2 5 Steps to Happiness No Matter What s Going On I wonder what will change in your life when you practice these steps daily! Ask for moments in your day to feel happy. It may start with one moment where you give a hug to your husband or wife. It may start with a Sunday at the beach. Begin to ask your life to have more of those moments in it. Begin with a check into your own well-being. How well are you today? On a happiness scale of 1 to 10, 10 being gloriously happy, how are you being? Give it a number, quick, without thinking. You can ask yourself to experience more happiness in every waking moment. Are you asking enough of yourself? When you find a penny, get happy. When a loved one smiles at you, get HAPPY about it. We take so many things for granted. Your cat sits on your lap and purrs. Your favorite author releases a new book. Your grown child calls you, out of the blue. Stop and get happy about small things. Happiness is like a muscle! Exercise it daily! 5 Steps to Happiness Page 2
3 Remember your strength. In a quiet space, clear your mind and remember a time when you experienced a sense of peace, joy, happiness, wonder, delight. When was that, in your life? One moment. Get the energy of that moment again, now. Below (or on a separate paper or journal), write brief notes here about that moment. Describe your experience, what you were seeing, what you were hearing, what you were tasting (if anything). Get into it! 5 Steps to Happiness Page 3
4 Choose something to be in awe about. Watch a toddler if you need to remember awe. I was in a bank and a grandpa was toting his two-year-old grandson. The boy was in absolute awe of the lobby. He was wide-eyed, exploring, making sense of everything around him. Be in awe of a sunrise. Choose to feel wonder about something, right now. Throughout your day today, create a feeling of awe inside yourself. Write your notes here: 5 Steps to Happiness Page 4
5 Note: This one is the BIG one. If you don t have time for any other steps, take this one and knock it out of the ball park. Forgive all the people in your life with a wide blanket of forgiveness. Realize forgiveness does as much for you as for anyone else on the planet. I have had friends say, "I just cannot forgive my father. He neglected me." Inside of happiness there is not room for blame or judgment. Appreciate that you are at the core of a unique experience (life) and you play the starring role. PLUS, you are the director and producer. In your life (your play) you can choose forgiveness. If you cannot forgive every person in your life, forgive one instance of negative experience. Forgive one instance or one person who was mean to you, right now. Ask yourself to have a forgiving mind. When you forgive, this gives you freedom and peace. It genuinely frees up space inside you so you can experience more life. When you get free from petty thoughts you can think bigger, brighter and more beautiful thoughts. Give happiness room to be in your life. 5 Steps to Happiness Page 5

7 Ask for divine guidance to lift you up into a higher level of being. Ask for it. Know that wherever you are, any level at all, light, love and happiness can lift you higher. Stretch the boundaries of how much love you can feel in your heart. Accept joy in your birth, accept joy in your pure existence on the planet. Accept that you are more than you are, a tiny fraction of the great spirit and being you are. Allow divine to sink in and send you healing. Write your notes here: 5 Steps to Happiness Page 7
8 Picture a thermometer dropping down out of the sky and floating in front of you. Let it scale to 100. Ask yourself for a quick answer: Where are you on the happiness scale? How hot? Don t question or judge the answer. Let the answer just be there. Let's say the number that shows up is 64. Now, picture the thermometer getting heated up in the sun. Send it golden light energy. Fill it full of warmth and happiness. Edge it up, bit by bit, until it gets as high as it is willing to go. NOW! Smash it to bits! (It's OK, it is an imaginary thermometer). Next, drop a new thermometer in front of your mind's eye. Ask it to tell you your happiness. How hot is your happiness now? 74? 85? Do this daily and you can get your experience of happiness higher, higher, and higher without doing any other thing. Miraculous! Write your observations here: 5 Steps to Happiness Page 8
