This toolkit will guide you as you launch your campaign, provide sample text for your campaign communications, and inspire ideas for how to meet your fundraising goals. Your contribution will empower people everywhere to build better futures. We can t wait to get started! But don t be shy. 4 Your Game Plan CHOOSE YOUR CAMPAIGN Every campaign needs a cause what s yours? Visit give.undp.org/getstarted for starter ideas. Or, create your own campaign theme. Tip: Be inspired with ideas from our UNDP in Focus report MAKE IT FUN Put the fun into fundraising. Ask friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, and classmates to donate to your campaign:... on special occasions in lieu of wedding or birthday gifts... as you participate in athletic events like a 5K run, triathalon, or bungee jumping party... at creative gatherings, like an art show or bake sale... during the holidays; spread the goodwill during the season of giving... as part of a school-related activity, like a book sale or car wash Tip: What s your purpose? Think about why you re fundraising for UNDP and your commitment to meeting your goals

5 Three Ways to Fundraise After you select your campaign, you ll have three options: FUNDRAISE AS AN INDIVIDUAL Pick a goal, end date, create a headline and custom URL, add a profile photo and bingo: you re live! See Photos, Videos, and Stories for UNDP visual resources. JOIN A TEAM Find the name of your team or the captain and sign up to see the team s dashboard. Here, you ll be able to track and compare your progress with your fellow fundraisers. CREATE A TEAM Become a captain and customize your team page, recruit friends, coordinate outreach to donors, and much more.

6 What s Your Goal? All of the money raised by your campaign goes directly to UNDP programs, helping people around the world to build better tomorrows. What s your impact? Here are some examples from some UNDP programs: US$ 100 can purchase equipment for earthquake rubble removal US$ 500 can provide antiretroviral treatment to 100 people living with HIV US$ 1,000 can train 500 farmers on modern irrigation methods US$ 5,000 can prepare a small rural town for natural disasters like typhoons US$ 25,000 can register 5,000 people to vote Tip: Add a stretch goal to your fundraiser to keep your community engaged after reaching 100% of your initial target.

7 Your Cause in Action KICK OFF YOUR CAMPAIGN COMMUNICATIONS All great teams need a good strategy, and yours isn t any different. What s your fundraising campaign s main message? Why does this initiative matter to you? How will you reach out to your family, friends, colleagues, classmates your team to ask them to join you, donate, and cheer you on to meet your goals? Devise a plan. Then reach out, stay in touch, and stay on track! Your campaign page dashboard allows you to easily customize different s, publish periodic updates, and click-and-post to social media. Tip: Donate to your own page to show your friends and family you re dedicated to raising funds. Tip: Share your excitement in as many conversations as you can, but don t spam your supporters too much!

8 ANNOUNCE YOUR CAMPAIGN Once you ve created your page, reach out to some of your closest contacts and announce your campaign. Here s a template to jumpstart your efforts the more personalized you make it, the more meaningful to your recipients. Family and Friends, Please help me support United Nations Development Programme by making a donation through my team s fundraising page for UNDP Giving. Even a small donation will help achieve my goal! The process is fast, easy, and secure. Thanks so much for your support. [Your name] Donate to my page Next, your network and recruit new team members to join your fundraising initiative. Dear [First name], You should join my team, [Team name]! I m fundraising for Fundraising! You should join us and work together to support the United Nations Development Programme and a truly awesome cause. Let s make it happen! [Your name] Join my team

9 Then launch your campaign to the larger world and post to social. Did you know that 800 million people still live in extreme poverty? That s less than $1.25 a day. The good news is that there s hope! The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in close to 170 countries and territories, fighting poverty, providing millions of people with opportunities, working with governments to roll back inequalities, and restoring dignity for all people. Want to help? Support my campaign by making a donation -- or join the campaign team if you want to do even more! I m fighting poverty, not wrinkles, for my 35th birthday! 12 Photos, Videos, Stories What s a great story your story, of how you and your team are meeting your goals without visuals? Not every message you send about your campaign should be a donation ask. Mix it up. Communicate why this theme matters to you. Remind people why you re fundraising for UNDP. Make your messages more compelling by using photos or videos, or adding details from our UNDP in Focus report to an about why UNDP s work is so important. 13 Did You Know? PUNCHY STATS TO USE IN COMMUNICATING YOUR CAMPAIGN In 1966, one in three people worldwide lived in poverty. Now? Just one in eight. Extreme poverty has dropped to historic lows, but there are still 800 million people living on less than US$1.25 a day......and 800 million people worldwide who lack access to water. We can be the 1st generation to eliminate poverty, everywhere, by 2030 through the Global Goals. Women spend 200 million hours each day collecting clean water for their families 600 million youth live in fragile & conflict-affected areas Only 22.7% of the world s parliamentarians are women Catch more of our Numbers in Action Checklist Start your fundraising page at give.undp.org/getstarted Customize your page with photos and videos from UNDP s Storytelling Assets Include your story of what inspired you to fundraise for UNDP Make a donation to your own campaign Create and review your campaign strategy, including templates and social media posts each member of your immediate family and your three closest friends to contribute to your page Post about your activities and your fundraising page on social media your wider network contacts and ask them to support your UNDP fundraiser.
