1 Student Immigration Team Student Services Centre Updated March 2018 Tier 4 Visa Overseas Application Form Guidance This guide is for students applying to come to the UK to study with the University of Manchester on a Tier 4 student visa. This guide is to assist with completing the online application form. Please use this guide in addition to the information on the University website, which includes guidance on how to apply and about the supporting documents you need to submit with the application. You must check that you have all the necessary supporting documents and that these all meet Tier 4 requirements before completing the online Tier 4 application form. You must have received a valid CAS from the University before you can apply for a Tier 4 visa. You must apply for a Tier 4 visa using this form from outside the UK. If you are in the UK and plan to apply for a Tier 4 visa from overseas you should not complete and pay for the application from the UK. You must complete and pay for the application once you have left the UK. Where to apply from? Date of application You can apply for your Tier 4 visa from the following locations:- A country you are a national of, or A country you are resident in. This means if you are living in a country in a capacity greater than as a short-term visitor, for example if you hold a study or work visa or have permanent residence status. You must not apply from a country if you are only visiting. A country that has a special agreement allowing people of your nationality to apply from there, for example if there is no embassy or visa centre in your own country. The date that you complete the online application process and pay for the application is the date that your application has officially been made (not the date of the appointment at the visa centre). If you are self-financed then your bank statements must show you have held the correct funds for 28 days in your account before the date that you pay for the application online

The University of Manchester sponsor licence number is Q3DK76WN4 Sponsor s address University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL Place of study Will you be studying at a School or higher education institution? Answer Higher education institution Primary site of study You should answer yes to confirm that you will be studying at the University of Manchester main campus. UCAS details Answer yes and include your UCAS number if you applied through UCAS specifically. If you did not apply for your course through UCAS then you should answer no. ATAS details Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) Not all students need an ATAS certificate to study their course it is only postgraduate level students who are studying certain subjects. Your CAS will state whether or not ATAS clearance is required for you to study your course. If it is required then you should apply for ATAS and wait to receive the ATAS certificate before making your visa application. You need to include your ATAS certificate with your supporting documents.

9 Sponsor Future official financial sponsor You should answer yes if you are financially sponsored for your studies by an official financial sponsor. An official financial sponsor can be a University, a government, an international organisation (like a scholarship agency) or an international company (a company with offices in more than one country). Being wholly sponsored means that your full tuition fees and living expenses (maintenance) are covered by your financial sponsor. You must receive at least 1015 per month for living expenses to be wholly sponsored. If you are wholly sponsored by The University of Manchester then this should be stated on your CAS and confirm that both your fees and living expenses are covered. You should select My Tier 4 sponsor has confirmed this information on my CAS. If you are wholly sponsored by a sponsor that is not The University of Manchester then you should include an original sponsor letter with your visa application to prove this and choose Letter of official financial sponsorship. If you are not wholly sponsored for both fees and living expenses of at least 1015 per month you should answer I am not being wholly sponsored. Please note that you must then include bank statements with your visa application in addition to your original sponsor letter to show the remaining amount of money you need. If you are only partly sponsored for living expenses then you need to show the remaining amount per month you need to make 1015 in total and multiply this by 9 months. You should read the financial guide on our website before continuing to make sure your financial evidence meets requirements.

Maintenance funds You should answer yes to this if you are self-funded and using bank statements from your own bank account. You need to answer yes to this if you are fully sponsored by an official financial sponsor as well, even though you do not need to include bank statements. If you are using a parent(s)/ legal guardian(s) bank statement for your visa application then you should answer no and answer the questions to confirm that you are using a parent(s)/ legal guardian(s) bank account, have permission to do so and can prove it with official evidence. You must include their bank statement, an original letter of consent and your original birth certificate (or adoption certificate) with your visa application along with an English translation of any documents that are not in English. Course details Course information Name of sponsor institution Answer University of Manchester Course name Answer by copying the course title exactly as it appears on your CAS. Qualification you will get Answer as follows: RQF5/ SCQF8 for a foundation course 10 RQF6/ SCQF9/10 for an undergraduate course (bachelors) RQF7/ SCQF11 for a postgraduate taught course (masters), integrated masters course (e.g. MEng or MPharm, MSci etc ) or a postgraduate research masters (e.g. MPhil or MRes) RQF8/ SCQF12 for a postgraduate research course (PhD) Do not choose Postgraduate Doctor or Dentist Course start date - Answer using the exact date as it is stated on your CAS Course end date - Answer using the exact date as it is stated on your CAS Are you going to be a student union sabbatical officer? - A student union officer is someone who has been elected to work for the student s union. If so you would have a specific CAS which confirms this. You should answer no if you are applying as a student to study a course. Accommodation payments You should only answer yes if your CAS states that you have paid any amount towards accommodation. This is only if you are staying in University-owned Halls of Residence,

otherwise it will not be included. If your CAS does show that you have paid money towards accommodation then you should select the option My sponsor has confirmed this information on my CAS Course fees Your course fee amount will be stated on your CAS. If any money has been paid towards your tuition fees then your CAS needs to show this. If your CAS does state some or all of your fees has already been paid then include this information and choose the option My sponsor has confirmed this information on my CAS Extra information Additional information about your application You should include extra information in this box if it is relevant to your application. For example if you did not have enough space in an earlier section of the form to explain something. If you are bringing dependants to the UK who are making their own Tier 4 Dependant applications at the same time as you then you should state this here and include their details and the planned date they will apply so that it is easier for UKVI to link up your applications together. If they have a reference number for their application please include this. Check your answers At the end of the application form you should check all your answers carefully before proceeding. You can change any of your answers on this page. 11

12 Documents & Declaration The Documents page will list the supporting documents you need to provide. This list will not always show you a complete list of documents you need to submit e.g. you may also need a Tuberculosis text certificate or English translations of any documents. You should check our Supporting Documents webpage before continuing to ensure that you have all the documents and these meet requirements. You must then continue with the form and click the declaration to confirm that all your answers in the form are correct. Immigration Healthcare Surcharge (IHS) The Immigration Healthcare Surcharge must be completed in order to complete and make your application for the Tier 4 visa, if you are coming to the UK for longer than 6 months. It gives you access to healthcare in the UK using the National Health Service (NHS). The charge is 150 for each student and 150 for each Dependant for each year for the duration of your immigration permission (visa) not the length of your course. If your immigration permission includes part of a year UKVI will round the cost up to either 6 months at 75 or 12 months at another 150. You pay the charge as part of the Tier 4 application process and the form will calculate how much you need to pay based on the information in your application form. You need to answer the questions in this section and then pay the calculated amount. If the form calculates an incorrect amount of money then you will either be refunded within 90 days of receiving your decision, or the caseworker should you directly with a weblink to pay more money before making a decision. You should check your s regularly.

13 BRP Collection If you are coming to the UK for over 6 months then you will need to collect your full visa when you arrive. This is called a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP card). When you apply for your visa, make sure that you enter our ACL code in the Alternative Location field in the BRP Collection Location section of the online application. Our ACL Code is 2HE372. This will allow you to collect your BRP card from the University during registration. You will be granted with a 30-day visa vignette inside your passport, which is your visa to enter the UK. You must arrange to enter the UK within that 30 day period. The earliest date that you can travel to the UK is 1 month before the start of your course. Along with your 30-day visa in your passport, you will also receive a written notification (or decision letter) informing you of where you should collect your BRP card in the UK. You must carry this letter with you when you enter the UK as you will need the letter to collect your biometric residence permit (BRP card). You will also require this letter if you need to obtain temporary registration from the University.

14 Payment & Appointment Once you have paid the Immigration Healthcare Surcharge and chosen your BRP collection location you can pay and complete the application form. The application form will show you if there are any additional services available. Your visa centre may offer a Priority Service. This means that you can pay a higher application fee to get a faster decision on your visa application. If you pay for the visa priority service you should receive a decision on your application within 3 5 working days. Some countries may have Super Priority Services, or alternatively some countries may not be able to offer any additional services. You can check how long your visa application may take on average using this webpage. The application form may then also provide you with a selection of possible appointment dates and times for your chosen visa centre. Remember that the date of your visa application is the date you pay online and not the date of your appointment at the visa centre so if you are self-financed you must have held the required money in your bank account for at least 28 days before the day you pay online. Visa Application Centre - Registration Please note that you may have to register with the Visa Application Centre separately once you have completed your visa application form online. You should check the website for your visa centre online from this webpage and check if you need to register with them separately, or if completing the online Tier 4 form is sufficient. For example if your visa centre is partnered with the company TLScontact then you must register with them before attending your visa appointment. If your visa centre is partnered with VFSGlobal then you only need to book your appointment as part of the online Tier 4 application form and do not need to register with them separately.

15 Additional Note: Low-Risk Applicants If you are a national of a low risk country and you are applying from that low risk country you do not need to submit any qualification documents such as degree certificates or transcripts as part of your Tier 4 application. You also do not need to submit any financial documents as evidence of funds such as sponsor letter or bank statements but you must ensure that you have these documents ready in case UKVI asks you to provide them. You must also ensure that you have held the correct level of funds in your bank account for 28 days before you apply. You can check if you are classed as a low risk national on the UKVI website. You must apply from your country of nationality or from the UK (if you are extending your visa) in order to be considered low risk. If you apply from a different country you are residing in then you must provide financial and academic documents with your application despite being a low risk national. If you are applying at the same time as your dependants and they are also low risk nationals you do not need to submit any financial documents for them but you will need to provide evidence of your relationship to them e.g. Original marriage certificate for your spouse or original birth certificate for each child. If these documents are not in English you need to have them translated by a professional translator and submit the original document along with the translation. Additional Note: Tier 4 Pilot for Masters Applicants The University of Manchester has been selected to join a pilot scheme for Tier 4 students applying for a Masters course which is of 13 months or less in duration. This pilot allows students to benefit from a more streamlined visa application process and permits them to remain in the UK for longer at the end of their studies. This only includes students applying for a Tier 4 visa to study a Masters (MA, MSc, MRES) degree of 13 months or less from September 2018 onwards. If you are eligible to apply for the Tier 4 pilot, you cannot opt out. You will automatically be considered under the Tier 4 pilot scheme. Additional leave - You will be granted an additional six months leave after the course end date specified on your CAS. This is will be helpful if you wish to stay on in the UK to look for work or gain work experience after you have completed your course.

A more streamlined application process - Although you are still required to meet the Tier 4 Immigration Rules, you do not need to include your financial evidence or academic qualifications when submitting your visa application. All other supporting documents, such as a TB test certificate or ATAS certificate (if required) must be submitted with your visa application. You should also ensure that you have your financial and academic evidence ready and that this meets Tier 4 requirements, as the caseworker can contact you and ask to see this. Do not submit documents as a precaution - If you choose to submit academic and or financial documents when they have not been requested then the caseworker at UKVI will consider your application based on the evidence submitted. If you do not meet the requirements then your application will be refused. 16 IMMIGRATION ADVICE AND SERVICES REGULTED BY THE IMMIGRATION SERVICES COMMISSIONER Student Immigration Team Student Services Centre Visa@manchester.ac.uk (option 1)
