1 Verandas Beach House 401 Rosecrans Avenue, Manhattan Beach CA :15 AM Aquaviable Dan Quisenberry introduced his business partner, Rodney Lore together they run the business called Aquaviable. The Colorado River, Owens Valley and State Water Project are cautionary tales as to the cost and damage done by water delivery systems our water now comes from as far away as Wyoming. Rodney told us, Whiskey s for drinking, water s for fighting, and also quoted Barry Goldwater, telling us that westerners will fight over water, women and gold in that order. Bottled water is not all that pure and is the product of a wasteful process. Businesses like Aquaviable pull pure water out of the air (this works near the ocean; not so much in the desert). Aquaviable s office machine creates 5 gallons a day, and work is being done to create a 300 gallon per day machine, and present technology exists to get up to 900 gallons per day. These machines also filter their water for added purity. The associated electricity cost is 17 cents per gallon. 10% of their profits go to water projects. Aquaviable currently operates out of Santa Barbara, where Rodney is, and Manhattan Beach, where Dan is. His last day will be Dec. 22. In a statement, Mayor David Lesser praised Espinosa as an integral part of our community through his involvement with the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team (MBCERT), the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club, and Leadership Manhattan Beach, as well as providing a heightened focus on disaster preparedness. Bob will be greatly missed, Lesser said. Page 3

4 The Nature Of Love - It was Monday, October 23, 2017,, and President Mark Burton received the podium from Constable John Osten and turned it over to Dave Peters, who read from a treatise on the nature of love, telling us that giving and receiving give us hope and a desire to live in troubled times Tom Zimmerman s guest was his daughter Ruby..Ed Kushins shared a letter of gratitude for his and our work with Working Wardrobes Ken Deemer promoted the November 7 District Breakfast honoring veterans..david Gendron in turn promoted the upcoming Skecher s Walk and our club goal to raise $2000; he is also seeking more volunteers for the Richstone Kaboom event, building a playground. Puerto Rico Our club, led by James Kennedy, has been focused on the disaster in Puerto Rico, where Cedric Tuck- Sherman has family. Ingo Werk, Bob Lanahan, and Deb Robertson (with her husband Tom Chwalek) have also pitched in. We have so far sent a generator and a water purifier. We are organizing a joint effort with other Manhattan Beach service clubs. And Jay Harkenrider has set up a separate fund for contributions to the effort. TedX Jan Rhees introduced leaders of TedX Manhattan Beach (one of the 3 oldest chapters in the world). The banner upcoming event is December 4, with the theme Anything Is Possible. TedX Manhattan Beach is working with numerous entities, including the Chamber of Commerce, the City, the School District, MBEF, LMB, and businesses such as Chevron. They would love to see Rotary involved. The Prosecutor In The House The Prosecutor Was In The House. Four club members summited Baldy, but only James Kennedy wore any Rotary insignia (a polio bracelet). Several club members assisted at Vision to Learn, but only Ken Deemer failed to wear any Rotary insignia. Sanctions were levied in accordance with these sins of omission. Solar James Kennedy briefed us on the solar industry, in which he serves as an independent energy consultant, helping people go green and save money. California leads the nation in solar, and Manhattan Beach is one of the state leaders. Technology has accelerated and costs have plummeted one can break even in 5-8 years. You can pay zero down and make payments that are lower than your current energy costs. Real estate appraisers are now adding value for solar. SCE meanwhile is raising rates. Solar creates jobs and adds to U.S. energy security. James hopes the EPA will not reverse tax credits for solar installation. Hometown Fair Update - Tim Hageman reported that our Mira Costa Interact members raised over $1,200 at the MB Hometown Fair! Wow! Dr. Chris spent a great deal of his time assisting our Interact members. Thank you Dr. Chris. David Gendron reported on an exciting new opportunity to support Richstone: KaBoom at Richstone! Richstone is seeking volunteers to help build a playground at the Richstone Family Center on Wednesday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..
