1 UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE Lecturer in Discipline Columbia University, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) 2007 present Nonprofit Management & Finance: Designed and teach three (3) sections of 50+ students each of course in the core curriculum on public sector finance. Course includes introduction to Financial Statements, Financial Statement & Ratio Analysis, Operating and Program Budgeting, Capital Budgeting, Cost Benefit Analysis and Performance Measurement and Social Impact. Creating a Social Enterprise: Designed and teach a course to budding social entrepreneurs on how to design, develop, pitch and launch a new enterprise aimed at solving a global social problem. Course is divided into three parts: Design Thinking, Business Planning and Pitching. Students build viable business models that they then present to potential investors. Roughly a third of all students in the class want to launch the venture post-graduation (others take it for the experience). Director, Management Specialization present Columbia University, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) Appointed as Director of the Management Specialization in Fall The program serves 360 students. Responsibilities include new course development, faculty search, development of activities and workshops for students as well as connections to internships and career information. Currently developing a concept and funding proposal to expand program offerings in Social Entrepreneurship which will include increasing core activities in Design Thinking, Data and Data Analysis, Program Evaluation, Social Impact Measurement. Serve as liaison to Columbia President Lee Bollinger s Office on campus-wide Entrepreneurship efforts. Program Director, Ed SIPA Present Center for Development Economics & Policy, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) Oversee development and implementation of multi-year program focused on global education technology (Ed Tech) and its impact on K-12 teaching and learning. Program elements include research on Ed Tech globally with a focus on private and philanthropic investment in Ed Tech; a 6 month education challenge where teams of students from across campus compete for a $25,000 prize for innovative new solutions to deeply entrenched problems in education. Ed SIPA is a partnership with the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia Entrepreneurship, the Nasdaq Educational Foundation, Fundação Lemann, and the Unicef Office of Global Innovation. Published Research Innovative Partnership for Public Health: An Evaluation of the New York City Green Cart Initiative to Expand Access to Healthy Produce in Low-Income Neighborhoods Ester R. Fuchs and Sarah M. Holloway Columbia University, June 2014 Funded by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund The NYC Green Cart initiative is a street-vending strategy that aims to change the NYC food landscape, expand economic opportunity, and promote healthy behavior by increasing the availability of fresh produce in areas where access is limited. The initiative was introduced in 2008 by the Mayor s Office of Food Policy and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Green Carts is part of a

2 broader City strategy to confront the epidemic levels of diet-related disease in New York City s low-income communities. About the Study: In mid-2013, the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund engaged faculty at Columbia SIPA to independently analyze the effectiveness of Green Carts in improving access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income New Yorkers; assess the economic viability of Green Carts as small businesses; and consider the role of philanthropy in promoting and supporting innovative public policy. Led by Professors Fuchs and Holloway, the research team developed a conceptual model and research plan to determine whether Green Carts was meeting its goals. The research team developed its own evaluation model and research design and collected extensive primary data on neighborhood characteristics, vendor locations and business practices, and customer behavior. An 11-person team of students spent three months locating and interviewing Green Carts vendors (July-September 2013). Interviews were conducted in English, Spanish, and Bengali. A sample of customers was interviewed in November The customer sample survey was designed to capture any differences among Green Cart customers based on location in the core or periphery of the designated areas. Elite interviews were also conducted with key stakeholders. OUTSIDE PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES January Present Civic Hall, Senior Advisor on Civic Union Square s Strategic Plan and Capital Campaign Civic Hall is a community space, incubator and technology research & development nonprofit that brings together not for profit leaders, government staff, community organizers, policy makers, philanthropists, civic entrepreneurs, developers, data scientists, journalists and academics to work on solving pressing civic problems with technology. Founded in February 2015, Civic Hall has rapidly grown into a thriving and diverse community with over 1,000 members and 100 member organizations including many top government offices (NY Attorney General s Office, the NYC Mayor s Office of Technology & Innovation, and the Manhattan District Attorney s office), tech companies like Microsoft and Google; media leaders like Bloomberg and Consumer Reports; civic tech leaders like Code for America; academic institutions and foundations including Columbia University, the Ford Foundation, The Robin Hood Foundation and Omidyar Network. Civic Hall will be opening a new, 80,000 square foot Civic Hall on 14th Street (Civic Union Square) that will become NYC s center for civic tech and technology workforce development and technology education. A cornerstone of Civic Union Square will be a 40,000 square foot Digital Skills Learning Center that will be open to all New Yorkers -- students, teachers, immigrants, people with physical and legal barriers, and the elderly. July Present The NYC Foundation for Computer Science Education (CSNYC.org), Co-Founder and Vice Chair CSNYC was founded by Fred Wilson, technology Venture Capitalist (avc.com), Evan Korth, Professor of Computer Science at NYU and Sarah Holloway, serial nonprofit entrepreneur and member of the faculty at Columbia University. The Foundation s mission is to make computer science education available to all students by serving as a bridge between the public sector, private philanthropy and private local industry. The Foundation has partnered with the Mayor s Office, the NYC Department of Education, The Robin Hood

3 Foundation, Code.org and the NYC Partnership to bring computer science education to NYC s 1.1 million public school students via an $80 million, 10-year initiative. One of the Foundation s strategic priorities is to conduct research that promotes the growth and success of computer science education. As such, the Foundation conducts program evaluations and large-scale research initiatives with two long-term goals: 1) to determine the efficacy of these programs and 2) to evaluate whether computer science education offers a pathway out of poverty. My Role: Vice Chair and Co-Founder, Leading Capital Campaign to raise $40 million on private dollars. Fall 2015 Global Cities Global Cities is a program of Bloomberg Philanthropies. Helped Global Cities define and design an educational conference on Global Digital Exchange Programs (May 2016). Consulting work included outreach to 20+ school districts across the United States. ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES Nonprofits and Social Enterprises Initiatives Co-Founded and Founded The NYC Foundation for Computer Science Education (CSNYC) Co-Founder and Vice Chair 2013-Present MOUSE.org Founding Executive Director MOUSE empowers underserved youth to learn, lead and create with technology, preparing them with skills essential for their academic and career success. Exploring the Arts Tony and Susan Bennett s nonprofit arts organization that provides funding for performing arts programming in New York City public schools LIFT Investments A social business that invests capital in SMEs in developing countries and uses the investment return to pay for higher education for the businesses lowest paid workers. Program is launching in Rwanda and Kenya in SciPlay Now a program of the New York Hall of Science, SciPlay was a project of the philanthropist Sara Lee. Provided business planning, project and budget development expertise to launch this new project. In lieu of starting a new organization, facilitated the acquisition of the project by the New York Hall of Science. Madison Strategies A nonprofit workforce organization focused on providing employer-driven workforce training and placement services to population coming out of prison system. Start up funding sources include the NYC Department of Corrections and the Robin Hood Foundation.

4 OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 2003 Present Management Consultant Founder and Partner in boutique management consultancy focused on providing growth, fund-raising, operations and financial management strategies for start up, social enterprises, philanthropies, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Business partners have included technology venture capitalist, Jerry Colonna, and former Citibank Foundation President, Charles Raymond Executive Director, MOUSE Inc. Co-founded and ran innovative nonprofit organization that is now in hundreds of schools across New York s public school system, in five other states and in 50 countries through a partnership with Microsoft. Founded in 1997, MOUSE programs are having a positive and lasting impact on over 4,200 students in 377 sites, including in New York, California, Illinois and Texas. Since 2000, more than 23,000 students have participated in MOUSE programs, providing valued technical support and leadership for more than 1.8 million students, teachers and administrators in their schools and communities. MOUSE provides a unique opportunity to empower youth with essential skills, prepare them for college and career, and inspire the next generation of leaders in technology and innovation. Primary responsibilities included providing the overall vision for the organization, board cultivation and development, strategic planning, budgeting and financial management, developing relationships with New York City's philanthropic, civic and professional communities as well as managing the successful design and implementation of programs. Established relationships with private and public sector to raise startup and ongoing funding for programs and operations.
