Prezi : Software redefining how Presentations are created. Marni Saenz 6321 Spring 2011 Instructional Unit 4
Instructional Unit 4: The Instructional Strategy Specific Goal: The presentation created using Prezi will be a biographical, and will incorporate a timeline from their birth to present. The student will show command of the software by incorporating different features into the presentation, such as panning, zooming, and organization of the final product. Overview: The instructional unit was created to train middle school students on how to use an online presentation program called Prezi. The students have a basic knowledge of media playing software, internet usage, and basic Microsoft Office commands.. 1. An explanation of the instructional strategies selected. 2. A description of the media selection and delivery mode. 3. First draft of the Instructional Materials. Media and Delivery Mode: The media and training materials will be offered to the students online through the schools intranet. It will also be accessible from home. It will include: 1. Multimedia Presentations: These presentations will be instructional guides to help self guide the learner through the tutorial process. These are short videos that
can be completed in one session. Will guide the learner through all the steps to put a Prezi account together. The video will include a presenter named Amanda that will guide them through a step by step instruction with examples on how to navigate through the student s Prezi presentation. 2. Internet/Intranet training guide: The videos will be available on the school intranet. The student will also be able to obtain the information from home, on the schools website. First Draft of Instructional Materials. The following contains the first draft of the instructional materials that were created in the form of a storyboard in Microsoft PowerPoint. The text is written beside the character that will be saying the text while the video is displaying the step-by-step how to. The student will be allowed to view, and rewind the video as much as possible before completing the task in Prezi. The student is also able to run the video concurrent if they want, so that they may complete each step with the video. The first draft of draft of instructional materials was created in Microsoft Word and converted into a pdf format to be easily viewed by the reviewer. This first draft was created to verify that all avenues of the lesson have been covered. The video segment of the project is covered in the following pages showing what will be said and shown. All video that would be captured in Camtasia is shown as a still shot, so that the review can gain a concept of what the video will look like. The anime used to narrate will be embedded into the video clip.
Video 1 Hi fellow classmate have you ever wished that you could create PowerPoint presentation that was filled with adventure, and not considered distracting or boring? I am Amanda and I will be your guide through your tutorials on how to master the program Prezi for your presentation. I am glad you are joining us in learning an exciting new easy way to create an interactive presentation. Please take each lesson at your own pace, and rewind if you need to review concepts. If you are still having trouble please click on the help button and there will be a step- by- step guide to get you through the process. Video 2 Slide 1 Hello again! Before we begin, I would like to take the time to review skills that you use everyday. With knowledge of these basic skills, you will see how easy it will be to create your Prezi presentation. Let s first look at a program that is similar to Prezi, but only offers the presentation in a linear pattern. Yes you guessed it, it is PowerPoint! When you first start your PowerPoint presentation, the slide allows you to create your title page without have to having to insert a text box, but as you proceed and need to add more text you need to add a text box like the one pictured on the side.
You can go to insert, and then choose textbox, or you can choose the textbox button from the menu. Slide 2: Once you have your text in, you are able to insert a picture, which you can do by choosing insert, and then picture. You will need to select where you want the picture to come from, whether it is clip art, or a file. Remember you can also choose the picture box from the toolbar as well. Once you have chosen it, you select insert, and your picture will be inserted into your presentation.
Slide 3 Once you have your text and pictures in, you are able to insert video, which you can do by choosing insert, and then movie. You will need to select where you want the movie to come from. Remember you can also choose the media box from the toolbar and choose movie from the drop down menu. Once you have chosen it, you select insert, and your movie will be inserted into your presentation. The PowerPoint will ask if you want to start the video automatically, or when you click. Once have completed adding all you information, then you are able to save your PowerPoint and Present your information in a linear pattern. Slide 4 Now that we have reviewed PowerPoint, it is essential to make sure you remember how to enter your URL address for Prezi. I understand many of you use the Internet so much, that you do not think twice about getting to any site you need, but it is always good to review and make sure that everyone is on the same page. We wouldn t want to lose
you in Internet land. It is important once you open your browser, whether it is Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari that you enter in your address bar. Once you do, you will get a screen that looks like this. This is the home page for Prezi. You will be able to sign up for your educational account, for free. Slide 5 Obviously you already know how to play a movie on your computer, since you are watching me. If at anytime you do not understand something make sure to ask your teacher, or rewind the tape and review the material again. I am excited about our journey through Prezi. I know you will be just as excited as soon as you see how fun and exciting a Prezi presentation can be. Start the next video when you are ready, and be prepared to add pizzazz to your presentations.
Video 3 Creating a New Prezi Account Once you have opened the Prezi page, you will need to sign up for an account. This is an easy task to accomplish. Look for this button on the home page. Slide 2 Once you click on the sign up button, you will be transferred to another page where you need to choose which type of account you want. Click on the student/teacher section, which looks like this.
Slide 3 You have now chosen to sign up for the student and teacher license. There are a few things that you need to get from you teacher. One thing is your school , and the second is the password you will want when you log in. When you have both of these things, you are ready to sign up for your account. You will be defaulted to a screen that looks like this. You will want to choose the free 500MB account.
Slide 4 Once you have chose the free Prezi account, you will need to enter you school account in for verification. Slide 5 You will be told that you are going to receive an from Prezi in that account. You will need to log into your , and follow the link provided to finish your signing up process. When you click on the link, it will take you to the final screen for signing up. It will look like this. Make sure to check that you agree to the terms of use after you read them. You are now signed up for Prezi and ready to begin your adventure.

Video 4 Adding Positioning and Manipulate Text Slide 1 Welcome, and congratulations for signing up for your Prezi account. In this tutorial, you will see how fun and easy it is to add, place, and manipulate your text in your presentation. You first need to start a new Prezi presentation; you will need to click on a button that looks like this. Once you have selected the new Prezi button, you will then be defaulted to another screen that looks like this. The purpose of this screen is to name your project and give it a description, so that you can easily access it when you need it.
Slide 2 Now that you have named your project, it is time to get to work. To add text, you simply need to click anywhere on the screen, and type what you would like. Your story can be put anywhere on the canvas, since Prezi does not follow in a linear format. Your screen when you first start will look like this. Slide 3 Now it is time to type in the title for your autobiography. After you have completed that, add in all the events that make up your life story. Remember that you can add the text in any order. You can also adjust if you want it to be a title, or body text, along with how you want it formatted from left justifying to centering. You can also create bullets from this box. Once you have entered all your data, your storyboard should look something like this.
Now you can have fun with your text and begin to decide how you want your presentation to start looking. Slide 4 When you finish with the text, you will notice that if you click on it again, and the transformation Zebra appears. The center wheel, you will be able to move the text wherever you want it, the middle circle allows you to make your text larger or smaller. The outer circle allows you to rotate the text in any direction that you would like. It works like a wheel spinning the text around. You have now finished learning how to insert text. Remember that you do not have to put information together on your canvas.

Video 5 Add, Position, and Manipulate images Once you have added all your text, and placed it where and how you wanted, it is time to add images to your presentation. To do this you will have to look at the wheel on the top left of the canvas, and click on images. It will look like this. You will need to choose load file, and then choose the picture you want from your photo library. Slide 2 Once your photo that you want is inserted, you will then need to place it where you want it on your canvas. You need to adjust the photo. You can double click on the photo, and get four circles in each corner that you can use to crop the picture. Before Cropping
After Cropping Slide 3 When you are happy with how your photo, you can then move and change where it is. The technique is the same as with the text. Using the transformation zebra, you can move, change your text along with rotate it. The center wheel will allow you to move the picture wherever you want, while the center circle will allow you to make the picture bigger or smaller, and the outside circle will allow you to rotate the picture until you are satisfied where it is at. The wheel works the same for either text or pictures, but only click on the picture once if you want the wheel.
Slide 4 You have now completed how to insert a picture. Make sure that you incorporate pictures for your presentation.
Video 6 Add, Position, and Manipulate video: You now know how to add text, and pictures, but what if you wanted to add video. It is very easy to do, but you will have to post the pictures to the class YouTube site. From there you are able to get the information that you need to add it into your Prezi presentation. Below is where you will find the information you will need to insert your video. You can copy and paste the link into box for the video. Slide 2 Now that you have the address for your video off of YouTube, you can now insert it into your project. You will need to insert it using the wheel in the upper left corner of the wheel.
Slide 3 After you had chosen YouTube video, and screen will pop up that will look like this. You will paste your URL that you copied off of the site, and paste it in the box below. Once you have clicked ok, then the video will load onto the canvas. Slide 4 Now that your video is in your project you can move and manipulate it just like the text and pictures. If you click once on it, the transformation zebra will appear, in which the center wheel is used to move the video where you need it, and then the commands are the same as they are for pictures and text. The middle circle will move the video where you want it, the center circle will make the video bigger or smaller, and the outer circle will rotate the video.

Video 7 Add a path and select the order for the objects to appear, panning and zooming. Slide 1 Now that you have added your text, pictures and video, it is time to finish your presentation. When you choose the path you want your presentation to follow, you are telling us the order in which your presentation will be displayed. This is the most important part of your presentation, since if you do not choose a logical order; you will lose your audience. Make sure for your project that you choose the order that will follow your life from childhood to today. Setting your path is easy to do, since you will only go up to the blue wheel in the left hand corner and choose path. Once you have chosen path, you need to click on the 1-2- Add. You will see that it is highlighted. You now need to click on the text or picture that you want shown first. After you have decided where to start, you will then click on the next point you want your presentation to go. You do this until you have finished adding a path to all of your information. When this is completed you can view your presentation and make a final decision if a path needs to be changed, or stay the same. Once you have chosen your path, you are finished with your presentation and ready to present.
Slide 2 To zoom in, you will press the (+), and the (-) buttons on the right hand side of the canvas. By pressing the (+) button, you can zoom in on any part of your project. When you press the (-) you will zoom out of any part of your project. When you click on your text, images, or video, you will be able to zoom, pan and rotate your information, helping your project look centered. Slide 3 Now it is time to present. You are allowed to do this in a number of ways, which include, creating a video using Camtasia, Using the Internet and presenting it straight from your Prezi account, or you can or IM the presentation to the instructor and classmates, and they can view the information from anywhere. The option is yours, now go out there and create your amazing autobiography.
