1 ORDER OF EXPERIENCE LEADERS NOTES Check-In There will not be an in-room close. After this week s episode of Life of Tyler plays, simply transition the students into their groups. Countdown Video Intro / Emcee Welcome Game Worship When group time is up, transition students back to the video screen where there will be an emcee on video that will close out the experience. After the salvation message video: If students want to respond have them talk to a leader but make sure they communicate with their parents about the decision they want to make. 2 GAME Right or Wrong The Point Sometimes it s easy to spot a flaw; sometimes it s harder. It s important to learn what s actually right or wrong in our families so that we can learn to follow after the good things, and learn to avoid making the same mistakes as our families too. Who will play? Everyone What do we need? -ProPresenter images -Right or Wrong answer sheet (1 per student) -Pen or Pencil (1 per student) How do we play? 1. Pass out an answer sheet and a pen or pencil to each student. 2. Have your tech display the images one at a time, but go fairly quickly. Only stay on each image for about 15 seconds. 3. Students must try to immediately decide if there is a grammatical error or misspelling in each sentence. If there is an error, they can write down the correct word. If it s correct, they can write correct. 4. Students write down their answer as fast as they can. 5. Go over the answers together on screen when you re all done. 6. Say: We had a little fun trying to spot errors quickly today. Does anyone have any idea what this has to do with our family life? (Families all make mistakes. It s important not to copy mistakes. We can help correct mistakes our family members make! We can avoid making the same mistakes too.) QUESTIONS 1. What did you think about this week s episode of Life of Tyler? What did you like about it? What didn t you like about it? What stood out to you? 2. What do you want to be when you grow up? Why do you want to do that? 3. What s something you like about your family that you would like to keep with you for the rest of your life? Why? 4. What are some things you would want to do differently from your family as you grow up? Why? 5. Do you think good kids come from good families and bad kids come from bad families? Why do or why don t you think that? 6. Who are you now because of your family? Why do you think that? 7. Open up your Bible or Bible App and read Proverbs 22:6 together. 8. What s happening in this verse? What is it talking about? What does it all mean? How can you apply it to your family situation? 9. How can you make sure that you become all the things you like about your family and don t become the things you don t like? Read through the challenge cards and encourage each student to follow through and complete theirs this week. Remind them to get it signed and bring it back next week. TRANSITION OUT OF VIDEO Well, we saw that our families determine who we are now and who we will become in the future--both good and not-so-good. As you start to head into your groups, think about they ways you want to be like the people in your family and the ways you want to do things differently. Head into your groups and start to talk about that.

3 LIFE OF TYLER//WEEK 7//YOUR FAMILY YOUR FUTURE INTRO I know your future is far off and you have so much going on in your life right now. But I want you to do something for a minute. We are all going to jump into a time machine and set it to the future. You ready? Get in now! Close your eyes seriously close your eyes. Bam! We re in the future. Keep your eyes closed. With them closed I want you to envision what your family will look like when you re older. Not like the family you have now. I m talking like you re the mom or dad and you have kids yourself. When you think of that do you picture a family that is yelling and screaming at each other, kids who don t listen a family that is just in chaos or do you picture a family that loves each other, that has fun together, and spends time together. Okay open your eyes. What you need to know is that your family right now will define who you are now and who you ll become in the future. So let s see how this plays out in this week s episode of LIFE OF TYLER. CLOSE Well this week we saw a little bit more into Jimmy Hinkle s story. It seemed like he came from a really rough family. It was obvious that his dad was very tough on him and didn t treat him the best. Now Tyler on the other hand comes from this pretty good family and seems to have a good relationship with both his parents. Both Tyler and Jimmy are products of their environment. Meaning: who they are and who they ve become are because of their family situation. Jimmy Hinkle let his tough family situations determine who he became a bully, right? So let me ask you a question do you think that we act out of what our family situations are like? Do bad kids come from bad families and good kids come from good families? Here s the answer only if we let it. Our families do define who we become both positively and negatively. But we choose to let it determine how we act. If you come from tough family situations, you have a choice to make. You can either choose to let it impact you negatively or find positive examples of how to become who God wants you to be. But here s the thing it s not just good enough to be like I ll never be like my mom, dad, sibling. It s not good enough because we become and act out what we know and what s familiar to us. In order to become who we need to be, we need to find those positive examples HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS ANALOGY. I didn t grow up in a Christian home. But when I was a teenager I became a Christian. But since I didn t have a Christian home, I had to find examples of what Christian families looked like. So I would hang out with my friends whose families were Christian and I saw what it looked like and now I know how to live that out in my own life. If you come from a great family, make sure that you pay attention to what you love so much about your family and be those things to other people. Let it shape and mold who you become. Proverbs 22:6 says Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Now I know this is a passage directed to parent about their kids. But what I m telling you is that you can choose to live out the right path regardless of what your family looks like. You can be the one to determine how you act toward others now and who you ll become in your future.

4 So seek out the right path, the Godly path, so that you can be who God intends you to be right now and so that you will continue to be who He wants you to be for your future.
