3 City of Hope I nd us t ry G roup s For over four decades, industry affiliated support groups have embraced City of Hope and its mission to find the cure to cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Twenty-one distinct groups across the country share a commitment to City of Hope and its mission to unlock the answers to cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS. Today, industry group donations account for one-third of all funds generated to drive continued research, treatment and education programs at City of Hope.
4 CITY OF HOP Apparel Industries Group The Apparel Industries Group, established in 1913, gathers industry leaders from all areas of the garment and textile industries including manufacturers, suppliers and related financial companies such as banks, CPAs, factors and attorneys. Led by current president Debbie Steinberg, the Apparel Industries Group raises funds for City of Hope through cause marketing, personal giving and an annual gala honoring an outstanding member in his/her field. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Eli Simsollo and Josef Simsolo of Simso Tex. Arizona Construction Industries Alliance The Arizona Construction Industries Alliance (ACIA), established in 2004, gathers construction, real estate development and architectural design leaders in support of City of Hope. Led by Bruce Bosley, the ACIA raises funds for City of Hope through its annual Spirit of Life campaign. The 2008 Spirit of Life Gala honored Walt Brown Jr., general partner at Diversified Partners. Chicago Construction and Real Estate Council The Chicago Construction and Real Estate Council, established in 1992, gathers executives from the commercial construction and real estate industries as well their ancillary industries: design, engineering, finance and legal. Led by Michael Szkatulski, senior managing director, Mesirow Financial Real Estate, the Chicago Construction and Real Estate Council raises funds for City of Hope through a Spirit of Life Award dinner. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Jeff Riemer, executive vice president, Bovis Lend Lease. Graphics Industry Council City of Hope s Graphics Industry Council, established in 2001, gathers commercial printers, equipment manufacturers, suppliers and brokers, primarily in the Orange County area. Led by board chair Joe Marsico of Prisco, the Graphics Industry Council raises funds for City of Hope through an annual golf tournament in Fullerton, California.
5 E S industry groups Foodservice & Hospitality Industry The Foodservice & Hospitality Industry has supported City of Hope for nearly 20 years through the generous support of Southern California based foodservice operators, suppliers and vendors. Today the group is led by industry veterans Howard Gordon and Adam Burke, with financial support coming through corporate events held by the Panda Cares Foundation, The Cheesecake Factory Oscar and Evelyn Overton Charitable Foundation, and Hilton Hotels. Greater Chicago Packaging Council The Greater Chicago Packaging Council, established over 21 years ago, gathers members from the Midwest packaging industry at their annual golf outing at Cantigny in Wheaton, Ill. This event is the longest running event for City of Hope s Chicago Office. Hardware/Homebuilding Industry The Hardware/Homebuilding Industry, established in 1982, gathers retailers, manufacturers and manufacturers reps from across the industry to serve as volunteers and contributors to City of Hope. Led by co-chair Paul Hylbert, president and chief executive officer, ProBuild Holdings and Bruce Merino, retired vice president of merchandising services of The Home Depot, the Hardware/Homebuilding Industry raises funds for City of Hope through annual events across the country, cause marketing programs and employee giving. Key events include The Spirit of Life Gala, typically held one day prior to the opening of the International Builders Show. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala honored Bruce Merino, vice president of merchandising services, The Home Depot. Several golf/dinner events, sponsored and hosted by companies within the industry, are also held throughout the year. Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council The Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council, established in 1996, gathers executives representing a cross-section of the commercial real estate industry, including property owners, developers and managers, banks, brokers, construction, insurance, investment and title companies, as well as law and architecture firms. Led by council president, Larry Schmidt and founding chair, Richard Ziman, the council raises funds for City of Hope through events and personal giving. Key events include the Spirit of Life gala held each fall and Racing for Hope held every spring at Santa Anita Park. The 2008 Spirit of Life Gala honored A. Larry Chapman, executive vice president and group head of commercial real estate for Wells Fargo.
6 CITY OF HOP Music and Entertainment Industy Group The Music and Entertainment Industry Group, established in 1973, gathers executives from the music and entertainment industries, including: record labels, music publishing, entertainment law, promotion, distribution, management, interactive and digital industries. Led by David Renzer, chair, Gary Stiffelman, president, Peter Grosslight and Rob Light, national campaign co-chairs, the Music and Entertainment Industry Group raises funds for City of Hope through events, cause marketing, sponsorship, third party relationships and personal giving. Key events include the annual Spirit of Life Gala, Taste of Hope, Comedy Roast, Nashville Celebrity Softball Challenge, Concert for Hope and Songs of Hope. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Tim Leiweke, president and chief executive officer of AEG. National Home Furnishings Industry The National Home Furnishings Industry (NHFI), established in 1965, gathers industry leaders from the manufacturing, retail, supply, media and accessories sectors. The NHFI National Board is led by co-presidents Jena Hall and Roger Friesen. The NHFI raises funds for City of Hope through annual events and personal gifts. Key events include the Hike for Hope, Midwest Dinner Cruise, West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament and the Spirit of Life Award dinner. The 2009 Spirit of Life Award was presented to William Colegrove, general manager and chief executive officer of aspenhome, along with several key executives at aspenhome, Irvin Blumkin, chairman and chief executive officer of Nebraska Furniture Mart, Jeff Child, president of RC Willey, William Kimbrell, chief executive officer of Star Furniture, and Eliot Tatelman, president and chief executive officer of Jordan's Furniture. National Insurance Industry Council City of Hope s National Insurance Industry Council (NIIC), established in 1978, gathers industry leaders from the most prominent life, property and casualty companies, law firms, brokers, accounting firms, reinsurers, executive placement firms and actuaries in the insurance industry. Led by council president Jerry Sullivan, the NIIC raises funds for City of Hope through its annual Spirit of Life Award Dinner and personal gifts. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor James Weidner, chief executive officer of the Cooperative of American Physicians.
7 E S industry groups National Office Products Council The National Office Products Council (NOPC), established in 1983, is dedicated to the long-term health, development and growth of the annual industry fundraising campaign benefiting City of Hope. The 20 person board is made up of influential company leaders representing the entire spectrum of the industry, including retailers, wholesalers, buying groups, manufacturers and sales reps. The group is currently led by NOPC Chair Ron Shaw, chair emeritus of Pilot Pen. Wayne Beacham, chair and chief executive officer of S.P. Richards Co., will take over the reigns as NOPC chair in September The campaign raises funds through industry fundraising events, product and in-store promotional activities, employee giving campaigns, foundations and personal giving clubs. Key fundraising events in 2009 include the Bob Parker Memorial Golf Outing at Pinehurst, the Honoree Golf Outing at Pebble Beach, the Howard Wolf Golf Classic and the Spirit of Life Gala. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Dr. Jack Truong, vice president of 3M. The 2010 Spirit of Life Gala will honor David Williamson, executive vice president and general manager OPG of MeadWestvaco. The National Professional Salon Industry, established in 1988, gathers industry leaders from throughout the professional salon industry. Led by current council chair Sara Jones, the National Professional Salon Industry raises funds for City of Hope through cause marketing, personal giving and its annual Spirit of Life Gala in Las Vegas during the Cosmoprof trade show. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala honored Cheryl and Jim Markham, founders of PureOlogy Serious Color Care. The 2010 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Eva Graham, president and founder of Nioxin. National Professional Salon Industry Northern California Food Industries Circle The Northern California Food Industries Circle (NCFIC), established in 1978, represents a unique commitment among the region s leading retailers, brokers, manufacturers and related vendors to support City of Hope s humanitarian efforts. Led by Henry Michon, senior vice president of Dairy, Refrigerated, and Frozen for Safeway, the NCFIC raises funds for City of Hope through cause marketing initiatives, annual events and a personal giving club. Key events include the annual Festival Ball, Taste of Hope, the Pink Ribbon Icon promotion and Marathon Training Program. The 2008 Spirit of Life award was presented to Cecil Russell, vice president of Strategic Development. The 2009 Festival Ball will honor Henry Michon with The Jim Vlamis Humanitarian Award.
8 CITY OF HOP Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance The Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance (REC), established in 1986, gathers members of the Bay Area s real estate, developer, construction, contractor and architecture communities. Led by Wally Naylor of Pankow Builders, the REC raises funds for City of Hope through their annual Spirit of Life Award dinner. The 2009 Spirit of Life event honored Michael Covarrubias, chair and chief executive officer of TMG Partners. The 2010 Spirit of Life event will honor Hamid Moghadam, chair and chief executive officer of AMB Property Corporation. Orange County Construction Industries Alliance The Orange County Construction Industries Alliance, established in 1974, originated with a group of 10 dedicated individuals and over the years has grown to include representatives from all areas of the homebuilding, construction and service industries from Orange County and surrounding areas. The group raises money for City of Hope through golf tournaments, Spirit of Life galas and other fundraising events. Their 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Parker S. Kennedy, chair and chief executive officer for The First American Corporation. Pacific Northwest Food Industries Circle The Pacific Northwest Food Industries Circle (PNWFIC), established in 1988, gathers food industry professionals representing retail, wholesale, manufacturing, brokers and related services in support of City of Hope. Led by council president Mike Ellis, president of Fred Meyer, the PNWFIC raises funds for City of Hope through a number of events, including golf tournaments, bowling tournaments and wine tastings. Key events include the golf tournament/auction in Oregon, the Darigold Golf tournament in Washington and the Harvest Celebration Ball, which culminates the campaign for the industry. The group also raises funds through a variety of cause related marketing campaigns. The 2009 Spirit of Life Gala will honor Al Reser, chair of board and chief executive officer of Reser s Fine Foods, and Terry Halverson, president and chief executive officer of Metropolitan Markets. Real Estate Action Committee for City of Hope The Real Estate Action Committee for City of Hope is an ancillary group to the Chicago Construction and Real Estate Council. Established in 1997, the committee gathers executives from commercial real estate, development and construction at the annual REACH Social event held at House of Blues, Chicago. Led by Lee Golub of Golub & Company and Rick DuPraw of Leopardo, the event showcases industry executives realizing their rock star fantasies and performing for a capacity crowd of 1,000+.
9 E S industry groups San Diego Construction Industries Alliance After years of continued support by the construction industry in San Diego, the Construction Industries Alliance regrouped in 2004 to create a new leadership board and revitalize The Spirit of Life Award among the construction industry and the San Diego community. Through their annual Spirit of Life Gala, the group has raised over $5 million for City of Hope, offering members of the construction industry and San Diego community a unique opportunity to unite in tribute to individuals committed to finding a cure for cancer. The 2008 Spirit of Life Gala honored Kent Aden, vice president of The Otay Ranch Company, and Captain Jim DiMatteo, U.S. Navy. Southern California Food Industries Circle The Southern California Food Industries Circle was established in 1973 by a small group led by Eugene Walsh, then chairman of the board of Ralph s Grocery Company. Over the years the circle s membership has grown to more than 1,500 retailers, suppliers, brokers, distributors and manufactures within the food industry. Led today by Tammy Brusseau of Albertsons Inc. (retired), the campaign continues to expand each year, incorporating a year-round calendar of activities such as Kids 4 Hope, Retail Ad Auction, Angels Fashion Show, FIC Monte Carlo, and a variety of successful golf tournaments all culminating each year with its anticipated Harvest Ball and Silent Auction. Southwest Food Industries Circle The Southwest Food Industries Circle, established in 1991, gathers representatives from the retail, manufacturing, wholesale and brokerage communities and its affiliates. Led by co-presidents Robert Clark of Fry s and Mark Miller of Hensley, the Southwest Food Industries Circle raises funds for City of Hope through employee giving programs, cause marketing, Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer and their annual Spirit of Hope events. The Spirit of Hope Golf Tournament and Celebration Beach Ball typically take place the second weekend in May and are festive and casual events that attract local, regional and national members of the food industry.
10 NILC National Industry Leadership Council overview City of Hope is evolving into the model cancer center for the 21st century. Consequently, the role of City of Hope leadership at every level has become critical in guiding us through an unprecedented period of growth and change during exceptionally challenging economic times. For over four decades, support groups organized around industry affiliations have embraced the mission of City of Hope. Currently, donations originating from industry members and events comprise over one-third of all funds generated to support research, treatment and capital expansion. The continued vitality of these groups is essential to City of Hope s future. The National Industry Leadership Council was established in response to the everchanging connections within and between industries, and to maintain the overall growth of the industry movement. mission The mission of the National Industry Leadership Council (NILC) is to unite and coordinate City of Hope s industry councils, to share best practices, to develop new opportunities and to set the course for the future of City of Hope s industry movement.

14 NILC members Council Chair Tim Clyde Group Vice President, Avery Dennison National Office Products Council Tim Clyde is group vice president of Avery Dennison Corporation s Specialty Materials and Converting group. He has served on various boards and committees for several local institutions including the United Way, Alexis de Tocqueville Society and Mercy House, a homeless transition and prevention center. Prior to joining City of Hope s NILC, Tim served on the National Office Products Council for a half dozen years, personally leading the rapid expansion of Avery Dennison s annual support to include a number of new innovative fundraising initiatives. Council Co-chairs John Case Executive in Residence, University of Iowa National Home Furnishing Industry John J. Case is an Executive in Residence at the Henry B. Tippie School of Business at the University of Iowa. He is also a senior consultant for Thinking Dimensions, a global consulting company that assists clients in resolving strategic and operational issues. As a past president of both La-Z-Boy Branded Products and Electrolux Home Care Products, John spent 11 years as a member of City of Hope s National Home Furnishings Council and continues to serve as an industry-representative-at-large. Paul Donahue President, U.S. Automotive Parts Group National Office Products Council Paul Donahue is president of U.S. Automotive Parts Group and has been an active supporter of City of Hope for nearly 20 years. He considers community service an individual responsibility, as well as good corporate citizenship, serving on a variety of ventures such as: the Boys and Girls Clubs, City of Hope, and UJA. Paul has served on numerous industry committees for City of Hope, including the National Office Products Committee and Spirit of Life Dinner Committee.
15 Members Nicholas Brereton President and Chief Executive Officer, breretonarchitects Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance Nick Brereton is the Founding Partner of breretonarchitects, an architectural and interiors firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Serving as a member of City of Hope s Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance (REC), he has developed a passionate support for City of Hope and its mission. Adam Burke Foodservice & Hospitality Industry A marketing professional with over 20 years experience, Adam Burke most recently served as senior vice president, Customer Loyalty for Hilton Hotels Corporation, including overseeing the Hilton HHonors guest rewards program. Adam is an active guest speaker at both industry and academic functions and is involved with a variety of charitable and community service organizations, including City of Hope, Business for Diplomatic Action and the Harlem School of the Arts. Adam has been involved with City of Hope s Foodservice and Hospitality Industry for over seven years. Michael Clark Senior Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer, True Value Company Hardware/Homebuilding Industry Michael Clark joined True Value Company as senior vice president and chief merchandising officer in May Outside of his role at True Value, Michael is active in a number of community and professional associations. Michael joined City of Hope s Hardware/Homebuilding Executive Council in 2007 and spearheaded a partnership between City of Hope and Orchard Supply Hardware, successfully hosting an annual golf tournament for nearly a decade, prior to joining the council. Bill Colegrove General Manager and CEO, Furniture Values International National Home Furnishing Industry As chief executive officer (CEO) and general manager, Bill Colegrove has led the transformation of aspenhome from a niche furniture manufacturer to a full-line, global furniture supplier. He has extensive involvement with various community service and charitable organizations throughout the country. Serving as a member of City of Hope s National Home Furnishings Industry for 4 years, Bill was honored this year with the industry s Spirit of Life award in 2009.

Courtney is senior vice president, National Accounts, Building Systems for USG. Kevin joined City of Hope s Hardware/Homebuilding Industry in In 2008, he helped establish The Midwest Golf Tournament, where major retailers convene for a day of golf and networking in support of City of Hope. Larry E. DeBoer Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Account Executive Practice Aon Risk Insurance Services West Inc. National Insurance Industry Council Larry DeBoer is executive vice president and managing director for Aon's Southern California Account Executive Practice. Larry has been involved with City of Hope for over 15 years and is a past chair of the California Insurance Council. Larry currently serves on the National Insurance Industry Council and chairs the Personal Gift Club committee. Reza Etedali CEO and Founder, REZA Investment Group Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council Reza Etedali is the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of one of the top retail investment sales brokerage firms in the nation, REZA Investment Group. Reza joined City of Hope s Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council in 2003 and has been an active supporter of City of Hope over the years. Jeffrey S. Harleston Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs, Universal Music Group Music and Entertainment Industry Group Jeffrey Harleston is senior vice president, Business and Legal Affairs for Universal Music Group. His charitable activities include membership on City of Hope s Music and Entertainment Industry Group Executive Committee; membership on the board of directors for the Rhythm & Blues Foundation; and a founder of the Universal/Motown Fund, an endowment providing financial aid for R&B recording artists from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
17 Members Sue Klug President, Albertson s Southern California Food Industries Circle Sue Klug is president of Supervalu s Southern California Division which includes about 300 supermarkets including Albertsons, Albertsons/Savon Pharmacy and Lucky Stores in Southern California and Southern Nevada. Sue has led several important efforts for City of Hope and has been involved with the City of Hope Food Industries Circle for many years. She is currently serving as the group s acting president. Peter Lofrumento Executive Vice President, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, Universal Music Group Music and Entertainment Industry Group Peter LoFrumento serves as the executive vice president, Corporate Communications and Public Relations for Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company with wholly owned record and publishing operations or licensees in 77 countries. Peter has been a member of City of Hope s Music and Entertainment Industry group for two years. Dick MacKnight General Manager, Northern California Division, Acosta Sales and Marketing Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance Since 2006, Dick MacKnight has served as Acosta Sales and Marketing s general manager for the Northern California and Salt Lake City markets. He has been an active board member of the Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance for City of Hope since 2000 and has been working on the group s cause related marketing programs and the Festival Ball. Bob McKee Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Food 4 Less Southern California Food Industries Circle Bob McKee is a senior vice president, Sales and Marketing for Food 4 Less. Bob has been a member of the Food Industries Circle for City of Hope for many years, serving on a variety of committees. Bob also served as the president of the Food Industries Circle for City of Hope, and has received City of Hope s Spirit of Life Award.
18 NILC members Members Alissa Pollack Senior Vice President, Music Initiatives, Premiere Radio Networks Music and Entertainment Industry Group Alissa Pollack is a senior vice president of Music Initiatives at Premiere Radio Networks, where she oversees Mediabase s music ventures within the U.S. and Canada. Alissa is proud to serve on City of Hope s Executive Board for the Music and Entertainment Industry Group. Brian Sena Vice President, Wells Fargo Insurance Services Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance Brian Sena has been with Wells Fargo Insurance Services since 2002, having joined after spending six years in the fields of property and casualty brokerage and benefits consulting. He is an active board member of the Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance for City of Hope. Gary Smolin Hardware/Homebuilding Industry Gary Smolin established his own business as a manufacturers' representative in 1980, which expanded to become Coyte Smolin & Associates in 1982 and Cosmo Store Services in Gary feels privileged to be a part of City of Hope's Executive Committee for the Hardware/Homebuilding Industry for over 15 years. During this time Gary has also served on the Legacy Committee, which raised funds for a research building now standing on the campus as well as the "Personal Gift Club" Committee. Deborah Steinberg Vice President of Business Development, The CIT Group Apparel Industries Group Deborah Steinberg is vice president of business development and a marketing officer for CIT/Commercial Services in the Western Region. She serves as an executive vice president and board member of the Fashion Industries Guild/Cedars Sinai Medical Center and the National Jewish Medical & Research Center. Debbie also serves as president of the Apparel Industries Group for City of Hope, a group she has been involved with for over 20 years.
19 Members Steve Stonehouse Regional President, CNA National Insurance Industry Council As regional president of CNA, Steve Stonehouse is responsible for the profitability and growth of CNA s Field Operations West. Steve is a board member of City of Hope s National Insurance Industry Council, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West. Steve has been a member of City of Hope s National Insurance Industry Council for eight years and is also a past president of the group. Jerry Sullivan Chair, Gerald J. Sullivan & Associates National Insurance Industry Council Jerry Sullivan is chair of Gerald J. Sullivan & Associates, the focus company for all members of The Sullivan Group. Jerry is the current president of City of Hope s National Insurance Industry Council and has been a member of the group for over 20 years. Mike Szkatulski Senior Managing Director, Mesirow Financial Real Estate Chicago Construction and Real Estate Council Mike Szkatulski is a seasoned real estate professional who is responsible for the coordination and management of Mesirow Financial Real Estate Inc.'s development and real estate consulting activities. Mike has been involved with City of Hope s Chicago Construction and Real Estate Council for many years. He currently serves as president of the council and was also the 2004 Spirit of Life Award recipient. Gary M. Tenzer Principal/Senior Director, George Smith Partners Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council Gary Tenzer is a co-founder of George Smith Partners. Over a career that has spanned more than three decades, Gary has arranged several billion dollars in debt and equity financing. Gary has been a member of City of Hope s Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Council for several years and has been an avid supporter of the institution during this time. Gary Wallner Vice President of Grocery and Marketing, Andronico s Market Northern California Food Industries Circle Gary Wallner was hired by Andronico s Market in 1989 as director of grocery buying and currently holds the position of vice president of Grocery and Marketing. Gary joined City of Hope s Northern California Food Industries Circle in 2001 and was awarded the group s rookie of the year award.
