Goal The Person Summary Card 1. While moving around on your different Tree views, and then clicking on a name, you will see a "Person Summary Card" popup. 2. This card contains all the basic information such as birth, death, and the Person ID number which is the number under the given name. 3. Note the "star" icon + Watch to the right of the Person ID number. If you click the star icon, this person will be added to your "watch list". 4. Note the three person details with small icons in front of them. They are "Sources", "Memories", and "Discussions". These are quick links to take you to that specific area on this person's Detail Page. 5. Temple ordinances show (if LDS) as the boxes. In this case, all gray means all completed. 6. In the bottom darker bar, there are two more links, one to view this person's tree, and the other to open this person's "Detail Page". Tip: If you want to keep the Pedigree page open, and wish to open the Person Page in a DIFFERENT tab, then RIGHT + Click on the Person link and select either "Open in New Tab", or "Open in New Window. This is helpful if you do not want to lose your place on one page, but wish to see more detail on another. Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 1 7
Goal 2.2 Reviewing the Person Details Tab 1. Note that the Person Page header contains much of the same information as the Summary does with the exception of an additional link called "View My Relationship". When clicked, a popup box will show you how you related to this person. The image below shows that the "Details" tab is in active mode. 2. There are 4 sections vertically presented, discussed below. 3. Note the small links just under the "Details" tab. Clicking on these links will quickly jump down the page to that section, as a shortcut. Review of the Sections on Detail Page: 1. Life Sketch: enter in a brief history of the events for this person. 2. Vital Information: this section holds the key information, such as birth name, gender, birth & death dates & locations, christening, and burial. 3. Other Information: this section allows you to add information such as variations of the name, residence, occupation, naturalization, physical description, and other custom facts. Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 2 7
4. Family: The person s name, whose page is shown, will be noted in black color. The left column shows the Husband & wife with the children listed below them. The right column shows the parents of the selected person, with their children listed below them. Review of Right Side Menus: 1.Research Help: This section will display any Record Hints, Research Suggestions, and such that are associated with this person. Click on "show details" to see more. 2.Search Records: The links in this section allow you to go to the different search pages and look for more information. Note that just because Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast are showing does NOT mean that you have set up accounts for those services. It is helpful to log in to these accounts before searching so you can view the results. If you are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have not set up those accounts, click HERE to set these up. If you are at a Family History library, you can view these services for free. (See ancestry institution) 3.Latest Changes: This section shows the most recent changes that have been made to this person. By clicking on the Show All link you will see all changes that have been made to the person. These changes can be reversed by clicking on the Restore buttons. Make sure that you have a good reason for doing so, and describe clearly why you are doing so. Remember that others are also likely working on this person as well. Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 3 7
4. Tools: Edit labels can be used to add or change a label on the top right of the person page. By clicking on edit label you will see possible labels. An example is Mormon Overland Pioneers. Some of these labels are added automatically by the system. The Possible Duplicates tool will show a number if a duplicate has been found by the system. If there is a 0 it doesn t necessarily mean there is not a duplicate, just that it hasn t been found by the system. If you have found a duplicate you can select the Merge by ID button and enter the personal ID number to merge. Should there be problems with others making malicious changes to your tree, you can Report Abuse by clicking on this link. Be civil and try to contact that person first and understand why they are changing your information. Having good sources helps to clarify any disagreements. If you put a person into Family Tree and realize the person does not exist or is a duplicate, you can delete the person. However, if there has been any ordinance work done, or sources added by others, you will not be able to do so. Typically you will be merging people with the same information. If there are other issues you can always contact FamilySearch to have them help you. 5. Print: You can print basic charts from these links, like a pedigree, fan chart, family group sheet, etc. Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 4 7
Goal 2.3 Review of other Tabs- Click on the title to open page: 1. Time Line: This page will put all events that have been associated with the life of the individual. By clicking on Show you can choose which events you want to show on the time line. This will apply to all of the individuals in your tree, not just the individual you have selected. You can choose to show a map which indicates the location of the events on the timeline if the location has been specified on the details page. 2. Sources: This section holds the citations that document where vital and other information are found. These sources validate the information above by documenting sources of information found. It a good practice to review all sources to make sure the information has been added to the details page. You may find more children or you may find a source isn t correct. 3. Collaborate: Use this section to create discussions between you and others. An example might be whether a child listed with the family, does actually belong to this family. Notes are used to add any information that doesn t fit in the other sections. This could be information like some of your research notes or you could list that someone never married. Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 5 7
Reviewing the Memories Page : 1. At the present time photos, documents, stories, and audio can be added. If photos and documents are added to an individual s page, they can be tagged so they will show on the memories section of other individuals who are shown or mentioned in a photo or document. 2. We will cover Memories in a future lesson Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 6 7
Goal 2.4 Reviewing the Temple Ordinance Status: 1. This page summarizes the status of temple work that has been completed or needs to be completed. 2. We will cover this Page in more detail near the end of our class curricula. Created by Stephen Meyers Page of 7 7
