2 MY #1 SECRET TO MAKING RESOLUTIONS STICK You know the situation, probably all too well. With champagne in hand, a list of resolutions in your mind, and mile-high hope, you toast January 1, hoping it will become the first day of a better, more fabulous you. Let me break the news gently. Studies show just 8% of people achieve their New Year s goals. Bummer, huh? Why do such noble intentions oftentimes descend into disappointment more quickly than the temperature drops in January? One of the missing links to turning resolutions into reality involves having the tools to put them into action. I might wish to lose ten pounds or connect more deeply with my sons, but unless I have concrete strategies in place to make those things happen, resolutions only become wishes. It saddens and frustrates me to see so many people fail at this type of goal setting. I want this year to be different for you. That s why I want to share a valuable tool I ve long utilized daily to help me set and more importantly, reach my loftiest goals. It s called Intentioning.
3 Here s how Urban Dictionary defines intentioning : Intentioning Term coined by modern self-help and life coaching advocates to describe the process of mentally focusing on and visualizing what you want to achieve or attain, which will purportedly make it so. Pretty much the same thing as The Secret s Law of Attraction, or the old Power of Positive Thinking. Instead of exercising regularly and losing weight, Sarah was convinced that simply intentioning the perfect body she desired was all that was necessary. When you intention something, you mentally focus on your dreams, aspirations, resolutions, and put the wheels in motion to make that happen. I want to up-level that a bit because, as awesome as that definition is, it misses one component: intentioning demands putting action behind the intention. You set the intention and then get into action! Rather than just wishing for something, you re putting a concrete goal out, creating accountability, and then taking every step possible to make your intention a reality. In other words, you re not just throwing random stuff you want or need out there and then watching it magically appear. If that worked, we would all have our resolutions! Nope, you ve got to do the work. But don t worry. I m going to show you how! I want this guide to motivate you into action. I want to get you intentioning your way to your resolutions this year!
4 Here are a few examples about how I ve used intentioning. 1 I wanted to have two boys right in a row I had Grant in April of 1996, and then Bryce May of Grant being 110% I intentioned that every day and still do 4 LOML - that s the love of my life :) The Virgin Diet $500K book advance (I got $520K), NYT bestseller was on list for 26 weeks SO HOW DID I GO ABOUT MAKING THESE THINGS HAPPEN?
5 Here s my Intentioning process: Figure out your big intention. This is your stretch goal that should excite you, inspire you, and yes, scare you a bit. Write your intention down daily. Take action about what you need to do to make that happen. So for example, let s say you want to lose weight. WRITE DOWN THAT GOAL. Be as specific as possible. I want to lose 0 pounds, be in the best shape of my life, and fit in the size I wore in high school. ACTIONS: 1. Do The Virgin Diet to uncover hidden food intolerances, and design the diet to help me lose the weight and keep it off for the long haul. 2. Find group or one-on-one support and accountability.. Make smart lifestyle modifications: Get 7-9 hours sleep every night, control stress levels, supplement smartly, etc. 4. Once you ve mastered your eating plan and other lifestyle principles, do my Fast Blasts and incorporate other maintenance rules. NOW THAT YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT INTENTIONING IS, LET S SET IT INTO ACTION AND DEFINE YOUR RESOLUTIONS!
6 First, let s reflect on last year QUESTIONS to help you learn from last year 1 What did you do well this past year that you d like to do even better this year? 2 What would you like to do more of? What would enable you to do more of the good stuff?
7 Now let s get clear on your resolutions A bad habit I m going to break: 2 A new skill I d like to learn: A person I d like to be more like: 4 A place I d like to visit: 5 An accomplishment I d like to achieve:
8 7 TIPS FOR SETTING YOUR INTENTIONS AND RESOLUTIONS THIS YEAR 1 Keep it simple and set realistic, specific goals. I will lose weight is not a specific goal. A specific goal might be I will lose 7 pounds within 0 days. Don t be afraid to push yourself a little bit here. You are capable of more than you might realize! 2 Don't wait till New Year's Eve to make resolutions. Make it a yearlong process. Intention every day. Have a coach or an accountability buddy. 4 Make it tangible. What's the one thing you can do today, right now, towards your goal? 5 Write your goals down daily. (This becomes a daily reminder or to-do list.) 6 Have fun and laugh at yourself when you slip up, but don't let the slip-up hold you back from working at your goals. 7 Believe you can do it. YOU ARE WORTHY!
