He qualified in 1983 in Hong Kong. He has retired from full legal time practice although remaining as a consultant in the firm of Michael Cheuk, Wong & Kee. 2 Dispute Experience Legal Mathew is a graduate of the LLB (1980) and PCLL (1981) programmes of the University of Hong Kong. He is a member of the Hong Kong Law Society and the Law Society of England and Wales. Mathew was trained in the law firm of Messrs. Woo, Kwan, Lee & Lo becoming a partner in During his time there, he had acquired experience in civil and criminal litigation, conveyancing, corporate and commercial practice, divorce & separation, estate administration, intellectual insurance, property redevelopment and wills. From 1990 to 1992, he was part of the in-house counsel team at Hutchison Telecommunications Ltd where he acquired experience in telecommunications investment and operations, international corporate structure and practice, and in-house legal practice. From 1992, he was a partner the law firm of Messrs. Michael Cheuk, Wong & Kee from which he had retired as a partner in 2000 and became its consultant since then. There he accumulated legal experience in commercial banking and finance, listed company law and practice, legal professional practice and negligence, business and commercial law, hospitality investment & operations, international logistics and supply operations and management and HK taxation. He is the honorary legal advisor of the Hong Kong Boys' and Girls' Association, a leading charity and N.G.O. in HK providing social services to and advocacy for children, youths and families in Hong Kong. In the BGCA, he further acquired experience in social work and services, NGO and charity structuring and management and real estate re-development. Mediation (General & Family) and Parenting Coordination From 2005 onwards, Mathew has completed various mediation and parent coordination courses organized by the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution of UK, the Accord Group of Australia, the Law Academy of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society and the Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council. He was an accredited family mediator of the Mediation Council of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre since He is accredited by CEDR as a general mediator in Mathew is an accredited general and family mediator of the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited from In 2012, he presented on the topic of mediation in a Mediation & Negotiations and Conflict Resolution & Mediation course at the University of Hong Kong. Since 2010, he has coached and given presentations in general, peer, workplace and family mediation courses organized by the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Shu Yan University, the Office of Ombudsman, Hong Kong and the Hang Seng Bank Limited. 2

3 Commercial & Business Mathew was a project manager at a Hong Kong listed company in the business of commercial properties, golf courses, gaming, marina and hotel development, investment and management. He was a liaison officer of the Hong Kong Gibraltar Information Bureau of the Government of Gibraltar. He had been a hotel business consultant for owners in Guam. He is a supervisor of a Taiwan OTC listed international logistics company. Community, Public Sector & Psychotherapy In 2009, Mathew completed a non-credit course in Foundations of Positive Psychology organized by the University of Pennsylvania where he acquired basic knowledge and experience in positive psychology. In 2010, he completed certificate course in family therapy at the Family Institute of the University of Hong Kong as his 1st contact into psychotherapy in the context of the interpersonal and systems thinking. He further this knowledge with the addition of practicum experience by attending a Master's degree in family therapy (MASW(FCP & FT)) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He graduated in 2015 and is undergoing further training as a family therapist and counsellor. In 2012, as a member of the Asian Academy of Family Therapy, he co-authored the Academy's response to the Law Reform Commission of HK's 2005 Consultation Paper on Child Custody and Access. He remains a member of the Academy. In 2015, he started participating in the organisation and setting up of the Hong Kong Marriage and Family Therapy Association for the promotion and advocacy of relationship and family therapy and collaboration amongst family therapists in Hong Kong. Currently he serves as a volunteer family therapist at a primary school in Yuen Long contributing his family therapy knowledge and experience to students, parents and teachers. Mathew serves the community as a member of the Executive Committee, Estate Administration Subcommittee, various ad-hoc committees and as an honorary legal advisor of the Hong Kong Boys' and Girls' Association (since 1990). He also serves as a volunteer family mediator in the mediation centre of the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society (since 2010) and as a legal advisor in its telephone legal consultation on divorce service (since 2012). He has fulfilled his civic and public sector duties by serving on various statutory appeal panels including the Appeal Tribunal Panel (Buildings) as chairman ( ), the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel as chairman and member ( ), The Appeal Panel (Housing) as member ( ), the Board of Review (Inland Revenue Ordinance) as member and deputy chairman ( ) and the Fishermen Claims Appeal Board as member ( ). In 2012, the Home Affairs Bureau recognized his provision of pro bono legal services by awarding him a certificate of 3

He contributed to the legal profession by serving on the Law Society's past committees on limited liability practice of solicitors and in the operations of the Law Society Clubhouse in the 1990's. In the 1980's, he served as a voluntary lawyer in the free Legal Advice Scheme provided at District Offices under the Home Affairs Department. During that time, he also served as a duty lawyer under the Duty Lawyer Scheme in Magistrate Courts and Juvenile Courts. Personal Style Mathew adopts a facilitative mediation model using a problem solving approach. He believes in empowering parties to effectively communicate with each other to resolve disputes. Mathew is responsible for facilitating an open and effective communications process while putting the responsibility on the parties to take charge of the content and outcome of the mediation. Mathew will focus on current emotions, substantive and relationship interests. He believes that people act in accordance with their self-concept influenced by experience of others and are capable of assuming responsibility for themselves. Mathew will assist and challenge parties to become more self-directed, adopt wider perspectives and encourage decision making according to interests.
