1 1. Figure out how much you need to raise. a. Don t say all of it. You or your parents CAN pay for at least a little bit. Ask them how much they would be able to pay to send you to camp. b. Subtract that # and how much you ve already paid from $ Make a list of people you know who love you (grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends, neighbors, coaches, etc) & get their e- mail addresses. 3. Write an explaining what you hope to get out of camp and why you NEED to go Tell them the amount you are trying to raise. (not the total cost of the trip just what you need to raise) a. Ask them if they would sponsor you to go to camp (IT S TAX DEDUCTIBLE) b. They can send a check to you, the YL office, or can contact the YL office for info on how to donate online. c. Also say if they don t feel comfortable sponsoring is there anything that you can do for them to earn money (mow grass, babysit, help them move, clean their house, etc.) 4. Send and then call them a couple days later to ask if they got the . Below are a few other ideas of ways to raise money for camp this summer Young Life Organized Fundraiser :: RUMMAGE SALE :: Date & Location TBA 1. Collect items to sell from your house, neighbors, friends, etc. 2. Price your items using the YL rummage sale tags (included in this packet)- - you ll put your name on every tag. 3. Bring your items to sell at 6AM the day of the rummage sale. 4. Volunteer for two hours during the sale. 100% of what you sell goes towards your camp trip Please NO clothing, it does not sell well Any items that are not sold will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. If you want to pick up your unsold items at 1pm you can. After 1pm they will be donated If you have items that you ve priced over $10 put your phone number on the underside of the price tag so we can call you in case someone tries to barter. Some Other Ideas: 1. Sell something like an old playstation, bike, sports equipment, etc. to friends or neighbors or by using an online site (be sure to talk to your parents & do this safely). 2. Have a carwash often doing a Donation Only carwash is the most successful financially. 3. Have a bakesale go to a crowded place on a weekend (Davidson Main Street, Birkdale, etc). 4. Grab a push mower and go door to door in a neighborhood with small yards and ask if you can mow their grass to raise money to go to camp. They usually give you more than they would give you just to mow. 5. Host a babysitting party get 3-4 girls and spread the word in your neigboorhood, with your family, everywhere that you are going to have a big babysitting fundraiser. They all drop kids off for 3-4 hours and pay $20-30 per kid and hopefully you can get a bunch of kids to come and split the profit between you and the other babysitters. 6. Have a trash- a- thon. Get with your YL leader & figure out a time for the two of you to pick up trash around your school, neighborhood, local park, etc. Ask neighbors, coaches, teachers, etc. to sponsor you per bag of trash picked up. (sponsor sheet included in this packet) 7. Similarly, have a service day at your school to clean things up. Get with some friends, clear the idea with your school principal & use the flyers in this packet to help in asking for donations. 8. Run a 5K with your YL leader ask for people to donate towards you running (they could donate per mile, or for the whole 5K) as a way to help get to summer camp
