It is also polite to give a compliment and to express interest in the person. You might compliment his or her clothing or abilities [I like your jacket.

To express interest in the person, you can ask a question about the situation in which you meet [How long have you been studying English? ].

Introducing yourself When you meet someone for the first time, you should greet each other and exchange names. In informal situations, you can greet the person by saying either Hi. or Hello. and then tell the person your first name [Hi, I m Kin. /Hello. My name s Maria.]. Hi, I m... is slightly less formal than Hello. My name s.... In more formal situations, you can say, How do you do? and then give your full name [How do you do? My name s Maria Romano.].
