1 EVENT INFORMATION: The Women in Pharma group of the Boston Area Chapter of ISPE is proud to offer this Bridging the Gap in Gender Diversity event with MassBio. Show Me the Numbers on Gender Diversity in the Life Sciences in Massachusetts MassBio partnered with Liftstream to develop a comprehensive study examining the cause behind the lack of gender diversity within the Massachusetts life sciences sector. The summary report, the most extensive of its kind, explores the experiences, motivations, and actions of both companies and employees to evaluate why gender gaps exist at every level of an organization, and offers a set of recommendations to improve gender diversity and inclusion. The MassBio gender diversity report can be found: Elizabeth Steele, Vice President of Programs and Global Affairs at MassBio, will present the key findings of the gender diversity study and the associated recommend positive actions to improve gender diversity in the Life Sciences Industry. Panel Discussion After Elizabeth presents the findings and recommended positive actions for gender diversity there will be a panel discussion to include both HR professionals and other Life Science leaders passionate about gender diversity. 1

2 WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This discussion on the current state and positive actions for gender diversity would be valuable for all levels of leaders from all functions in the Life Sciences sector. The Women in Pharma group of the Boston Area Chapter of ISPE is particularly focused on women in technical roles in manufacturing and engineering which are areas with historically larger than typical gender diversity gaps compared to other functions in the Life Sciences sector. SPEAKERS/PANELISTS: Elizabeth Steele, Vice President of Programs and Global Affairs at MassBio Elizabeth is the Vice President of Programs and Global Affairs at MassBio. She oversees all aspects of signature events, economic development including authoring the annual Industry Snapshot report, and global affairs for the organization where she meets and presents to foreign dignitaries and delegations, having met with 30 groups from 20 countries in 2017 alone. Elizabeth is a formal trade official for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where she attracted foreign direct investment and organized multiple trade missions around the world. Mary-Lynn Fulton, Head of Study Management at Vertex Pharmaceuticals & Co-chair of Vertex s IWILL (Inspiring Women in Leadership and Learning) Mary-Lynn Fulton has more than 25 years of experience in clinical trials operations/management in the biopharmaceutical industry. She joined Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. in January 2016 as the Head of Study Management (Clinical Operations). Prior to this, Ms. Fulton had a 23 year career at PAREXEL (global Contract Research Organization) in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in the role of Head of Clinical Operations for the Americas region, where she was the responsible for 1400 employees located throughout North and South America. At Vertex, Mary-Lynn is proud to serve as the co-chair of the women in leadership employee resource network (IWILL). Jorg Thommes, Head of CMC at Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute Dr. rer. nat Jorg Thommes is the Head of CMC at the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute in Cambridge, MA. The Institute is a non-profit biotech organization and our mission is to develop products to fight malaria, tuberculosis, and diarrheal diseases three major causes of mortality, poverty, and inequality in developing countries. The Institute s CMC group is responsible for physical product development, manufacturing, and distribution across the entire portfolio. Prior to joining the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute, Dr. Thommes was the Senior Vice President Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology at Visterra. Prior to the role at Visterra, Dr. Thommes was at Biogen, Inc., where he served among other positions as Senior Vice President, Engineering and Technology, and his responsibilities included process development for all therapeutic modalities, global and site engineering, and manufacturing sciences. 2

3 Lauren Celano, Founder and CEO, Propel Careers Lauren is the Co-founder and CEO of Propel Careers, a life science search and career development firm focused on connecting talented individuals with entrepreneurial innovative life sciences companies. Lauren co-founded Propel Careers in 2009 and since then, has worked with thousands of students, postdocs, medical residents and professionals to help advance their careers. Before Propel, she spent about 10 years in the life sciences industry working with companies to advance drug molecules through SNBL USA, Aptuit, Quintiles, and Absorption Systems. Lauren is on the Board of MassBioEd, the Advisory Board of the Boston University School of Public Health Pharmaceuticals Program, and the Advisory board for Endicott College Boston. Katie Shannon (Event Facilitator), Senior Director of Global Engineering at Brammer Bio Katie has over 16 years of biopharmaceutical engineering experience in roles spanning new facility construction through commercial manufacturing support. As the Senior Director of Global Engineering, she is responsible for capital portfolio management and project execution, global engineering/cqv standards and best practices, asset management, real estate, and site services. Prior to joining Brammer Bio, she was a process engineering and automation manager at Biogen and a process engineer supporting capital and operational programs at Sanofi Pasteur. Katie is an active member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE) Women in Pharma Boston Chapter.
