3 1. Make a list. Make a list of 3 10 good things you have accomplished in your life. Honestly, it makes no difference how old or how new these are. If you want to list an item from primary school list it. If you had a great week at work last month, list those things. They don t have to be hard things you spent hours grinding out. Just things that you are glad you accomplished. Hint: make a list of things you actually did not things you stopped doing or didn t do. For instance, if an item is a success about changing your eating habits, word it this way: Ate smaller than usual portions at each meal yesterday. Instead of something like: Did not eat like a pig, LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY. (caps for emphasis)
4 2. Pay attention to what you eat. When you pay attention to what you eat by taking a moment to be grateful before you begin or simply relax and enjoy what you are eating or think about how good you feel now, you are making a conscious observation of your life. Just being present during mealtime changes your outlook on life in that moment. Even though, you re a grownup now, the memory of receiving praise for eating still shines in your heart. It s fun, simple, and best of all lets you enjoy the confidence that comes with taking care of yourself.
5 3. Make your living space cleaner and more comfortable. Making your living space a more pleasant place to be changes your perspective on your life. Nobody is talking about taking a toothpick to the screw heads that hold the covers on your light switches just something beyond what you usually do. Got a coffee cup that insists on leaving rings on your desk or table? Pick it up and wipe off the surface underneath. You are enjoying your coffee now, no need to bring back the memories of coffee times past. Little things you do during the day to watch out for your personal comfort add up to making you feel like your life is important and that s the basis of self-confidence.
6 4. Do one thing you ve been procrastinating about. It truly doesn t matter whether it s a big or small thing, procrastinating tends to make things look much bigger than they are in reality. The more you wait, the bigger the task becomes. Confident people rely on their sense of assigning importance to things. The more you wait, the more important the thing you are waiting to do becomes. Do one thing now. And give yourself a gold star if you like.
7 5. Do something nice for somebody else. Doing something nice for another person shows you and the world that you have the confidence to move out of your comfort zone. Besides that, when you are feeling self-confident, it s easy to be kind to others. When you do this on purpose, it might feel a bit odd (not saying you re not nice, just talking about doing this mindfully). But in fact the world opens up to you in direct proportion to your generosity of spirit. And your generosity of spirit shows the world how confident you are inside. Win- win, for sure.
8 6. Let it go. Letting it go may seem counterintuitive at first. We work so hard to accumulate things and experiences. This is what we ve been taught. But in fact, it s having what you need or want when you need or want it that counts. You don t need to buy warehouse store sized amount of everything to feel secure in your life because when you are feeling selfconfident, you know you can count on everything being taken care of in the right place and at the right time, in the right way. Letting it got doesn t mean you have to throw everything away. It just means that you don t need excess possession or relationships to feel good about yourself. Keep what you need, let the other things go.
9 7. Imagine it first. Imagining or seeing what might be possible in your mind s eye is an awesome way to feel confident. When you are making a plan, whether it s for your day or week or year or retirement, it is much simpler to think about what this might be like before you show up there in person. Now, in fact, things might not line up exactly the way you imagined them when you get to where you are going, but the person with a plan or an expectation of circumstances is much better prepared to handle what is happening then the person who has never thought about what might happen as a result of a personal choice.
10 8. Give yourself permission. When you give yourself permission to take care of yourself without needing to ask anyone else if this would be OK, you have made a great step toward true self confidence. Mind you, we re not talking about becoming an egotistical dufus here, only that you are at least as important as anyone else in the world; and as such, deserving of good in your life. There is no need to apologize for being the authentic person that you are. Interestingly enough, most people are alright with you acting as your true self. So if you just make the supposition that it is going to be OK if you act the way you really are inside, then act that way, your journey toward self-confidence is going to be much shorter.
11 9. Give. So often you see advice telling you to give with no expectation of getting anything back. That s not really how life works. How it really works, is that the world is set up to return to you what your dominant thoughts and actions show. If you give to others with no expectation of getting anything in return, then that s what you ll get back - nothing. And if you give to others with the underhanded motive of only getting something back, you ll get treated that way too; people will give to you with underhanded motives. Being kind and generous with the idea that you would be willing to accept back kindness and generosity from others, will bring you back help, compliments and attention from kind hearted people who genuinely wish you well. And besides, self-confident people have lots of everything to share with others.
12 10. Hold your tongue and be kind. We live in an instant world these days with constant pressure to make comments, shares, likes and deletions. What so often happens is that people will pass along ideas (positive or negative) without thinking through them. When you have the ability to measure out your reply, to answer what you truly think, you increase your self-confidence. Granted, sometimes, a puppy pic is just a cute puppy pic, but other times, your ability to stop, take a breath, and then react (if needed) shows your heart you are in charge of yourself. That is the essence of being self-confident.
