3 BioGrAPhiES Prof. Frank Powell Consultant Dermatologist, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and the Charles Institute of Dermatology, UCD Prof. Frank Powell Prof. Frank Powell is a Consultant Dermatologist and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCD. He is a Past President of European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology He is a past President Irish Association of Dermatologists and Past President Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland (Dermatology section) He is an Honorary Member of the American, German, Italian and Austrian Societies of Dermatologists Prof. Powell has published 114 scientific articles in peer reviewed medical journals with more than 5,000 citations. Prof. William Power Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital and St. Vincent s University Hospital, Dublin Prof. William Power Prof. William Power was appointed assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School and Consultant Eye Surgeon in the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) in 1995 and appointed Chief of Ophthalmology, Brigham and Women s Hospital, Boston in He returned to Dublin in 1998 and has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist practicing laser eye surgery, cataract and corneal surgery for over twenty years. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland (MRCPI, Fellow of the Royal College Surgeons, Glasgow (FRCSGlasg) and Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). Professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, International Society of Refractive Surgeons, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Irish College of Ophthalmologists. William is a past President of the Irish College of Ophthalmologists and the National Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology. 3
4 BioGrAPhiES Ms. Aoife doyle Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital and St Jame s Hospital, Dublin Ms. Aoife Doyle Ms. Aoife Doyle graduated from UCD in She gained her Masters of Medical Science (Physiology) in 1996, FRCOphth 1999 and FEBO She underwent Fellowship training at The Glaucoma Institute, Foundation Hospital St Joseph, Paris from She has held the position of Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital and St. James s Hospital since She is a Glaucoma Specialist at Royal Victoria Eye and Ear relating to all forms of glaucoma laser and surgery, including trabeculectomy, non-penetrating surgery, Baerveldt tubes and Ahmed valves. She was appointed Medical Director of the Hospital from Her research interests are in glaucoma filtration surgery and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). Ms Doyle is a member of the Ordre des Médecins (France), the Irish College of Ophthalmologists and UK Eire Glaucoma Society Membership. She is a Fellow of Royal College of Ophthalmologists and European Board of Ophthalmology. niall Sinnott HSE Assistant National Director, IT Delivery Director for Primary Care Niall Sinnott Niall Sinnott is a member of the Senior Management Team of the Office of the CIO (OoCIO) and a member of the Senior Management Team of the Primary Care Division within the Health Service Executive (HSE) in Ireland. In his current role as IT Delivery Director for Primary Care, Niall is responsible for the delivery of all HSE funded IT initiatives for Primary Care in Ireland. He is responsible for the relationship between the OoCIO and the Primary Care Division and for translating the strategic and operational objectives of the Primary Care Division into programmes and services that the OoCIO can deliver. In his role, Niall has driven the deployment ereferrals to all hospitals in Ireland and to all GPs nationally and for guiding our first tentative steps into the area of eprescribing for Primary Care. 4
5 BioGrAPhiES With 13 years experience in the Health Service, Niall has worked on the implementation of enterprise wide corporate systems, spent 5 years running the National IT Programme Office which has a portfolio of over 200 capital projects worth 55 million per annum. He has worked closely with the Irish College of GP s and their GPIT Committee to promote development of practice management systems in Primary Care. Prior to joining the Health Service Niall spent 20 years working in the Aerospace and Automotive industry. An engineer by profession, Niall has worked for multinationals in the UK, US and Germany. Niall has experience of working on large scale Manufacturing Systems, Supply Chain Management and ERP Systems. Niall is a certified PMI, APM and Prince2 practitioner and has delivered numerous high value complex projects as a Programme Manager and Commercial Director. Gregory Johnston HSE Programme Lead for E-Referrals Gregory Johnston A graduate in Computer Sciences and Health Informatics, Gregory Johnston is an experienced IT Director and Digital Solutions Leader with specialist interest in ehealth innovations. Gregory has a significant width of industry experience across Healthcare, Pharmaceutical (Clinical Trial Management Systems), Financial, Retail, Construction, Agriculture and Telecoms. In his current role as Programme Manager for Digital Health at the Health Service Executive, Gregory is responsible for the delivery of the national rollout of the Electronic General Referral solution to all public funded hospitals. His responsibilities in the role include; lead authorship on the Waiting List Challenge The Digital Response (2016/17); design team member for Ireland's first patient portal; data analyst for the delivery of the health identifiers data solution; project lead for big data analysis of health identifiers information; project lead for service directory and MedLIS (GP ordering solution). 5
6 BioGrAPhiES Gerry Kelliher Business Intelligence, National Clinical Programme in Surgery, RCSI Gerry is a self-motivated ethical business leader who blends strategic thought leader ship with operational execution and excellence. Gerry Kelliher Currently Gerry is providing business change enablement support to the National Clinical Programme in Surgery (NCPS) by deploying objective decision making methods and lean principals to senior management in hospitals, hospitals groups and units within the acute hospital directorate. Prior to leaving EDS, Gerry was the Chief Information & Technical Officer for the EDS s EMEA retail, manufacturing, transport and justice delivery units which delivered over $500 million of business transformation, consulting and ICT enablement solutions to EDS customers in government & commercial sectors annually. As CIO/CTO, he participated in strategic business planning of the unit; identifying and managing the delivery of specific initiatives required to support the business plan. Operationally, he had specific responsibility for effectiveness of all solutions delivered, information & communication technology plan delivery, engineering capability development, knowledge management and technical direction with in the unit. Gerry has over twenty five years experience in all phases of IT systems delivery and ongoing support in the government, manufacturing, finance & logistics sectors, including strategic business & systems architecture consulting, organisational management & technical leadership, project management, business analysis, software development and ongoing systems / application support. 6
7 MontGoMEry LECtUrE 2017 Prof. Michael o Keeffe Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Newman Clinical Professor of Paediatric Ophthalmology, UCD 2017 Montgomery Lecture the Evolution of Paediatric Cataract Surgery Prof. Michael O Keeffe Prof. Michael O Keefe is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Mater Private Hospital and The Beacon Hospital in Dublin. He was formerly a consultant in the Children s University Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital Dublin. He is still a consultant at the Rotunda Hospital and the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin. Prof. O Keeffe is the Newman Clinical Professor of Paediatric Ophthalmology at University College Dublin. His special interests include congenital cataract, ROP and Refractive Surgery. He is a book and chapter editor and has published over one hundred and fifty peer review papers. Prof. O Keeffe reviews articles for six international peer review journals. He was awarded the Claud Worth Medal for his contribution to Paediatric Ophthalmology in 2004 by the British Child Health Foundation. In 2008 he was awarded the Eustace Medal for his research and contribution to Ophthalmology. 7
