1 Introductions SUBJECT SPEAKING SKILL SPEAKING TASK People Introducing yourself Introduce yourself to other classmates. Introducing yourself When you meet someone for the first time, you should greet each other and exchange names. In informal situations, you can greet the person by saying either Hi. or Hello. and then tell the person your first name [Hi, I m Kin. /Hello. My name s Maria.]. Hi, I m... is slightly less formal than Hello. My name s.... In more formal situations, you can say, How do you do? and then give your full name [How do you do? My name s Maria Romano.]. It is considered polite to follow a greeting with It s nice to meet you. (or just Nice to meet you.). An appropriate response would be Nice to meet you, too. It is also polite to give a compliment and to express interest in the person. You might compliment his or her clothing or abilities [I like your jacket. Your English is very good.]. If you receive a compliment, you should thank the person and return the same compliment or respond with another. 3 Introducing yourself You can introduce yourself by saying hello and giving your name. You can be polite by saying Nice to meet you. or Nice to see you. and giving compliments (saying something nice about the person). 3 Listen and repeat.
