before returning to Singapore in 1996 to start up the hospitality arm of Singapore conglomerate, Fraser & Neave, Ltd. Kevin Colket Starwood Capital Group Kevin Colket is a Managing Director at Starwood Capital Group. Prior to relocating to Hong Kong in March 2015 to lead the firm s Asia efforts, Mr. Colket was Co- Head of the Firms Global Hotel Acquisitions Group based in London and led Starwood Capital s hospitality acquisition efforts in Europe from Since joining Starwood Capital s Greenwich, C.T. office in the U.S. in 2007, where he worked until moving to the U.K. in 2012, Mr. Colket has successfully led more than $4 billion in closed equity and debt transactions. Mr. Colket has also asset-managed many of the Firm s key hospitality investments and made several large mezzanine loans for Starwood Property Trust. Prior to joining Starwood Capital, Mr. Colket worked as Director of Acquisitions and Development for Edinburgh Management, a U.S. based hotel joint venture with the Bank of Scotland. Before that, Mr. Colket held various finance and investment banking positions at Goldman, Sachs & Co., Bank of Boston (now Bank of America), and Paine Webber (now UBS). Cronin Wharf Hotels An Australian, Dr. Cronin has an extensive career and track record in hotels and hospitality throughout Asia and Australia and was appointed President of Wharf Hotels (formerly known as Marco Polo Hotels) in February 2016 after serving as VP Sales & Marketing from Her initial remit was to launch the new luxury hotel brand, Niccolo and open the first of the luxury portfolio, Niccolo Chengdu in This has set the benchmark for new openings in Chongqing, Changsha and Suzhou, including the opening of the new HK flagship property in the conservation project, The Murray, Hong Kong, a Niccolo Hotel this year. Jennifer graduated with a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2016 from Bond University based on her PhD research, titled Empowering Readiness; influencing crisis management success outcomes. Last year Jennifer was also conferred Bond University's most prestigious alumni accolade; the Robert Stable Alumni Medal, for her exceptional achievement in bridging academia and industry culminated with Jennifer receiving the 2016 APAC BMW Corporate Hotelier of the Year Award. Her commitment to professional development and supporting future hoteliers is evidenced with her appointment to Chairperson of the Industry Advisory Committee for the SHTM, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as well as the Advisory Board of Bond Business School. Marc Dardenne Jumeirah Group Marc Dardenne joined Jumeirah in September 2016 as Group Chief Operating Officer and oversees Group operations across its international portfolio. Marc has a long and established career as a hotelier having worked internationally for more than 30 years. He has been instrumental in the development of a number of brands and curated guest experience across a range of diverse hospitality assets including hotels, branded residences, serviced apartments, resorts and clubs and brings his unique insight, global expertise and passion for hospitality to Jumeirah. Marc s appointment hails his return to Dubai after 5 years in Singapore. His experience and distinct contribution will further enhance the Jumeirah management team as well as Jumeirah s continued evolution as a world leading hospitality brand. A Belgium national, Marc has lived and worked in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East and is fluent in French, English and German. Ricco de Blank Sun Hung Kai Properties Ricco de Blank is the CEO of SHKP Hotels, a position he has held since SHKP Hotels portfolio of 26 hotels includes premium and luxury properties in Hong Kong including: Four Seasons, The Ritz-Carlton, W Hotels and many others. Before joining SHKP, world s largest property developer, de Blank spent over 15 years with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in various executive positions, after 4 years with The Walt Disney Co. 9 Mieke De Schepper Expedia Group Mieke De Schepper is the Vice President Asia Pacific for Expedia Lodging Partner Services. In this role, she is responsible for managing the relationships and operations with the group s growing and vibrant hotel portfolio in the region. De Schepper leads an experienced team based in more than 15 countries and is focused on acquiring new hotel inventory and maximising hotel partners exposure on more than 200+ global travel booking sites. De Schepper is also a non-executive member of the supervisory board of trivago. Prior to Expedia, Mieke was the Managing Director of Philips Lighting Singapore and emerging markets. She started her career at Philips in global product marketing for the Video & Multimedia Applications. Subsequently, Mieke was appointed Senior Director of Consumer Lighting Marketing and Channel Development for Asia Pacific. Before joining Philips, Mieke was a consultant in McKinsey & Company, based in Europe. A Dutch national, Mieke moved to Singapore in 2004, her home ever since. Mieke holds an MBA from INSEAD and an MSc in Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. Paul K. Dean Dean & Associates Ltd. Paul Dean has had over 30+ years involvement with international resort development and recreational real estate, with an emphasis on mixed use resorts. This includes hands-on involvement with the setting up of resorts and product legal structures in more than 20 jurisdictions. With the creation of innovative product structures for recreational real estate including project governance, rental programs, owner services, distressed resort project workouts and turnarounds. He has extensive experience of working with global hospitality brands including Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Jumeirah, Kempinski, Mandarin Oriental, Marriott and Starwood. He has worked with boutique and regional brands such as De Vere [UK], Franklyn, Gleneagles, Isrotel, Savoy Madeira, Six Senses, Soneva, Onyx and Yoo. He is co-author of the Encyclopaedia of Forms & Precedents Vo; 41A - Shared Ownership published by Lexis-Nexis; All forms of Recreational Real Estate including Branded Residences, BTUL, Condo-hotels, Fractional Interests and Private Residence Clubs plus vacation ownership. Tchou currently serves as Senior Advisor Greater China, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. Since joining Hyatt in 1970, Mr. Tchou has worked his way up from being Rooms Division Manager, Executive Assistant Manager, Hotel Manager to General Manager at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, to regional positions as Area Vice President, and Senior Vice President & Managing Director Asia Pacific. The previous capacity of Mr Tchou was Group President for the Asia Pacific region. As one of the first employees of Hyatt in Asia, Mr. Tchou was instrumental in introducing Hyatt into mainland China over 27 years ago, and has played an irreplaceable role in establishing Hyatt s stronghold in the region. With more than 40 years tenure with Hyatt, Mr. Tchou has gained great respect and recognition throughout the company and the industry. Pum is the real estate sector coverage banker, specialising in hospitality projects in Thailand. Pum has over 10-years experience in the hospitality sector, starting from her earlier career in the Corporate Finance Department at Six Senses Resorts and Spas, where she was part of the team that bought out the stake held by Deutsche Bank and was also responsible for several refinancing projects in Thailand and the Maldives which raised debt of over two billion baht in the span of 18 months. Oliver B. Tittmann XCUBE Modular Oliver has been working in China for 15 years. His experience spans real estate financing, procurement of building and construction materials, and modular buildings. Oliver began his own business in 2008, combining engineering, procurement, and project management to deliver turn-key modular and light gauge steel residential projects to clients in Europe, Africa and Asia.
