1 WILLIAM G. HUTCHISON, F.C.I.P.S., P.Eng. Bill Hutchison is a business and social entrepreneur, corporate director and international management consultant. He has been Global Chairman, Telecom Industry for Ernst & Young, founder of four successful business start-ups and CEO of three corporate turnarounds. As a social entrepreneur he has been the founding chair or founding director of ten industry and social consortia and charitable foundations. BUSINESS OVERVIEW 1997 Present Hutchison Management International Working as a global advisor and hands-on executive in the revitalization of communities and in the provision of advisory and investment services to globally dispersed firms and governments including the following: Intelligent Community Initiatives: Waterfront Toronto: Directing the creation of one of the world s leading Intelligent Communities as a major cornerstone in Waterfront Toronto s $30 billion revitalization of Toronto s Central Waterfront. The first phase is the design and implementation of one of the world s most advanced open access ultra broadband infrastructures and the creation of a collaborative research and business incubation centre. Hong Kong CyberPort: Advised the Hong Kong government on the creation of CyberPort at the west end of Hong Kong Island. In 2005 CyberPort received the Global Intelligent Real Estate Development of the Year Award from the Intelligent Community Forum in New York. Malaysia s Multi Media Super Corridor, MSC : This was the largest Asian infrastructure project in the late 90s and early 2000s. Established the first American owned Technology and Telecommunications Centre in the MSC and provided advice and consulting services to MSC management on new communications infrastructures and new payment systems. SMART Toronto: Founding Vice Chair. This consortium focused on increasing the community collaboration and joint planning between ICT firms and those in social areas of health care, education, the arts and entertainment. Corporate Clients: Hutchison Wampoa, Hong Kong: Developed a series of e-business strategies for one of the world s largest conglomerates. Created the business plan and provided the interim executive team for a new company, Tom.com that Page 1

2 ultimately became one of the China s major web services firms. China Netcom, Beijing: Directed the team that won the contract to become global auditor and management consultant of record in preparation for dual public listings in Hong Kong and New York financial markets. CGI Inc: Directed the design and implementation of new strategic client management processes. Results included a quadrupling of revenues in two years with five strategic clients. Processes have subsequently been rolled out to other key accounts. Balaton Group Inc. Provided strategic advice for investment decisions and restructuring strategies for Balaton s investee companies. Arthur Andersen (Americas): Served as the Global Director, Technology Industry to expand Andersen s global presence in the high tech industry. Global business grew 30% in 18 months. Arthur Anderson (Asia Pacific): Three year contract to serve as Area Director, Asia/Pacific, Technology and Communications and Global Director, E-Business Strategy. Andersen was building a new management consulting business following the departure of Andersen Consulting who became Accenture. Total Asia Pacific business trebled over three years Ernst & Young, Senior Partner, (Retired) Global Chairman, Telecommunications Industry National Director, Information, Communications and Entertainment Industries, (I/C/E) National Director, Telecommunications Industry In three years, E&Y grew to be a major player in the ICE industries. The firm also grew from doing no business with Bell Canada to ultimately become its largest consulting partner. Directed major restructuring initiatives at Bell as it managed its transformation to new products and services National Managing Partner, Information Technology Services; responsible for directing the growth of E & Y into one of Canada s largest IT integration and services firms. E & Y had been ranked 30 th nationally and rose to 2 nd place in three years as confirmed by independent research William G. Hutchison and Co. Ltd, President (Sold to Ernst & Young) Government of Canada: Various contracts to 1) Assess national science policy with the Science Council of Canada, 2) Lead a 2.5 year planning initiative resulting in the creation of CANARIE Inc, Canada s national terabit per second Internet backbone for research and education, 3) Establish commercialization initiatives for moving promising research initiatives into the commercial market, 4) Assess policies and Page 2

Corporate Clients: Bell Canada, various contracts to assess and specify products and services; Harlequin Publishing Inc, contracts to assess IT operations resulting in appointment as Interim CIO to restructure the IT organization and hire new IT management; Infomart, contract to serve as Chairman and Interim CEO to restructure one of North America s leading electronic publishing firms; Torstar Corp, various contracts over ten years to provide advice, direction and project management services for all IT and telecommunications activities in this large newspaper, book publishing and new media conglomerate Consolidated Computer Inc: Canada s first Canadian owned computer systems manufacturing firm. It grew to over 1000 employees and won Canada s largest ever electronics export orders with Fujitsu in Japan and ICL in Europe President and CEO 1971 Executive Vice President Vice President, International Honeywell Information Systems, Regional Director, Central Canada Various branch management and sales management appointments BUSINESS AND SOCIAL COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES 2004 Present. KINSA: Kids Internet Safety Alliance: Co-Founder and Board Chair KINSA was created to combat the rapidly growing problem of pedophiles luring young children through the Internet. With much still to be done, KINSA has become nationally recognized as one of Canada s leading organizations dedicated to Internet Safety for children and young people. Its international reputation is expanding as a result of its Canadian based training programs for police and prosecutors around the world Present. Founding Chair, i-waterfront Advisory Council and Executive Director, Intelligent Communities The Council is comprised of 36 leaders in education, the arts and creative communities, business, healthcare, government services and the ICT industry. Its purpose is to be a community of stakeholders and advisors in support of Waterfront Toronto s creation of one of the world s leading Intelligent Communities as part of the revitalization of Toronto s Central Waterfront. The role as Executive Director, Intelligent Communities is to lead the creation of one of the world s leading Intelligent Communities as part of Waterfront Toronto s $30 billion revitalization of Toronto s Waterfront and the creation of a 21 st century City of the Future. 4 SMART Toronto Inc: Founding Vice Chair, ; Honorary Director, Industry leaders from the technology, arts, media, education and health care communities joined SMART Toronto to develop Toronto's position as a leading global SMART city CommerceNet Canada Founding Director, This research organization was created to position Canada as a leader in E-Commerce, by facilitating research projects that would eliminate problems with doing E-Commerce on the Internet. It was the first international affiliate of CommerceNet USA and is now part of a global network of CommerceNets The Canadian Information Productivity Awards, Founding Chairman The idea behind CIPA was to create Oscar Night in Canada to celebrate Canadian success in the productive application of Information Technology. Featuring an annual nomination and research process capped by an annual awards banquet attended by 1,000 industry leaders, CIPA nationally recognizes those executives and organizations who have created Canada's most productive information systems Canadian Network for the Advancement of Research, Industry and Education: (CANARIE) , Chairman, Steering Committee , Founding Chairman, CANARIE Inc , Director Appointed by the Canadian Government to lead the planning and develop a national consensus among leaders from universities, scientific research institutions and government on the strategy for a nation-wide high speed communications infrastructure for Canada s research and education community. A strategy and a business plan were developed that led to CANARIE S incorporation as a not-for-profit corporation with a billion dollar investment for the period from 1993 through The CANARIE program has subsequently been extended with new investment and CANARIE is now recognized as one of the world s most advanced national research and education communications infrastructures National Advisory Board for Science and Technology, NABST : Vice Chairman, 1987; Member, , Subsequent to a national lobby campaign to move science and technology to centre stage in Canada the Canadian Prime Minister created and chaired NABST, Canada's senior public-private science and technology council.
