All people with hands up can enter the janken game winner can answer the question. Correct answer gets to throw the dice. Write the dice number as their score on the board. CONDITIONS - IMPORTANT o First hand up starts the countdown from 5 to 0. All the hands up then junken. Winner answers the question. o POINTS BY THROWING DICE Give out worksheet Fill in clouds o As an example fill in Mary s clouds see the conversation and paragraph sheet. Just directly transfer the answers from the sheet to the board. o Mention Stay at home and alone. Write a paragraph o As an example write Mary s paragraph on the board. o WRITE - replace I for THEY Listen and write memos of friend s weekend then write a paragraph. o (PROBABLY NO TIME).

4 Grade 2 Lesson #3 Grammar and Vocabulary: What will you do this week end? Functional Aims: Paragraph Writing 2 To write about plans. Materials: (1 per student); Introductory Sheet: John and Mary (1 per student). Time Activity Materials Preliminary *Give out Introductory Strip. OPTIONAL fold the sheet so students cannot see the conversation. That is, they can only see the clouds. *Introduce questions and answers in the clouds. *Teacher reads the conversation and students circle correct phrases allow discussions with neighbours. This is a learning experience not a test. *Go through the answers. *Then fill in the blanks. Teacher reads the conversation again and students fill in blanks. Alternatively, teacher writes the correct phrases on the board and the students copy. I usually use the latter less time consuming. *Read the paragraph check for understanding. 10 Present Activity: Pre-writing/brainstorming ideas. Goal: Pre-writing jot ideas about your next weekend. Method: *Hand out worksheet. *On the worksheet, in the bubble talk area jot down ideas. Demonstration: Draw the bubble areas on the board similar to worksheet style. Teacher writes ideas in those areas. For example: *Topic city center, beach, school, stay home, with friends, with team mates, with family, Saturday, Sunday, Saturday and Sunday *What shop, swim, play tennis, watch TV, play computer games *How long all afternoon, 3 hours, all day *What time 1 o clock, 1.30 *What to take cell phone, wallet/purse, some money, bag *Conclusion I think I will have a good time. I think I will spend a lot of money. I think I will be tired. 10 Practice Activity Write a paragraph. Goal: Write a paragraph about the next week end. Method: *Use the notes you jotted down to structure your paragraph. REMEMBER sentence order 1. Topic, 2. What, 3. How long, 4. What time, 5. What to take and 6.Conclusion. *On the lines below the clouds students write a paragraph about their weekend. Use the paragraph about Mary s weekend as a guide. Demonstration: *If need be, teacher uses the notes on the board to write a paragraph. 10 Perform Goal: Listen to your friend s weekend and write a paragraph. Introductory Sheet

Don t show your paragraph. *Your friend jots down a memo about your weekend in the memo section. *Change roles. *Write about your friend s weekend in the space below. *Check with your friend for accuracy after the writing. 5 Post Work Consolidation: Read a paragraph and ask some questions to the class.
