It's exciting to share your message and expertise with the world. I encourage you to believe in yourself and all that you have inside of you. Before we dive in, here's a few nuggets about how I got here...

3 ABOUT ME I am an Emmy award-winning journalist, TV anchor, speaker, and public speaking coach. For more than a decade, I've reported live on stories in various cities around the country. I've worked for nearly every outlet, including ABC and CBS affiliates. I love the storytelling process and truly feel honored to tell stories for a living. I've interviewed thousands of people and told a wide range of stories that capture the human spirit and emotional experiences, including sacrifice, honor, loss, joy and love.

4 When I'm not on-air, I've often led community forums, spoken on panels, served as the mistress of ceremonies and also, provided motivational speeches. After those events, I found audience members asking me for public speaking tips. And I began offering all the nuggets that helped me. That's how it all started. And you know what? Through those experiences, I discovered a real passion for teaching people the art of storytelling. Today, I help people breakthrough their fears of public speaking, craft their signature talk, boost their confidence and so much more.

6 TIP #1 Be Passionate The best speakers care about their topic. They are passionate about what they're saying and the audience can FEEL it. You must know your WHY. Ask yourself... Why do I care about this topic? Why am I passionate about sharing this message? 2017 All rights reserved.

7 TIP #2 Know Your Audience Find out from the organizer of the event how you can best serve the audience and their desires. What message would be of value to the audience? What is the makeup of your audience? Get clarity on why YOU are the person selected to speak All rights reserved

8 TIP #3 Practice Is Key Once you have your talk mapped out, start practicing whenever you can. It's easy to get in the mindset of 'kicking back' when you know the speech is in a couple of months. Don't procrastinate. I encourage you to practice while walking outdoors or around your house. The earlier you start practicing, the more comfortable and confident you will be on stage All rights reserved.

9 TIP #4 Get Out Of Your Head... If you're feeling anxious before your talk, it can be easy to slip into 'overwhelm-mode.' Don't make assumptions about what the audience is thinking... that can cause more anxiety. Stay focused on your message and avoid negative self-talk. When you practice, don't beat yourself up over every single slip-up. Tell yourself in an upbeat manner, "I'VE GOT THIS!" 2017 All rights reserved.

10 TIP #5 Slow Down When people are nervous, they tend to talk fast. But public speaking is not a sprint. I suggest you slow down to give people time to actually digest your message. Practice going slower than how you typically talk. Remember: You're writing for the ear and they need a moment to catch all the information All rights reserved.

11 TIP #6 Ask This Favor One of the easiest ways to get feedback is to ask a trusted friend, coach or family member to listen to your talk. Pretend like it's 'live' in front of a huge audience.
