1 Authority Site Build (Video 1) Okay, let s get started. So what you re looking at here is WooDesigner.net and you can actually pull that up in your browser if you want to actually take a look at this website. As you can see here the D is shared here in WooDesigner, so make sure you get that right and then.net. This is the site I created specifically for this training, for this Money Site Trainer (MST) training. I was going to go through and actually build this site in the video, and I quickly realized that I would have to cut the video up and it would ve just been a pain. It s a lot less painful doing it this route for me and for you. This way you can see the finished product and then go back and see how exactly I did it. This is the hub of basically the funnel. Hub of the you could even call it its own little business. If you really get serious with this and get into something that you have a passion for, this can really be its own business. It really, really can. Many people have done it, I ve done it; it really works. This is the hub for it all, so this is your authority website. One of your primary goals is to get this website getting a lot of traffic from different sources, Google, Facebook, etc., social media in general, as many places as you can. We ll go into the actual marketing of it later on in another video, but in this video, I just want to go through how to properly create this website, how to make it look good, how to make it optimized properly, just everything that you really need to think about and do for your hub website. Let s go ahead and get started on it, so the first thing, obviously, you want to find a good domain. You want to make sure that you are targeting a brand name. That s not 100%; it s not an absolute must. You can use exact match domain, if you like. There are a few things to consider there, especially with SEO (search engine optimization), primarily with SEO and I ll get into that in the SEO video, the marketing video. I do highly recommend using a brand name, unless you have a really good reason not to, especially these days with over-optimization, you really have to you can still use exact match domain, but you need to be careful with it. I recommend using a brand name, and in this case, I went and found WooDesigner, the D is shared with wood and designer. It s WooDesigner.net, so you can open that up in your browser if you like and take a look. Once I had the domain registered, obviously, I got to add it to my hosting account. I changed the name servers for the domain to my hosting account and the hosting company provides you the name servers or you might have your own private name servers if you go that 1

2 route. Either way, just get the domain pointed to the hosting account and then install Wordpress. I m not going to get into that, but that s very easy. Most C panel hosting companies have Wordpress installer software where you can click a button and install Wordpress directly where you don t have to do it manually. Otherwise you can go to Wordpress.org and they have a fiveminute install process there that will show you how to do it. Once you have Wordpress installed, the first thing you want to do is make sure that you have a good secure username and password. That s very important. Wordpress sites are hacked all the time; all the time Wordpress sites are hacked. They re a big, huge target for hackers and spammers and there s all kinds of automated scripts out there created by hackers that are constantly working to try to get into Wordpress sites. One of the best things you can do is use a username other than admin. So don t use admin as your user name. If you have already, it s not a huge deal. There are a couple of other things, which I ll get into, a plugin that we use, which I ll explain in this video actually that will help tremendously. But I do recommend not using admin for your username, just to use something obscure for your username. Then, obviously, don t use an easy password. Get some special characters in there: letters and numbers, upper case, lowercase, etc. You don t want your site to get hacked. So that s the first thing to consider and that s actually when you re installing Wordpress. If you re using an installer or doing it manually, it doesn t matter, just make sure that you do that. Of course, you can change that stuff after you ve installed it as well. Next, you want to change the permalinks. I m going to go ahead into the dashboard here and I m going to go down to settings and permalinks. Okay, so the permalinks are the URL structure of your blog posts and pages. In the past it was incredibly important that you used most people used just the title, or the category and then the title, but now with over-optimization with Google of course we re not solely concentrating on Google with this method, but you definitely should keep them in mind because that is a whole lot of good targeted traffic. Once you get your site going, even if you don t start off with Google traffic, even if you re not concentrating on getting rankings in Google, once your site starts to receive a decent amount of traffic, the Google rankings will naturally come, almost always. I think every single website I ve ever had that became popular, eventually ranked in Google, even back before I really knew a whole lot about SEO, they did. A website that has a lot of traffic just gets natural links and just eventually ranks in Google. 2

3 When you can do things that will help you to rank better in Google, you can rank sooner and get more traffic sooner. You definitely want to do that, so we always have SEO in mind, although we re not concentrating solely on SEO. Back to my point previously you would want to use just the title and that way mysite.com/redwidgets. If the post is about red widgets, then you have red widgets in the URL, you have the keyword in the URL because you have keyword in the title of the post and the title is what s used in the URL. Depending on how you optimize your site, you can get away with it if you have your site optimized correctly, but the way I teach and the way that works, the way I do it, is I start off with the URL. I do not over-optimize the URL and that is something Google has hammered down on a lot of sites with exact key words in the URLs have dropped in rankings. What I do and there are several different ways you can do this. I ll make that clear. There are several different ways you can do this. The main thing is that you re not over-optimizing going directly for your keyword. But this is the way I do it. I use category and post id. A couple of years ago, if I would ve seen someone using this, I would ve said, Whoa, that s not good for SEO, that s bad for SEO. But these days, the way Google s working, this is much better than having your, just your post name right here or even the category and then the post name. Again, you can get away with it. I m not saying all sites that do that are just horrible in Google. You may be able to show me one or more of your own sites that are ranking like that. I believe I have a couple of sites that are ranking with the post name as the permalink structure. Google is just going more and more away from high percentage of optimization and they re really seeing that as a bad thing these days. The further you can get away from it, the better. This is what I do. I won t get into any further detail on that. I use category and then post id and then it ends up looking like WooDesigner.net and then if the categories doghouse, then it s doghouse and then it s just a number for the post id. So you always have at least a keyword in there and it s a general broad keyword because that s what you re using for your category, but you re not you don t have your exact keyword in there. So there s some keyword relevance in the URL, but it s not an exact match keyword in there, which is bad. I like this. It s been working well. You can just take that exact whatever you want to string right there and insert that into your custom structure for your permalinks. That s forward slash percentage category 3

4 percentage forward slash percentage post underscore id percentage forward slash. That s what it is. Once I set that, the next thing I do is install my theme. The steps that I m taking, obviously, there s a lot of these don t necessarily have to be done in this order, this is just the order that I took took my notes as I was creating this website and this is just exactly how I did it. What I m using is a theme called Frontier. You don t have to use this theme. If you have another theme you like, you can do that. For this training, this is the theme we re using, and this is a highly customizable theme. That s why I really like it. Let me go back just real quick to the site to show you what s customizable. If you do use this theme and it s free but it s highly customizable, really nice looking theme. If you don t like this, you can change it. If you think this is ugly and I m telling you it looks good, don t use that to determine whether you want to use this theme or not. You can change all of these colors, you can change the menu colors, the colors of the sidebar widgets there. You can change the colors of the links. You can change the color down here. You can change the background. Obviously, you can change your logo. So all of that stuff is highly configurable. You can remove this slider if you don t want a slider, if you just want to show the posts. You can remove the images if you want to do that for some reason. It s highly customizable, so you can have a totally different background, a totally different logo, a different color scheme. You can change the size of the slider. There s all sorts of different things you can do, so that s why I really like that theme, and I do use it on several of my own websites. That s the theme I use, you can click first you can search. Let s say your website is on fitness. You can do a search there for fitness and there are all different kinds of themes that you can this search is the installed themes, so click add new and then right here, you can search through the themes in the theme marketplace or whatever it s called there. You can put in for example, fitness, or you can filter through colors, etc., etc. You can do that, click on them, click install, install them, activate them, and you re good to go. For this we used the Frontier theme. Let me go back to it right here. I just searched for that and let me go ahead and do that real quick and just show you how I did that. I clicked add theme s and then I typed Frontier and as you can see right here, it pops up here. Since it s already installed, that s what it says, but if it weren t, it would have a link here to install it and activate it, so that s what I did. 4

5 One thing I do want to make clear if you do not use this theme. If you use a different theme, you can go out and find a premium theme; there are all kinds of nice premium themes out there. Just make sure it s a responsive theme. What that means is that it reorganizes your content if someone views your blog on a mobile device, on an iphone, Android, ipad, whatever. A lot of people are viewing websites on their phone. I have one site that I think gets something like 70% of the traffic is mobile. Only 30% of the traffic going to that site is on an actual browser on a desktop or laptop. That s huge. For that site I make sure that my theme is responsive, and that it looks good. All the content is presented correctly, ads, etc. are presented correctly on a mobile phone. Very, very important these days. Something you cannot ignore anymore. Most newer themes are responsive. If you have a theme or find a theme that you really like, but it s not responsive, you can install plug-ins that will make them responsive, that will make them mobile-ready. You can do that, it doesn t necessarily have to be responsive, but if it s not responsive, just make sure you have a mobile-ready plug-in. Okay, next, is the title tags. After I had that installed, I went in to modify the title. If you go into the settings and then general, you ll see a site title and tagline. How these are displayed depends on the theme, but most themes display the site title and tagline in the same way. I m going to pull this down here. You can see the URL there, so now I m going to go to the website and show you. The site title we have the brand name and in the tagline we have our keyword in there. It s natural, it looks natural that will cause somebody to click. Keep that in mind. The site title is the brand and the tagline has your keyword in there. Now, let s go to the website and let s click on one of the posts. Now, you can see here if you hover over the tab there, Your Easy Guide to DIY Doghouse WooDesigner. For an internal post, it just shows the title of the post, which is good, and then it shows the brand, so that s perfect for an internal post. The title of the post and then you want your brand name to show up because branding is very important with this. You want to get your brand out there and branding is very important for SEO these days too. Google likes to see brands, not all the time, EMDs and keyword, keyword, keyword. They want to see branding in there. They want to see a brand with a reputation, an individual with a reputation. They want to find out who they can trust based off of their brand or their name, rather than just based off of keywords and content. That is how that shows up for the internal post and then for the home page, if you hover over there, you ll see the brand, WooDesigner and then 5

6 the site tagline, which is the primary keyword that we re targeting on the home page. So the primary keyword that we re targeting is easy woodworking projects and then I added in plans just to help diversify that and that will also help us rank for easy woodworking plans and then also easy woodworking plans and projects. It s important to get that brand in there. That s a good way to do that. You could also set it to where the brand shows up after the tagline, if you like. There s different ways to do that. You can manually do that in the editor. There s plug-ins that can do it, SEO plug-ins, etc. So how you do that depends on many different things, there s many different ways to do it, that is. This is fine. A lot of people would prefer to have the brand after the tagline. I m perfectly fine with this because I want to concentrate on that brand. I want to get it known in that niche. Okay, so let s go back. Once I had the title optimized, the next I did was I changed the logo. This is something that s going to vary depending on the theme you use. If you are using the Frontier theme, this is how you do it. I m going to the Frontier options and you can see right here, you can remove the default logo that they had, which I already did, obviously, and then I just uploaded this one and you can do that right here. Pretty straightforward and self-explanatory. Again, that all depends on the theme you re using. If you re using a different theme, it s probably going to be a little different. It may or may not be in their options. It probably should be, especially if it s a premium theme, they will almost always have options just similar to this where you just go there and they ll have an easy option to change the logo. Most of them do. I went ahead and did that and then I changed the theme color. Again, this is something that s specific to the theme for Frontier. It s right here, colors, and then you can go down and just change all these colors: top bar header, main menu, bottom bar, link color, link hover color. So you can change all this stuff real quick and easy, just click the link there, change the color to whatever color you want. Then I changed the copyright and that is under display as well. If you scroll down again, this is Frontier-theme specific but here it is, right here, footer text and you just add whatever you want there and that will show up at the bottom. Once you re on the site, scroll down to the bottom and as you can see right there: WooDesigner.net Once I changed the copyright, I changed the background image. We ll go back down to Frontier options and click background. I just found this online. There s all kinds of background images you can use. Depending on how they are created by the designer, most of them can be used like this. You just upload it and then center it and then scroll and then tile. 6

7 If you put tile, that will make it display how this one does. It just repeats itself, but you can t even tell. No one will ever notice this right here where it repeats itself. It looks real nice, goes right along with the theme of the website. You want your site to really look good and professional because we want it to become authoritative like I said. Once I had that done actually, there s one thing I haven t done yet. I ll do that here soon, is the favicon. The favicon, again, is in the Frontier options. You can do this outside of Wordpress if you want, just directly in your FTP. [19:05.5] liner code in your meta tags. You just have to Google that. Pretty simple and there s a lot of simple instructions out there. Just Google how to favicon to your website, something like that. A lot of themes have the option to do it directly in here. Like I said, I haven t done this yet, but what a favicon is let me just show you again here. Right here, as you can see there s not one there, but you can see Keyword Canine, has a little dog there, Facebook, etc. You can see these are favicons. This is something, that obviously, it s not crucial. It s really not a big deal if you have one or not, but you know it s nice, especially for an authoritative website. It s pretty common. Most authoritative websites have a favicon, so I do highly recommend you use one and you can just use the same thing you use for your Facebook page and we ll get into that here soon. Just a little icon, whatever, that looks nice, just a small little icon; upload it here and it will show up there, like I said. Okay, once I had that done, I got into the plug-ins. A lot of important things here. Let s go ahead and just go into the plug-ins and I ll just show you everything I have and I ll go ahead and update that. Okay, so the first thing that I installed was Facebook comments by Fat Panda. To add any of these plug-ins, click add new and then just do a search here. Facebook comments by Fat Panda. Do the search and as you can see right there, Facebook comments by Fat Panda, it s already installed. If you decide to use a different plug-in that does the same thing, just look at the ratings. I like to look at the number of ratings. This one doesn t have a whole lot, but I ve used it several times before, it s a good plug-in. Look for a lot of ratings, and look for a high rating. Obviously, at least a four. In some cases, good plug-ins have less than four just for different reasons, but for the most part, I try to stay away from any plug-in that has a rating of less than four stars. But four and above, as long as it has several ratings as you can see this one has 28 as long as it has several ratings and a high rating, it should be safe and good to go, but there are plug-ins out there that are not safe, so be careful. 7

8 Okay, so that s how you search for these plug-ins, so I won t go back into that. Just do that for all of these. I just search for the exact name. So Facebook comments by Fat Panda does this. When you open a blog post, scroll down to the bottom, it does this. It allows people to comment with Facebook. This is all I use anymore. I m sure there are people who can make the argument of not using it. Facebooks so huge anymore, if someone s online viewing a blog post, they re probably logged into Facebook. If they re logged into Facebook and they re viewing your content, then it would be great for them to leave a comment. If they leave a comment with Facebook, that s going to share your link on their Facebook wall. It s a good thing. It really can drive traffic to a website. Very large amount of traffic depending on the site. It s just a really good idea to integrate comments. I don t even use the built-in Wordpress comments anymore. I really like to use Facebook comments on all of my sites these days. The Facebook comments by Fat Panda, that s what it does. It just does exactly that. You can do it manually, if you know how to get into the editor, change a little HTML in there. Not very hard, but if you don t know much about that, that s fine. You can just use that plug-in. Or, rather I just do that. It s much quicker and easier to do a search and install that plug-in. It take a couple of seconds, whereas if I go to the Facebook developers page, generate the code, etc., that could take a few minutes, so it s quick and easy and it works fine. Okay, so Facebook comments next, floating social bar. There are several different social bars out there that are perfectly fine. This one s called floating social bar and there are some out there that I would probably say are better than this and I ll probably eventually change this out. But this is fine. It adds a nice little bar of social sharing options here. I highly recommend you do add some kind of social sharing to every blog post. I like the share bar, them types of things that show up on the side and they float, so as you scroll down, they stay there. I really like those. A few of them, I ve had trouble with them displaying right on some of my blogs, so that may be why I didn t use it here, I forget. But just have some kind of noticeable sharing options. You definitely, absolutely without a doubt want Facebook on there, Twitter and Pinterest, Google Plus. These four I would say are the four definites. You definitely want to have those four. If you want to add a few more, that s fine. I wouldn t add too many options. A lot of people don t do real well with too many options. They might just skip it all together, but if you just have a few options there, 8

9 that s really good. If you even wanted to reduce it down to the top couple, Facebook and either Twitter or Pinterest or if you re really active on Google Plus, you can do that depending on your niche. Some inches do better on different social networks too. Recipes and stuff do excellent on Pinterest Facebook, not so well on, Twitter, and Google Plus, etc. depending on your niche. But definitely get some kind of social sharing in there. All right, so Facebook comments, the sharing plug-in and then the third one is Jetpack by Wordpress. I like Jetpack for several different reasons. It has several different neat things. I like the stats. You get a quick look at the stats. Let me just take a look here and I can kind of quickly show you everything that jetpack offers. You can see all these different things, so it s basically a whole bunch of plug-ins in one. It s from Wordpress, the creators of Wordpress, so it s definitely credible. Comments just all different kinds of things that you can use there. I installed that. Let s go back to the plug-ins. Okay, Jetpack, next, Limit Login Attempts and this is the one that I mentioned earlier regarding hackers. So if you use this plug-in, this makes it to where if a script is trying to attack your site, during a brute force attack, trying to get logged in with most of them have a database of potential password variations [25:40.8] thousands of times. But this, once it hits so many login attempts, it ll just block them out, it ll block the IP. This is a really, really good plugin to have. Highly recommend you get this. Just install it the same way that I showed you. Very, very important plug-in to have. Next, PopUp Domination. I don t have this installed yet. I m going to show you more about this once I get into the squeeze page because this goes right along with the squeeze page, just building your list. There s a different video where I get into that. This will be activated soon once I get it up. I m going to have that activated. I m going to have a nice light box showing up a few seconds after people visit the website, giving away a free report and that s going to be part of the funnel to build my list and then that list, I ll use to send people to the new blog post. It s a circle, it s a funnel and it works well, and PopUp Domination is one of the ways that you can do that. GetResponse, A-weber, the top marketing services also offer popups. I just like some of the templates that PopUp Domination uses. Next, Read More, Copy Link. This is just something that you can use what this does is if you ve ever gone to a blog and tried to copy a snippet of content and then you go and paste it somewhere and it shows the link where you got it, that s what this does. Let me go ahead and show you real quick. Let s open this up and let s just copy this right here. We re going to copy this and now I m going to open up a blank notepad document. So now I m going to paste it here. 9

10 As you can see here, it added this along with it. It added my URL, and my copyright statement along with the text. So especially with automated scrapers out there, if they re scraping content, it s going to add an attribution to you. There is if you get heavy scraping, there s the potential that it could get you re going to get a link from low-quality sites and with negative SEO, I suppose it could hurt you. So far I ve used this with a link and not had any problems. If that scares you, just don t use a link, but you can still use it and attribute it to you. Just don t use the link because you can set that and let me quickly show you that. You can set that in the settings of the plug-ins. If you click here once it s installed and activated, you can change what it is here and this shows you where you can had the to show up there. It s pretty quick and easy simple plug-in. I really like to use that. After that one, Related Posts. This is every important, especially for SEO, but also for the user. Related Posts via taxonomies, and this has several different options. Once you have that installed, there s a few things you can change the number of related posts right here. I believe you can also change that and the widget because this creates a widget and I ll get into the widgets here in just a few minutes. It creates a widget, and I think you can change that within the widget. Either way you can change that here as well. You can change I think they, by default, add via taxonomies here. So I just delete that. So it just says related post. There s just a few other things here. I guess that s pretty much it. I think I ll leave, for the most part, the rest default. But you can kind of browse through there, see if there s anything in there that you would want to change. For the most part the default setting is good. I just removed via taxonomies that they have in there by default. The reason related posts are important if you open a blog post so let s say this is something you re interested in, you got there, wherever, you read it, okay, that s great. Then you see related posts. Now, I only have five posts published to this blog right now, so obviously there aren t very many showing. But after you start to get some content, you re going to have several different related posts showing up there. Actually I was wrong about the widget, that s the recent post widget. This is the related post and I only show this within the post, so this is not a widget, that s a different widget. We ll get into that here in a few minutes, but this just automatically inserts it directly below the post. Okay, you show how many it s going to show and it sorts by relevance or you can change that setting. This is really good from a user standpoint and an SEO standpoint. 10

11 From a user standpoint, obviously, they just read a relevant post that they were interested in that they got there, read it and then once they re done with it, they re presented with other related posts. In this case, maybe they re thinking about creating a dog house, and then they go, Oh, okay, well, a chicken coop. That d be neat too. So they click on that, you know, it s all related. These are people looking for plans and to learn how to create these different things out of wood. A lot of these people aren t doing a lot of the people who come to this article, probably are not going to do it because their dog needs a dog house. A lot of these people are doing it because it s their hobby to make stuff out of wood. So they just want to learn how to make dog houses, maybe they sell them, maybe they give them to friends or whatever, it s just a hobby. Maybe they read that and say, Okay, well, that sounds fun, or Oh, yeah, that d be neat, you know building a chicken coop or a rabbit hutch or something, so they click on that. So, from the user standpoint, it s good. It s not intrusive. It gets them deeper into your site, so they see other parts of your site, which is more potential for ad revenue, etc. depending on what you re doing, affiliate revenue, etc. Then from an SEO standpoint, it really helps with internal linking. It gets those spiders from Google and Bing, etc. into your website deeper and deeper, so they see the relevant content on each post. It s just a really good thing. It helps with your internal linking structure, it helps to distribute that authority throughout your website, which is a good thing. It s beneficial on both sides, from both avenues. Next, Transposh, and this is something I just recently started using on a few of my websites. So, I ll make that known right away, but it s something I really like and there are a couple of very important things you need to know about this specific plug-in. I ll get into that here in just a moment. First, let me just show you what it does. So, if you go to the website, now, you can see right here it translates. Obviously what it does is it takes all of your content and it translates the content into all of these different languages. You can change if you only want to translate to a few languages, you can do that. I manually selected each one of these languages to be displayed and so far on the sites that I ve used this on, I ve had no problems. As a matter of fact, I ve had a jump in traffic on some of them, just due to the increased number of pages indexed in different languages. So it expands the potential for SEO traffic and just more ad revenue, etc. I think it s a good thing. Obviously, it s not annually translated, its machine translated, but machine translators, Google, etc. really are getting a lot better these days. My wife s German, she speaks fluent German. She ll read some of the German translations from Google and these automatic translations and it s kind of funny. But for the most 11

12 part, it s understandable and that s what s important. They can read an article and understand it. They might chuckle, it might be a little funny to them, but they can understand it and when you get that, that s a good thing. That s something I use. It s absolutely not a necessity. I wouldn t say you definitely better have this, but I have seen it cause traffic spikes, an increase in traffic. It does increase the number of pages indexed in Google. So this content is getting indexed in Google. I ve seen it firsthand. Google doesn t hate it; from what I can see, they re indexing it. A lot of these languages aren t full so saturated as English. The English index in Google is enormous compared to most other languages. A lot of these languages don t have nearly the competition as the English overall market. So it s a good thing, but like I said, I just started using it so I don t have long-term experience with it, but so far I really like it. Like I said there are a few important things that you need to know about this, and let me get into that. If you get into the settings of Transposh, the translation, first off, there is one very, very important setting, and this right here remove Transposh logo. You can just click a box, and it will remove the logo. Well if you click on this term, it says see terms -- I m glad I clicked it. It says that up to 5% of your advertising space and affiliate links will be replaced by theirs. So that s a very important thing to consider. For most of my sites that I m using this on, I just leave it. I just allow it to be shown. I don t think I did, but I m going to because I don t even know how they would change out their affiliate links unless they re doing it manually, which is all I have right now, is affiliate links. I don t have AdSense ads or anything. That could easily switch out the AdSense ads but Anyway, that s just something to keep in mind. That may cause you to not even want to use it and that s fine, but they are at least transparent about it although there s probably a lot of people who just click that and don t even read that and I m sure they know that. But you can keep that un-ticked and they won t switch out your ads with their affiliate links or however they do that, I don t know. But you can just leave that. Having that one little logo and then let me show you how it looks. It s not that big of a deal. It s just a little logo. One little external link like that isn t going to hurt anything. If I can open that, and as you can see right there, it just adds that little logo and that little link to their website, Transposh.org. So just keep that in mind. If that s a deal-breaker, then don t use it. It s not that big of a deal. Just a nice little add-on, I think, and I do use it. 12

13 A couple of other things with that plug-in that you do want to keep in mind. For whatever reason, this latest update of Wordpress, I guess, caused them some issues. There s a thing that you have to do here. Okay, it looks like it s gone now that I ve done it but and they may have already updated and fixed this, but there was an option I had to click and it may have just been in the dashboard there or in the settings where it basically said allow the plug-in to update, allow the premium plug-in, something like that. It s free. It doesn t cost anything. You click that and then next time you go into your plug-ins and look at the plug-ins, there will be an update for Transposh. Then you can update it. If you don t do that, you can only select up to five languages. So that s it. Now you can select as many as you want. I just selected the ones with at least three different logos here. It might be flawed logic. I just figure if there s several different large services that cover that language, then it s probably worth displaying content for it. So I just went through all of them that had at least three logos there that translate that language and went that route, so I ended up with all of those. Okay, so that s it for Transposh and let s go to the next one here. The next one is W3 Total Cache and it s the last one. This is very important as well because this helps your page speed considerably, depending on the theme you re using, etc., several different things. This can really, really help you and Google does definitely look at the page load of websites. If a page doesn t load very fast, that can definitely cause your site to drop in ranking or even be de-indexed if it takes too long to load. This really helps and not only for Google s sake but just for your users. I can t tell you how many times I ve clicked on a link to go to a website and just sat there for three or four seconds and I just closed it because I wasn t incredibly interested in the first place. It was just kind of a let s see what this is and then it didn t load for several seconds and I just close it. I could only imagine there are a lot of other people that do the same thing. So the quicker your site loads, the better. A lot of those people, they might see something right away when your site opens. Okay, this is something I want to see. Or they might see an ad and click it. So there s a lot of possibilities you definitely want. If someone clicks on your link, you want them to see your page. So this is very important. Pretty simple. Just type in W3 Total Cache. Get that installed and activate it and you re good to go. Now, one thing to keep in mind whether you re using W3 Total Cache or a different caching plug-in is that sometimes when you make certain updates to your site, it may not go live because it s showing a cached version. If that s the case, you can go into the settings and you can clear 13

14 the cache every now and then. I haven t done it in so long that I don t even remember how to do it but I know you can do it. Okay, yeah, here. So just page cache and then you scroll down there. You can see empty cache. It s not highlighted because there s no cache to empty but you can do that. So that s it for the plug-ins. These are all really good, highly recommended plug-ins that I use. Each individual, a couple of those are optional, like I explained when I went through them but really, really good plug-ins. I highly recommend you use them. So that s what I did. After the plug-ins, I created a Facebook page. So I m going to go ahead and show you how to do that. This is creating an app. I m going to show you that here in just a moment. First, I ll show you how to create a page here. So at the top right once you re logged in to Facebook, way over here in the corner, up at the top right, very right, there s a little down arrow. Click that. There s an option to Create a Page. This is what you ll see. Depending on what your niche is, what you re doing, you ll select one of these. I think I usually choose Company, Organization, or Institution. It could be a Cause or Community as well. I ll go ahead with that. Choose a category, put in the name of the company, get started. It s pretty selfexplanatory. I m not going to go through that. I ve already created a page for this but you shouldn t have any problems with that. Either that or Cause or Community or I suppose you could be doing one of those, depending on what the niche and what you re doing with your site. Once you have that done, let me go ahead and show you then you want to get integrated into your website. So let me show you that. So we ll go to the widgets and these are what you see. Let me just show you. For the most part, these widgets that we re messing with here are the sidebar widgets. So all of this in the sidebar here is what we re adjusting here. There s also a header widget, which I ll show you as well, but for the most part, we re messing with these sidebar widgets. All right, so we ll go into widgets. The first thing is sidebar right for Frontier. So if you re using the Frontier theme, it s sidebar right that you re adjusting here. So the first widget I have is search. The second is Transposh. You just pull these over. So if you want to pull something over, you just drop it there. So I already have these here but for you, you ll want to do that. So there s already a few in there. I take out everything. If you don t see it here, text, recent post, text, categories, Facebook-like box, and Transposh. These are the only sidebar widgets I have. If you have 14

15 anything other than that, just pull it out and drag it and drop it over here. Then this is what we re going to have. So, search, Transposh, and it should already be showing up here after you ve installed it. Transposh now just drag it over here if you do use that. Then the Facebook like box, and that s from Jetpack, the Wordpress Jetpack that we installed. Pull that from over here and drop it into here. Categories, same thing. Actually, that one should already be there. Then, these we ll get into here in just a moment. These are text widgets where we add code for our affiliate banners in this case, for a video, and then recent post there. So you can change these up if you want. This is the order I like to have them in. Let s go ahead into the Facebook like box. As you can see here, you have the option to add a title I don t use a title the Facebook page URL so grab the URL of the page that you just created, paste it there the width if you re using Frontier, 305 x 220 is a good width and height. If you re using a different theme, just put whatever. Use default, see what it looks like. If it needs to be wider or more narrow, then just adjust it there. The color scheme, we use the light color scheme. You can change that if you have a dark color scheme. I do like to show faces because after you start to get people to like your page, it s good to show them. It shows that there s a community; that it s not just them finding this page in the worldwide web and they re the only person in the world looking at it. They see other people, so that s social proof. There s a sense of community there. They re looking at content that other people have looked at and there s a community of people who actually like this brand, that s WooDesigner.net. There must be other people that like this because, look at these people over here. So I definitely like to show the faces and then I leave those blank and then I save that. Then you do want to go into you have to create a Facebook app and I believe that s for the Let me go ahead and do this real quick. I just want to show you before I forget. For the first one there, Facebook comments. I was thinking that was for the sidebar widget but it s not; it s actually for the Facebook comments. So once you re in here, you ll need to add in an app ID and I m going to go ahead and show you how to do that. This isn t asking for it because I ve already added it. As you can see here, it says Change App ID because I ve already added the app ID. But for you, if you haven t added it yet, it s going to ask you what your App ID is. So let me show you how to do that. First, just go to Facebook. Then go to your main Facebook page, so not the page that you created for your website but change it to your primary Facebook. At the top right, you can click that little arrow thing and you ll have the 15

16 option Use Facebook As. Use Facebook as yourself, not as that page. Once you ve done that, go to your wall and at the top left I don t want to show you this because I have a lot of clients, who I have their Facebook pages still hosted in mine, so I don t want to show you their apps and their Facebook pages. Once you ve done that and you re on your actual Facebook wall, at the left, scroll down and you ll see an option that says Manage Apps. Click that and this is what you ll see. Once you do that again, I don t want to click this and show you their apps, but you click on that and then you can create a new app. Once you click that, this is what you ll see. Then you can just name it, like WooDesigner. In this case, it s WooDesigner. So just name that. You don t have to add anything there, and then choose a category and then create the app. Then you re going to have then it will show you an app ID. So once you ve done that, copy that app ID and paste it into here and save it. Then you re good to go. Then you can log in to set the moderators, etc. So it s pretty simple from there, but that s something that I missed when I was discussing that and I just wanted to make sure you knew that. Once you have that done, you re good to go. Okay, so now let s get back to the widgets. So we ll go back to the widgets and, sidebar right, remember for the Frontier theme. This is primarily what it s called, the widget that we re dealing with. This controls everything that displays in the right sidebar. So Transposh, you can click on each one of these, it ll drop them down. If there are options, it ll show you. So as you can see here, for Transposh, you can change the title that shows up. Let me show you that. Okay, so this is the title. You can change this to whatever you want. I just have Translate. Then you can change the style. I like the flags. I just like people to see the flags, especially considering its translation. So if you have text, they re not going to be able to read it if they can only read these other languages. So I like the flags, it s easily identifiable. Save that. Next, Facebook likes. Just add the URL of your new Facebook page there, not your personal Facebook, but the Facebook page that you just created. Like I said, again, do the size there. I ve already gone through all that. So once you have that, click save there and that will save that. Then the categories. I just leave that how it is, default. Then here, we re adding an affiliate option, and I m not going to get into finding this affiliate author because there s another video of monetization where I m going to dig into that, but find a related affiliate offer. Get the code and I ll show you how to do all that then. But take your AH Ref code, that s 16

17 just a link code to your affiliate link, and then get a banner, a nice banner. Add it there, center it, and then just give it a title. I did add woodworking plans. So that s a partial keyword to my primary keyword phrase. So you want to get those into these titles a little bit here and there variations of your primary keyword in there. Don t get your primary keyword over and over and over, exact match, in all these titles; it ll be over-optimization. But do try to get variations of them in the titles because these are H1s. What you see here are usually H1s and that s looked at higher, I guess you could say, in Google s eyes. This is what this all looks like. So once you have that stuff set, that s what the Transposh looks like. That s what the Facebook page looks like. It pulls all that into there, the Facebook widget. Categories, I only have two categories right now in this blog. Then this is what that affiliate manner looks like, that code that you looked at, that s what it looks like. Then, once you have that, the recent posts, I like to put about ten in there. I like to have a larger number there that s going to show ten recent posts, just your ten most recent posts. That shows up for each internal post page, too. So it s kind of repetitive on the home page because most of those are already showing up on the home page anyway, so it s extra links. But once you open up each one of these, it s adding a better internal linking structure, showing all of your new posts there to help them build up authority for those because you re getting links from all your other posts. So that s a good thing to have there. Then after that, I like to add some kind of media, some kind of a nice good related relevant video from YouTube or one of the other popular video-sharing sites. So I just went to YouTube and typed in Woodworking projects. I found a nice little video and I just embedded it there. So I got the embed code from YouTube. I changed the width to 300 and height 225, so it fits into the sidebar, and then I added center tags around that so it s centered and it looks real nice. Then I saved that and that s what it looks like so it s a nice little video. You could even add a couple if you wanted. If you wanted to fill out the sidebar a little more, you could add a couple of videos there. So that s it for the widgets and, as you can see, it looks real nice. You definitely want to have your Facebook widget up towards the top so people see that right away. They ll just see that sense of community right away. Once I start to get a lot more likes on here, obviously it s going to be I ll have three different rows, at least. So you ll see three rows of different people. I m not sure why it s showing duplicates here. It s just a little I guess since there s not enough likes, it just duplicates them to fill out the row. That ll look real nice and it really does help with conversion and the balance rate, etc., having that sense of community there. 17
