WEEK ONE CORINTHIANS 13:7 (NLT) LOVE NEVER GIVES UP, NEVER LOSES FAITH, IS ALWAYS HOPEFUL, & ENDURES THROUGH EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. What circumstances make it hard for you to feel loving toward the people in your family? Maybe it s something they do that annoys you or hurts your feelings. Maybe it s a rule or expectation that frustrates you because you think it s not fair. Maybe it s something you really want but they won t give it to you. Why does that thing bother you? Do you think God wants you to love them even when they don t treat you how you want to be treated? Take a minute to look each family member in the eye & say, With God s help, regardless of what you do, I won t give up on you. I will love you no matter what. And I will always hope & pray for what s best for you.

WEEK ONE PHILLIPIANS 4:3 (NLT) I CAN EVERYTHING THROUGH CHRIST, WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH. Are there things you wish you could change about yourself that you feel like you re never going to be able to? Attitudes? Habits? Actions? What are they? Why do you want to change that thing in particular? Why do you think you can t do it? How do you think making that change would effect our family? Take a moment to pray for each member of your family that God would give them the courage to believe that God can help them do the good things He s inviting them to pursue.

WEEK ONE JEREMIAH 29:11 (NLT) I KNOW THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU, SAYS THE LORD. THEY ARE PLANS FOR GOOD AND NOT FOR DISASTER, TO GIVE YOU A FUTURE AND A HOPE. What kinds of things do you think God wants for people? Do you believe that God has good things planned for our family? Like what? Why do you think God wants that for us specifically? What s one thing that s happened in your life in the last couple months that you re thankful to God for? Why? Have everyone write down one way God has shown them he loves them recently on a scrap of paper & carry it around in their pocket all day. Every time you touch it, whisper a quiet thank you to God for how he s blessed you.

WEEK ONE DEUTERONOMY 31:6B (NLT) THE LORD YOUR GOD WILL PERSONALLY GO AHEAD OF YOU; HE WILL NEVER FAIL YOU NOR ABANN YOU. What makes you nervous or overwhelmed? When you re feeling nervous & afraid, how do you treat others in our family? Do you lash out? Do you withdraw & hide? Do you believe God knows about the challenges you face? Do you think he s with you in those moments? How? How can we work together as a family to remember God is always with us? Take a minute to look each family member in the eye & say, God will never fail you or abandon you, and with his help, neither will I. I love you & I am here for you. You don t have to face your challenges alone.

WEEK ONE ISAIAH 40:31 (NLT) - BUT THOSE WHO TRUST IN THE LORD WILL FIND NEW STRENGTH. THEY WILL SOAR HIGH ON WINGS LIKE EAGLES. THEY WILL RUN AND NOT GROW WEARY. THEY WILL WALK AND NOT FAINT. Do you ever feel like you re too tired to do everything you need to? What kind of things make you feel like that? How can we help each other to rest up when we re feeling worn out? Do you think God ever gets tired? How can we remind each other to trust that God will take care of things that are too big for us? Write Trust in the Lord on strips of paper. Have everyone hide their strips somewhere in the house where they will be found. Tape them to the TV remote, the egg carton in the fridge, the bathroom mirror...be creative! Every time you find one, stop & whisper a prayer that God will help you to trust Him & that He will give you new strength to do what you need to in life.

WEEK ONE PSALM 91:1 (NLT) - THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE SHELTER OF THE MOST HIGH WILL FIND REST IN THE SHAW OF THE ALMIGHTY. What kinds of things do you do when you need to rest or relax? Do they make you feel better or worse when you re done? Why? What kinds of activities help us remember that God loves us & that we love each other? Choose an activity one of the members of your family does to relax that you can all do together & enjoy some downtime doing what someone else loves.

WEEK ONE HEBREWS 13:8 (NLT) - JESUS CHRIST IS THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER. Can you think of ways you have changed since last year? Can you think of ways you would like to change in the future? Has anything ever changed in your life that has made you feel sad or uncomfortable? Think about the truth that Jesus never changes. What do you think that means? How can knowing that help us when things in our life change in ways that make us uneasy or uncomfortable? Make a time capsule as a family. Take a box and write today s verse inside on the lid. Have every member of the family bring something to put in the box that best illustrates what you are most worried about right now. Tape the box closed & put it in your attic or your garage. Save it till next year s FAMILY MONTH to open back up again & get a glimpse of who you used to be & how faithful God has been.

WEEK TWO PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7 (NLT) - N T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING; INSTEAD, PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING. TELL GOD WHAT YOU NEED, AND THANK HIM FOR ALL HE HAS NE. THEN YOU WILL EXPERIENCE GOD S PEACE, WHICH EXCEEDS ANYTHING WE CAN UNDERSTAND. HIS PEACE WILL GUARD YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS AS YOU LIVE IN CHRIST JESUS. Do you think you ve ever experienced God s peace? What do you think that means? What was it like for you? What kind of things do we need to pray about as a family? What has God done for us that we can thank him for together? What kinds of things do we need God to guard our hearts and minds from? Have everyone write down one thing they re thankful to God for on the same piece of paper. Magnet it to the fridge. Take time during one meal a day this whole week to read the list out loud to remind yourselves to focus on those things this week.

WEEK TWO PSALMS 51:10 (NLT) CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, O GOD. RENEW A LOYAL SPIRIT WITHIN ME. Have you ever wished you could start over? Why? It s easy to point out how we think others should change, but sometimes harder to identify how we should change. In what ways would you like to change to help your family know you love them & you re here for them? Go around the room & give every member if your family a heart-felt compliment. Tell them you love them.

WEEK TWO CORINTHIANS 5:17 (NLT) THIS MEANS THAT ANYONE WHO BELONGS TO CHRIST HAS BECOME A NEW PERSON. THE OLD LIFE IS GONE; A NEW LIFE HAS BEGUN! Have you ever wished you could live a different life? What would you change about your life if you could change anything where you live, what you look like, how much money you have, where you go to school or work, etc.? When we become new people by belonging to Christ, what do you think that means? What changes about us? Brainstorm as a family what life would be like without Jesus in your lives & why you think it s better with him.

WEEK TWO TIMOTHY 1:7 (NLT) FOR GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR & TIMIDITY, BUT OF POWER, LOVE, & SELF-DISCIPLINE. What kinds of circumstances make you feel afraid? Where do you think that fear comes from? How do you think God wants you to feel? Can you give an example of a time you were afraid of something & it turned out to be nothing to worry about? Can you give an example of a time you were fearful & God showed you in the middle of that situation that he loved you & was looking out for you? Take a moment to pray for each member of your family that God will help them overcome the things that make them feel afraid & that they would be more aware that God is with them at all times.

WEEK TWO JAMES 4:8 (NLT) - COME CLOSE TO GOD AND HE WILL COME CLOSE TO YOU. What kinds of things make you feel close to your family members? What kinds of things make you feel distant or disconnected from your family members? When is it important for us to give each other space? What makes you feel close to God? What makes you feel far away from him? Do you think it s different things for different people? Why? Schedule a one-on-one date night with each member of your family. Plan to do something fun together that you both enjoy. Before you end the night, do something to connect with God. Pray together, listen to a worship song, read a passage from the Bible, etc. Be creative!

WEEK TWO PROVERBS 28:1 (NLT) - THE WICKED RUN AWAY WHEN NO ONE IS CHASING THEM, BUT THE GODLY ARE AS BOLD AS LIONS. When you do something you re not proud of, do you ever run & hide or cover it up or blame other people for what happened? Can you think of a bad habit or a bad attitude that you tend to make excuses for? What would look like to be bold enough to admit where you re wrong & work on things you know aren t good for your family? Consider asking your family if they can think of any bad habits or attitudes that you make excuses for. Do your best to resist becoming defensive (to run away). Be bold and listen carefully to what they have to say, trying to understand it from their perspective. Tell them one way you are going to face that bad habit or attitude head on, and change it for the better.

WEEK TWO MARK 12:29-31 (NLT) - JESUS REPLIED, THE MOST IMPORTANT COMMANDMENT IS THIS: LISTEN, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS THE ONE AND ONLY LORD. AND YOU MUST LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, ALL YOUR SOUL, ALL YOUR MIND, AND ALL YOUR STRENGTH. THE SECOND IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. NO OTHER COMMANDMENT IS GREATER THAN THESE. Why do you think Jesus said these two commandments are the most important? Do you think our family is good at loving each other like we love ourselves? What is one way you can love yourself better? What is one way you can show more love to the rest of the family? What s the hardest way for you to show love: giving compliments, doing chores, giving hugs, giving gifts, or doing long activities together? Have each person in the family share what makes them feel the most loved. Draw names out of a hat. Find a creative way to show the person you drew love in the way they like to be shown love most.

WEEK THREE ACTS 2:44 46 (NLT) - AND ALL THE BELIEVERS MET TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE AND SHARED EVERYTHING THEY HAD. THEY SOLD THEIR PROPERTY & POSSESSIONS AND SHARED THE MONEY WITH THOSE IN NEED. THEY WORSHIPED TOGETHER AT THE TEMPLE EACH DAY, MET IN HOMES FOR THE LORD S SUPPER, & SHARED THEIR MEALS WITH GREAT JOY & GENEROSITY What kinds of things do you share with other people? Who are the people you share the most with? Why? What makes sharing fun? Who outside of our family helps you to be a more caring, sharing person? Why? Have each person choose one friend who has been a positive influence in their life to invite over for dinner. Take time during that dinner to tell them you really appreciate the kind of person they are & the kind of person they help you to be.

WEEK THREE ROMANS 12:18 (NLT) ALL THAT YOU CAN TO LIVE IN PEACE WITH EVERYONE. How do you calm yourself down when you re really mad? Is it possible to hurt someone without meaning to? What should we do when this happens? Can you think of a time when you were mean to someone because they were mean to you? What could we do when someone does something mean to us instead of being mean back? Pick one person in your family to ask, What s something I ve done to hurt your feelings recently? Then take time to own what you did & apologize for how it hurt them & let them know you love them.

WEEK THREE MATTHEW 7:3-4 (NLT) AND WHY WORRY ABOUT A SPECK IN YOUR FRIEND S EYE[C] WHEN YOU HAVE A LOG IN YOUR OWN? HOW CAN YOU THINK OF SAYING TO YOUR FRIEND, LET ME HELP YOU GET RID OF THAT SPECK IN YOUR EYE, WHEN YOU CAN T SEE PAST THE LOG IN YOUR OWN EYE? Why is it so easy to focus on someone else s mess ups instead of your own? What would happen if you focused on working to get better in areas where you don t do what s right instead of thinking & talking about how other people could be better? Do you think there are thinks about you that other people find frustrating that you re not even aware of? Does it make you nervous to ask them what they are? Why? What do you think would happen? Have each person in the family share what they think might be a log in their own eye. Thank them for admitting this and pray together as a family that God will help your family have the courage to face your shortcomings before trying to help others fix theirs.

WEEK THREE MATTHEW 5:43 (NLT) YOU HAVE HEARD THE LAW THAT SAYS, LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR & HATE YOUR ENEMY. BUT I SAY, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES! PRAY FOR THOSE WHO PERSECUTE YOU! Do you ever treat the people in your family like they re enemies? How? Why? When you treat someone like an enemy, how do you think that makes them want to treat you in return? What are some ways you show love to other people when they re treating you poorly & you start to feel like doing something to make them feel how you feel? Have everyone write down a chore or task they don t really like doing around the house, then have everyone offer to take one task of someone else s hands, so everyone is helping each other out & showing love by serving each other.

WEEK THREE ROMANS 12:5B (NLT) - SINCE WE ARE ALL ONE BODY IN CHRIST, WE BELONG TO EACH OTHER & EACH OF US NEEDS ALL THE OTHERS. What would our family be like if we never spent time with anyone outside our family (friends from school, people from church, etc.)? Would that be good or bad? How would we be different people without any outside influence at all? How have people outside our family helped our family to be better people & closer to God & one another? How does going to church make a difference in our family? What do you love most about our church? Have each person write a note to someone from church who s had a positive impact on their life. Take time to be specific & detailed about what about them has helped, encouraged or inspired you. Mail it to them or hand it to them in person next time you see them at church.

WEEK THREE PHILIPPIANS 2:3-4 (NLT) - N T BE SELFISH; N T TRY TO IMPRESS OTHERS. BE HUMBLE, THINKING OF OTHERS AS BETTER THAN YOURSELVES. N T LOOK OUT ONLY FOR YOUR OWN INTERESTS, BUT TAKE AN INTEREST IN OTHERS, TOO. Can you think of a time when you were trying to impress other people? What did you do? Can you think of a time when you did something for someone else because you cared about them even though it wasn t your favorite activity? What was that like? How did it make you feel? How do you think it made the other person feel? Do you think people in your family do things they don t always like to do for you because they love you? Like what? Take turns sharing about something you really care about or are interested in right now. Listen carefully to one another. Ask questions about each other s interests to try & learn more about the things they like.

WEEK THREE ROMANS 12:15 (NLT) - BE HAPPY WITH THOSE WHO ARE HAPPY, AND WEEP WITH THOSE WHO WEEP. Have you ever felt lonely, sad or like other people didn t understand you? When? Why? What kinds of things make you sad? When you are sad, what is helpful for people to do for you to show you they love you & support you? Do you need space? Encouragement? Do you want to talk, vent, or find solutions? Do you like to do something to take your mind off it? When something amazing happens in your life, what do you like to do to celebrate? Who are 3 people outside our family do you most like to talk, laugh & celebrate with? Why? Pick one of the ways a member of your family likes to celebrate & do that activity together for no reason. Before you start, take a moment to pray together, asking God to show you ways that you can be there for each other.

WEEK FOUR COLOSSIANS 3:13 (NLT) MAKE ALLOWANCE FOR EACH OTHER S FAULTS, AND FORGIVE ANYONE WHO OFFENDS YOU. REMEMBER, THE LORD FORGAVE YOU, SO YOU MUST FORGIVE OTHERS. When you mess up, how do you want people to respond? Do you ever wish the people around you were perfect? Why? What would that look like? Do you think that will ever happen? What does it mean to make allowance for each other s faults? When someone does something you don t like, is it easy for you to let go of & move on, or do you think about it for a long time? How do you think you could practice being more forgiving? Take turns praying for someone who you find frustrating. Ask God to help you love this person like He loves them.

WEEK FOUR HEBREWS 12:11 (NLT) NO DISCIPLINE IS ENJOYABLE WHILE IT IS HAPPENING IT S PAINFUL! BUT AFTERWARD THERE WILL BE A PEACEFUL HARVEST OF RIGHT LIVING FOR THOSE WHO ARE TRAINED IN THIS WAY. Do you like being able to do things on your own? Do you think you d be as good at the things you re good at if no one took the time to teach you how to do them in the first place? Why? Is it hard for you to practice something over & over again before you get good at it? Why? What have you learned in the past that has taken discipline to learn, get good at, or see results from? Have each person in the family share a big goal they hope to achieve in the next year. Brainstorm ways you can help each other achieve these goals.

WEEK FOUR CORINTHIANS 12:12 (NLT) THE HUMAN BODY HAS MANY PARTS, BUT THE MANY PARTS MAKE UP ONE WHOLE BODY. SO IT IS WITH THE BODY OF CHRIST. Why do you think God made everyone unique & special? How can others help us become the people God made us to be? Who is someone outside our family who is very different from you, but consistently helps you toward your goals? What other families do you think we should spend more time around because the more we re around them, the more we tend to think & act like the kind of people God wants us to be? Plan a get-together with a family who has made your family better. On that outing, tell them that you appreciate them. Think about surprising them with a small gift of some kind.

WEEK FOUR ROMANS 12:10 (NLT) LOVE EACH OTHER WITH GENUINE AFFECTION, AND TAKE DELIGHT IN HONORING EACH OTHER. What does it mean to honor someone? Can you give an example of a time you saw someone honored really well? Is it easy or hard for you to honor people in our family? How would you like to be honored? Who s someone you think deserves to be honored more than they are? Think about how you can honor each person in your family. Surprise them by doing so when they least expect it.

WEEK FOUR JAMES 1:5 (NLT) - IF YOU NEED WISM, OUR GENEROUS GOD, & HE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU. HE WILL NOT REBUKE YOU FOR ING. Do you feel like you can tell God anything? Do you ever feel like God expects you to always know & do the right thing? Why or why not? When you feel overwhelmed & don t know what to do, what s your immediate reaction? Who do you usually ask for help with home stuff, school stuff, life stuff, work stuff? Why do you think God invites us to ask him for wisdom? What are some ways God gives us His wisdom? Have everyone write down one area in their life where they need God s wisdom. Put that scrap of paper under your pillow. When you go to sleep at night. Take time to ask God to show you what to do.

WEEK FOUR COLOSSIANS 3:12 (NLT) - SINCE GOD CHOSE YOU TO BE THE HOLY PEOPLE HE LOVES, YOU MUST CLOTHE YOURSELVES WITH TENDERHEARTED MERCY, KINDNESS, HUMILITY, GENTLENESS, AND PATIENCE. What do each of the traits listed mean? Does anyone in your family demonstrate those things in their life? Who? Which ones? How? How do you think God demonstrates these traits to you? What is the opposite of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness & patience? Have you demonstrated any of those things recently? What kinds of things can we do as a family to cultivate more mercy, kindness, humility gentleness & patience in our lives? Take a moment to pray together asking God to help you demonstrate these traits to one another.

WEEK FOUR JAMES 1:19 (NLT) - UNDERSTAND THIS, MY DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS: YOU MUST ALL BE QUICK TO LISTEN, SLOW TO SPEAK, AND SLOW TO GET ANGRY. What kinds of things make you mad real fast? When you re with your favorite people, do you think you talk or listen more? Do you tell more of your own stories or ask more questions? What does it mean to be quick to listen? Do you ever jump to conclusions & get mad about things before you have all the information? What could you do to remind yourself on a consistant basis to be slow to speak & slow to get angry? Have every person in the family write this verse out on a piece of paper and tape it to their bathroom mirror. Every time you read the verse, take a moment to pray that God will help it to be true of you.

WEEK FIVE PSALM 139:7-10 (NLT) I CAN NEVER ESCAPE FROM YOUR SPIRIT! I CAN NEVER GET AWAY FROM YOUR PRESENCE! IF I GO UP TO HEAVEN, YOU ARE THERE; IF I GO WN TO THE GRAVE, YOU ARE THERE. IF I RIDE THE WINGS OF THE MORNING, IF I DWELL BY THE FARTHEST OCEANS, EVEN THERE YOUR HAND WILL GUIDE ME, AND YOUR STRENGTH WILL SUPPORT ME. Is there anything new you had to do that you felt totally unprepared for? What was it? How did you get through it? Was there anyone in particular that helped you through that time? How? Does it help you to know that God is always with you? Why? Can you think of a way God has guided our family to where we are now? Brainstorm all the places each person in your family has to go. School, work, a friend s home, etc. Every time you think of a place say this sentence, God will guide, strengthen, & support you when you are (i.e. at work, at school, at the gym).

WEEK FIVE CORINTHIANS 10:13 (NLT) THE TEMPTATIONS IN YOUR LIFE ARE NO DIFFERENT FROM WHAT OTHERS EXPERIENCE. AND GOD IS FAITHFUL. HE WILL NOT ALLOW THE TEMPTATION TO BE MORE THAN YOU CAN STAND. WHEN YOU ARE TEMPTED, HE WILL SHOW YOU A WAY OUT SO THAT YOU CAN ENDURE. What is temptation? What are some things you re tempted to do? What do you do fight temptation in those areas? Does it work? What makes it easier to give in? Do you think God helps you to fight temptation? How? Have each person share a bad influence (person, practice, place) in their life when it comes to a temptation that s particularly an issue right now. Pray for each other to avoid that thing this week to see what happens.

WEEK FIVE EXODUS 34:6B (NLT) YAHWEH! THE LORD! THE GOD OF COMPASSION AND MERCY! I AM SLOW TO ANGER AND FILLED WITH UNFAILING LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS. When you think of God, what are the first things that come to mind? Be completely honest. Do any of these things conflict with the way God is described in this verse? How so? What experiences have led you to think of God in these ways? In what ways have you experienced God s unfailing love for you? In what ways have you experienced God s faithfulness to you? Have each person in the family think of one way God has been faithful to them. After each person shares, take a moment to thank God for who he is & for the ways he has shown his unfailing love to your family.

WEEK FIVE ROMANS 8:38-39 (NLT) AND I AM CONVINCED THAT NOTHING CAN EVER SEPARATE US FROM GOD S LOVE. NEITHER DEATH NOR LIFE, NEITHER ANGELS NOR DEMONS, NEITHER OUR FEARS FOR TODAY NOR OUR WORRIES ABOUT TOMORROW NOT EVEN THE POWERS OF HELL CAN SEPARATE US FROM GOD S LOVE. NO POWER IN THE SKY ABOVE OR IN THE EARTH BELOW INDEED, NOTHING IN ALL CREATION WILL EVER BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD THAT IS REVEALED IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD. How is the love of God revealed in Jesus? What did Jesus do to show us how powerful God s love is for us? How can God s love for us help us to love one another? Does knowing how much Jesus sacrificed to love us make it any easier to sacrifice to love those in your family? Why or why not? Cut out a strip of paper for every member of your family. Have each member write out this week s memory verse on their strip. Link the strips together to make a chain and hang it somewhere in your house. Every time you look at it, take a moment to remember that nothing can separate your family from God s love.

WEEK FIVE THESSALONIANS 5:11 (NLT) - S O ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER AND BUILD EACH OTHER UP, JUST AS YOU ARE ALY ING. What kinds of things make you feel the most encouraged? Do you love it when someone gives you a gift that shows they are thinking of you? Do you like spending time together? Do you want a big hug? Do you want someone to help you with something you need to get done? Do you want someone to speak affirming words to you? What makes you feel most special, loved & noticed? Write everyone s name down on a slip of paper and put it in a bowl. Take turns drawing a name out of the bowl. Write an encouraging message to the person you got and hide that message somewhere you know they will find it.

WEEK FIVE ZEPHANIAH 3:17 (NLT) - FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS LIVING AMONG YOU. HE IS A MIGHTY SAVIOR. HE WILL TAKE DELIGHT IN YOU WITH GLADNESS. WITH HIS LOVE, HE WILL CALM ALL YOUR FEARS. HE WILL REJOICE OVER YOU WITH JOYFUL SONGS. What are three of your absolute favorite things (besides names of family members)? How does it make you feel to know God loves you even more than you love those things? Why do you think God loves you so much? How does he show you? Do you think you notice his love? Does his love for you make you less afraid or nervous? See if you can memorize each of the three favorite things of each of your family members. At dinner the following night, go around the room & test your memory.

WEEK FIVE CORINTHIANS 13:4-6 (NLT) - LOVE IS PATIENT AND KIND. LOVE IS NOT JEALOUS OR BOASTFUL OR PROUD OR RUDE. IT ES NOT DEMAND ITS OWN WAY. IT IS NOT IRRITABLE, AND IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF BEING WRONGED. IT ES NOT REJOICE ABOUT INJUSTICE BUT REJOICES WHENEVER THE TRUTH WINS OUT. What are some of the unique ways our family shows each other love? Do you ever make a list in your head of all the things certain family members have done that made you mad or hurt your feelings? Do you ever make a list in your head of all the things certain family members have done to make you feel special? What can we do as a family to help each other make the right kinds of lists about each other in our heads? Write out this week s memory verse on a piece of paper and have everyone in the family sign their name around the words. Post the paper on your refrigerator or frame it for your wall.
