Anne Cleveland: And I m Anne Cleveland. PJ Van Hulle: And welcome to Total Niche Clarity. We want to acknowledge you for being here because we know that there is a lot of other things you could be doing right now and you ve chosen to carve out time to invest in your marketing and success, and that s really important. The guy that wrote the Rich Dad Poor Dad book says that you get rich depending on what you do with your free time, and I don t know if we ever consider ourselves having free time, but the time that you carve out to do stuff like this ends up paying big dividends over time. So we really appreciate you being here. Today we are going to talk about three keys to making more money being you, how to easily attract the money you deserve while doing what you love, and Kendra is going to share on this call a glimpse into her payment struggle and finding her niche and what you can learn from her experience that will make it easier to find your niche. In that way, you can get on with offering from your business instead of continuing to struggle and spin your wheel. You will also learn one of the biggest mistakes that soul-centered entrepreneurs, coaches, change agent and healers make that keep you broke and stuck 2

3 and spinning your wheels, like I said, and we will also talk about how you can avoid making those mistakes. We are going to share some revealing insights that will help you become a client magnet so you can serve more of your ideal clients, the people that you really love working with faster, and we will also share the three simple keys to making more money being you. Anne, would you please introduce Kendra? Anne Cleveland: I would be happy to. So if you heard, our guest speaker today is Kendra Thornbury, and I first heard about Kendra actually on Sage Lavine s telesummit. So the telesummits are so great for learning about all the different entrepreneurs that are out there trying to help make a difference. Kendra Thornbury: Oh, thank you, Anne and PJ, and all those that are tuned in. It s so great to be here with you. PJ Van Hulle: Yehey! Anne Cleveland: Yehey, we are glad to have you. 3

4 PJ Van Hulle: Yehey! Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. Anne Cleveland: Yeah. So my first question, and it s always the first question we ask because, of course, this is a niche clarity seminar or virtual symposium, and I really would like to hear about your first niche and how that has changed over the years and then your process with finding your own niche because I know that will be so helpful for our listeners. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, yeah. Well, in terms of my beginnings, I d say, what niche? Like I was very much one of those people who entered into business feeling very on purpose and feeling passionate about changing the world, so my perspective on doing work was very broad. My initial business, my initial site says that I was helping people be alive. So it s very true for me still. Behind the curtains, so to speak, I m very clear that that s one of my passions. It s that I want to help ignite and enliven and help people really touch in with that aliveness that I think is really our birthrights and our natural state, but that doesn t mean anything to anyone, and so my first really two years of business, I very much struggled. I did one of those things that I think a lot of people do in business, especially I d say women. I tend to work more or I do work more with women so I tend to know their struggles a bit more, but I did that thing where I took it personally, and I thought, Oh no, nobody likes me. Nobody really gets me. Nobody really wants what I have to offer, and I see healers and coaches do that all the time. It s like we take it personally and we think, Oh-oh, maybe I need another degree. Maybe I need another credential. I can t tell you how many offers and people with Master s degrees and credentials and PhD s like they are not getting business and they think it s because they need more expertise, which to me is one of the mistakes that I ll be getting into a little bit later. But I just very much have been investing in my own growth personally, spiritually, and business-wise and I was determined to really make my dreams fly. Like I knew I 4

5 wanted to be one of these people that was finding my dream lifestyle, that was living a freedom-based lifestyle congruent with my values and what matters most to me. So as tempting as it was to give in, in those initial stage to the voices that said, Oh, you are really not being practical. You should get a secured job. I don t know about you guys, but I certainly had a lot of those influences. I really stuck to it, and I invested a lot of time and money and marketing mentors and I started to really explain what is this niche thing, and I had resistance to it and partly it was because I want, as a woman and I see this again with a lot of women, is we don t want to leave anybody out. We are very relationship oriented, and when I started doing that exploration and drilling in, honing in, what is that niche? What is that sweet spot? How can I serve in a unique way that distinguishes me in the market and really reflects what I love? All of these parts of the equation, like I had so much resistance because I felt bad about leaving people out. The other thing which I see is a very typical is that when you are choosing niche you actually are letting yourself be more seen. So I also had to go through my own terror around, Wow, if I start seeing this is who I am, this is what I m doing, then people are going to start to see me and a lot of women, in particular, have visibility issues that surface. So I m just sharing you some of the fears that I needed to break through to allow myself to land, but really it was imperative because the bottom line with business is that if you don t have clients, it means you are not making money, then you don t have a business, right? Anne Cleveland: Right. Kendra Thornbury: It s like you either have a hobby or a dream or you need to go back to a job. So I was willing to do whatever it took and that meant getting through my own resistances and taking the time to get through the messy breakthroughs, and long story short, I would say one of the greatest ways that I was able to hone in on what I m doing now which is that I work with soul-centered women entrepreneurs and I help them create a financial freedom so that they have a greater impact to make more 5

6 money while being true to who they are, and all of those components are elements of my own journey. One of the things when I m working with my clients is that the things that we look at in our own lives as the struggles and the pains and the places that we would be like, Oh, I don t know that I would want anybody to know that about my journey, those are actually very revealing and illuminating places for your niche. So one of my greatest pains and struggles has been around money as a spiritually centered person, there were many years that I was like, Oh, I can t have money and be spiritual, and that s a very typical mindset of my clients. So either they have a lot of money and it s void of meaning and they really want to have greater depth or soul in their business, or they are just getting by and they don t know how to break that glass ceiling or move up to six figures and beyond because they feel like it s going to compromise their spiritual principles or values. So I really have learned a lot about what it takes to create or reinvent an entire an entirely new mindset and understand that they actually complement each other, they actually are allies to each other, the spiritual and the material, and so once I got all this for myself, like women started asking me about it. So if you would ask me four or five years ago if I would have been teaching wealth within, if I would have been teaching like my course, The Medicine of Money, which is all about reinventing your relationship with money, I will laugh at you because I thought, I m still trying to figure out how to not make my checkbook bounce. But it s those places that once you really claim your niche and the powerful thought, your sweet spot as I like to call it, of your soul, like you get that all of those trials and tribulations have actually been guiding you to serve others who really have had the same pains and struggles. So I m just going to pause there because I know I could talk about so many different tracks, but if you have any questions or want to respond. PJ Van Hulle: Well, what I d like to look at is like, I guess, what helped you get clear and as you got clearer on your niche, what did you noticed that doing for your business? 6

7 Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, so what helped me get clear I think were a variety of stages in my practice, but I d say bottom line it was me deciding to not live in struggle anymore, like I really didn t like the feeling of having this purpose inside me and wanting to help more people and yet not being able to have the leverage to really do it to gain that attraction, and I think when it comes to serving more people, making more money, decision is really the key factor like you have to one hundred percent all the way be in and then everything else flows from there, and then in terms of I m sorry, what was the second part of your question? PJ Van Hulle: Well, when you got more clear on your niche, what did you notice happening in your business as a result? Kendra Thornbury: Oh yeah, duh, thank you. Business, business, business. It was like the ease and the flow of clients coming in, it astounded me. It was like that feeling that I know so many people have that sounds like you are always on that edge of like, Oh, I just feel like it s coming. Something is going to happen. And then that happened for me, it just clicked and so people come to me. They seek me out. I don t have to try. I don t have to convince. I don t have to force it. There is, there is some magnetism, and not only that, it s a magnetism of my perfect dream ideal clients. Every day, I feel so blessed and I m working with people that I want to be engaged with, and I don t know for some people, it s like, Well, that s sounds to be elementary. But I know especially in the beginning stages of business that a lot of people compromise and they take clients that may not be the ideal match. I was just talking with a client recently where she s building her business and really allowing herself to move to that next stage, and she has one client that she just can t stand and yet she s just still holding on for the fear of losing the money. So we can all get to that stage where we are thriving and flourishing in our businesses through total niche clarity and be in that ideal of like spending time every each and every day with people that you love and adore and the same. It was like it was so freeing for me initially when I was just working with my ideal client because I wasn t trying to be anything anymore. Do you know what I mean? It s like I just was naturally sharing my 7

8 gifts and my skills and there is a level of mastery that I was able to move into that also allowed me to command higher fees, which is another aspect of what changed for me with niche clarity is I was able to diversify how many ways that people can work with me and therefore create multiple streams of income. PJ Van Hulle: Cool. Anne Cleveland: With this, I just love what you are saying because it pulls together so many of the things that we ve just been hearing, that finding your niche and finally putting your stake in the ground makes so much difference in your business, and I m wondering because I know a lot of people are in different places in their business, if you could really talk about what you called the dark night of the soul and really just say this is where you were and you move into this place of clarity which changed everything about your business and your life really, I imagine. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, yeah. I just wanted to comment on what you said about the themes that has arisen here in this powerful platform that you guys have created for us around what happens once you get clear, and it feels, on some level it feels counterintuitive, like we have these mistakes and belief that we stay more open and if we are broad, we are actually leaving the gateways open for the flood of clients to come in. But the opposite is true and this is one of my greatest resistances. I just thought if I get so small, if I get so narrow, I ll be able to help only a few people, and I want to share this, and PJ, I know you probably can resonate with it and for those who are listening because you maybe so tempted like, Oh, it will be different for me. Or one of the beliefs or the beliefs I had is like, Well, I ll just be really good at what I do and then people will find me. Like it just doesn t work. You have to get clear. So anyway, I just want to really underscore that. In terms of my own dark night of the soul, I d say that there were like several of them and we don t have enough time to go into all of that, but I would say definitely being at a place just a few years back where I had to come to terms with the decision of whether I was going to go back and do work or make this fly, and there were a couple of events in my life that transpired. I learned 8

9 my dad had cancer. I needed to move out from where I was at. It was just kind of snowball of facts and I had spent some time in Nigeria, Africa doing humanitarian work and it s like my whole world turned upside down when I came back. I knew that if I was going to do it, then do it like there was no more thinking about it. There was no more journaling about it. There was no more going to a hundred and one workshops about it. It s like there comes a point that we just need to take full responsibility and start taking action. For me, part of it was just really coming to terms with the level of embarrassment and shame I had around money. I m one of those people that s very authentic and I just call it like it is, so I hope it s okay that I m just like putting it out there. Anne Cleveland: Oh yeah. PJ Van Hulle: We love it. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, I mean, I was putting groceries on credit cards. I was talking to clients about how being in prosperity is your birthright, and yet behind the scenes I was so like not being able to attract the level of clients that I knew that I was meant to serve. So there was an incongruence within like what I knew was possible for myself, what I was telling clients was possible and then what was happening within my own financial matters, and I don t know how I could describe like what actually occurred for me, but there was just something that was shook up inside of me. It s like I wish I could say it like it was this one event. I mean, I ve had those events in my life, for instance, when I was still working and I wanted to take that leap into starting my business and I got hit by a car, and I ve known in that moment when that vehicle behind me hit me that I heard from the universe, it s like, You don t belong here. You are not moving on your path. It s because I was sitting still at a red light and the car behind me hit me. So it was a very clear message to move on and get out of here. 9

10 So in terms of my niche clarity, I don t have that same kind of a story. It was just something clicked for me and I decided fully that I was going to live and create the life that I didn t want to tolerate anything less than, you know? Anne Cleveland: Yeah. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. So then I just started sharing what I knew. I had started sharing my manifesting skills and tools, and I think in terms of the evolution of niche, I think it is just that. I think as we evolve and we grow and we come into greater and greater awareness of ourselves, more is revealed to us. So I started by teaching manifesting and how to manifest prosperity and I have a variety of course in that, and then as I was applying this rigorously more and more and more in my life, my income started to double and then triple and the quadruple, and I had quantum leaps in a very short amount of time. So with the implementation of these skills that then I was like, Well, now my niche has evolved into helping even more specifically how to manifest money and how to cure your relationship with money because I had demonstrated in my life that I could do that. Then because I started being a six figure businesswoman, then people started coming to me and saying, You know, what are you doing in your business? I want what you have. And then I was able to create a coaching program specifically for soul-centered women entrepreneurs helping them create the combination of the mindset and the tools, the nuts and bolts business tools to help them create their dream business. But all of those were stages in my niche, and it s not until you immerse yourself in the fullness of the clarity that you currently have and put that stake in the ground and then become known for it and become really good at it that perhaps then you evolved into the next one. And maybe you don t, maybe you will always stay in that, but that was kind of the stages for me. Then, of course, within a niche, there is what s called the micro-niches, which is that I m broadly helping with the spiritual and financial freedom and there are a lot of routes to that, so I teach the Medicine of Money, and so people who are just tripped up on their 10

11 mindset around money and really want to go deep into how is my money pain a part of my purpose, and how does the money shadow block me from prospering. That s one track, and then I have the track of like profitable purpose, which is the track where I just help people create their courses so they learn how to package their message in a way that they can create another income stream. So I m sharing this because I think that one of the biggest struggles that I see with women, especially creative types, visionary types get into is that, But I have so many ideas. And there is this feeling of contraction when it s like, well, choose something, because you think that that s going to eliminate all of this body of work that you want to share. You are like, I m really good at this. I m really good at this. It s kind of the curse of the creative visionary, but then once you have the umbrella of that niche, you can even more so laser in and have all of these different offerings. Anyway, I ll pause there. PJ Van Hulle: Well, I really appreciate how just open you are sharing your story and your process because I think it s actually pretty typical when people go through stages. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. PJ Van Hulle: And one thing that I got out of that is the idea that you just started working with what you had like, Okay, this is what I got here. And then it got more specific and it evolved over time, but you didn t just sit there trying to figure it out, trying to figure it out, trying to figure it out, like you ve got into action, got feedback and adjusted. Kendra Thornbury: I love that. PJ Van Hulle: And so I think that. Kendra Thornbury: Well said, yes. 11

12 PJ Van Hulle: I think that s one of the biggest takeaways so far. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, well said, I love that. Get into action and then you get information that can come to you only through action. So many people wait. They procrastinate. They think there is another golden key. They think there is some something, and this is when you had said, one of the things that I was going to talk about is the biggest mistake that I see that s keeping people stuck and in that treadmill or that cycle of being broke is that we are in this waiting game because we do not understand the value of who we are and what we can already contribute. There is something about your current skill set, your life experience and the unique divine expression of who you are that you came in with, with your purpose, that you can package in a way that you can make money with. I absolutely guarantee it, and so you take and craft in ways that I m sure PJ and Anne can help you with and other experts that have been a part of this, and you craft it in such a way that makes you more magnetic and then, again, like you said, you take action and then you hone. You ve got more information. It s like when I was in graduate school, they talked about design and action, which is a methodology for leadership, and it really is exactly what you had said, you take action and you are doing it. As you are going along, you get more information. You hone, you make adjustments and then you do it again, and it s just a continual process. So you need to get over this idea that who you are and what you are offering doesn t have value because it s a big fat lie, and then you need to get over whatever it is you think you are waiting for, and one of the things that s been really helpful for me and my business is a mantra, and I still use it, which is progress, not perfection. PJ Van Hulle: I love that one. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, if you are waiting to perfect your message or perfect yourself because you think, Oh, in order to be more visible as a leader, you need to overcome some of your shortcomings. No, it s like we think that we are supposed to 12

13 be perfect, and it s absolutely not. To me, it s an obligation to share what you know now, and then be willing to serve from that position and humbly grow as a leader with your following as you continue to evolve. Anne Cleveland: I love that. I ve had that experience of creating and having ideas, Oh, I can do this program, and I had waited so long that all that just didn t seem relevant so then I ended up creating something new. So just that idea of stalling and waiting can actually make it so that you are even delivering something because it s not the right timing. So when you finally get out there, you have to check in with yourself and get current and go, What is it that I m doing right now that will really be of service and that s current with me? So I love how you think about that. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, yeah. Oh, I love the word you used, stalling. That s a great one because I think that so many people are in this place of being stalled, and I think the other thing that s really had made a difference for me and my business and people ask me about my passion and my perseverance is I do have a sense of urgency, and it s not an urgency that s out of the urgency that a lot of people are trying to get out of, which is there is drama, struggle, all of that kind of getting away from, but truly to prosper and to thrive and to live into the wealth that I think is all of our natural state. We need to feel a different kind of urgency, so it s moving out of that survival urgency into a thival urgency, which is that sense of passion and fierceness and fervor that comes with being totally in the stream of who you are. Because let s face it, to get clear on your niche is to be more of who you are. I don t know of anybody who isn t shining in their brand, who isn t shining in their niche and making good money doing it. At least, I think in this new wave of business, I think that people are making money but they are not doing it in the conscious way or in a way that really serves their soul or helps other people, but you know what I mean. I think this new paradigm, this new wave of leadership and of business and of wealth; truly people who are doing well are being more themselves. They are being transparent. They are being authentic. They are revealing who they are, and I think 13

14 people are hungry for that. They are longing for it, and so think the urgency, just to come full circle with that, is that we are at unprecedented times right now on our planet. We are all needed and when you are holding back what you solved, when you can t get over your own limited beliefs, all of that, like just get over it because the world needs you and it needs you now. So that s my little spiel on that because I feel it s so important that we all wake up to the important role that we have here. PJ Van Hulle: Totally. Anne Cleveland: And one thing, the question it came up for me is this connection between what you are talking about, your training and abundance and creating inner wealth within, seeing the outer wealth, and with that, we will be enabled to make those kind of choices because it s almost like making those choices means that yes, you have to really see your value and you see that people needs you and that now is the time. But I m wondering if you could talk about your work with the women entrepreneurs and men, if you ve worked with them. How this has come up in your program? Kendra Thornbury: How is that? Just to clarify for me because for some reason, I didn t quite get that. How the knowing the value? Anne Cleveland: Yes. Kendra Thornbury: Just say that again in another way. Anne Cleveland: Yeah, the connection between learning about our relationship with money, and having that, you can form your clarity for your business. How those two were related? Kendra Thornbury: Okay, so I m going to just share what comes to me, and if I didn t quite answer the question in the way you meant, just let me know. In order to make the kind of money that we want, we do need to claim a niche, and I believe that one of the reasons why people aren t making money and attracting and having the kind of 14

15 impact they want is that they stay in the safety of being overwhelmed and confused. When my clients say to me when we are getting clear about their niche or their brand or creating a course, and they are like, I don t know. I m confused. I m not clear. I don t buy it anymore. I m like, You know on some level. I believe we all know on some level, and the pretending has been a way for us to have a safe place. So I think we need to get real about how it is that we are sabotaging ourselves in that way with the value piece. In order for us to make greater and greater amounts of money, we need to take a stand for our value. On a marketing level, we need to be able to verbalize and articulate the value that we can offer our potential clients and we need to do that in a way that appeals to them, that addresses a specific problem or struggle or pain that they are facing. So many people are just there like all over with their language. Bless our hearts, all of the spiritual visionary types like we just will wait. I never ever thought I would say what I m about to say, but we can be way too esoteric and woo-woo. That s what happened for me at the beginning of my business is I said, I want to help people come alive. Like okay, people are not awake at night feeling stressed out about being alive, at least, they are not conscious of it, but there are specific symptoms of that they are carrying about in their day to day life that you need to get more concrete about and specific about and be able to articulate it. So we really need to understand the value of what we contribute to our target clients, but also in terms of allowing and accepting greater prosperity and money and wealth in our lives. I think that if you don t believe that who you are has value, your bank account is going to reflect that, and I m not saying that money equals value. It s only one demonstration of a variety of circumstances that reflect whether you really know your worth and your value. So did I answer your question? Anne Cleveland: Yeah, actually, that was great. You answered exactly what I was wondering, so that s perfect. Kendra Thornbury: Okay, cool. 15

16 PJ Van Hulle: I m actually wondering in all this process, in this dark night of the soul, if you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself or what would you tell people that are struggling now? Like what are some keys or secrets to how to speed up this process and get to clarity around their niche faster? Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, that s a great question and there is an interesting part here because the pain and the struggle can actually be the gold of your niche. So for instance, in the Medicine of Money, one of the teleseminars that I lead is around the shadow of money, and Debbie Ford talks about the shadow quite a bit. Some of you might be familiar with that, and she says she has a brilliant quote that there is gold to be mined in every experience. So in terms of my old own dark night of soul and accelerating that process, on the one hand, we don t want to rush through the things because it s like we are missing the very gold that it has for us, but that s part of the problem is that people have resistance and so they are trying from their kind of ego fight or flight response like, Get me away from this. Get me away from this as fast as I can. But I teach a lot about universal law and whenever we resist this, it persist. So when you are resisting whatever it is you want to get away from, you are just amplifying it and you are creating more of it. So if you are in your own struggles or pain, rather than resisting it or trying to get away from it, my advice is that you lean into it. My advice is that you give thanks for it. My advice is that you inquire about what is the greater lesson that this experience have for me so that I can further my purpose and serve other people, and when you start asking that and when you start holding that position of gratitude and trust that it s a part of a larger journey unfolding, you will get it. It will come to you and then you will be complete with it. But when you are resisting it, you are fighting and trying to move away from it, it s just going to keep repeating itself over and over and over again because there is a lesson that you are meant to learn there that you are not willing to look at. So the other thing I would say is that the pain and the struggle that we perceive okay, how do I say this? So many people avoid getting through the hard times because they 16

17 think it s going to be harder, Oh, I m so scared because it s going to feel hard to do it. But what you need to get is that it s actually a lot easier than you think, and not only that, the pain that you are in that you are wanting to get away from is actually so much harder. The resistance and the fighting and the struggling is so much harder than the ease of allowing, going, turning and just going with the stream. So those are just a couple of my pieces of advice around that. Anne Cleveland: It s great to hear. What I m really struck by is instead of thinking about it, you are actually going towards something that s unknown which actually be less struggle than what you already know. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, Anne Cleveland: Yeah. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, and we ve been taught that the unknown is scary and so I work a lot with the divine feminine principle in business and bringing that forward in our financial matters as well. The feminine really have a lot of yummy qualities. One of which is that it s very comfortable with the unknown, and we ve gotten so far off the spectrum away from the feminine that we do anything to stay away from the unknown. We think it s safe to be in certainty. But you know what, there is a certain part of creation and business success, I mean, you cannot be an entrepreneur and be in the spirit of entrepreneurism and do that in a way that you are at peace and free if you cannot be in the unknown, right? PJ Van Hulle: Totally. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. Anne Cleveland: Yeah. Well, speaking of being at peace and freedom and having your business just to really take off, can you talk about some of the insights that you have 17

18 that will help people really attract those clients and become a client magnet and serve more doing what you love? Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, well, I think that what I d like to do, I just want to make sure I touch on these three keys. Anne Cleveland: Yeah. Kendra Thornbury: The insights will come through these keys. So these are simple keys that each of us can use and implement right away regardless of where you are starting in your business or to generate more income and what I want to preface here is that these are deceptively simple. What happens is as people, we want to overcomplicate things. Like yes, success can be easy. Yes, making greater and greater amounts of money is easy. So I just want to say that because that s skeptic or that little egoist voice, that monkey mind chatter can come up and say, Well, wait a second, that s it? Yeah, it is. So here are the three keys that I want to highlight, so that you can make more money being you, and it starts with accepting and understanding that the greatest path to prosperity is by being you and most of us have bought into another big fat lie, which is that being who we are threatens our prosperity. We have been trained, we have been brought up and conditioned to become something that we are not. It s like, Oh, I m going to hold back that voice because it upsets too many people. Or I m not going to express myself that way because then my boss might not like it and then I might lose my job. I mean, we could all go through and chat through and list the many ways that we have slowly but surely dimmed our lights and not expressed who we are because we wanted to make sure we had the security of a paycheck. So it s really ingrained in us, and I m passionate about understanding that the opposite is actually true. Because prosperity is not just about money, I mean, you guys know this. Prosperity is about being able to flourish in all areas of your life and you can t do that if you are in any way holding back the expression of who you really are. So that s why I want to 18

19 emphasize that because a lot of us, we could go out and make money and I ve been in situations where I make money, but I wasn t being me and I thought like I was compromising my soul, and when you are still making money to make money, you are still imprisoned by it. You are still a slave to it. So I m talking about total freedom here by bringing together the best of these worlds, the material and the spiritual. So the first key is to be original. Now, because you ve been taught to look outside of yourself rather than trusting within, it s likely that you ve been seeking guidance about how you need to look, how you need to market, how you need to brand, and what you need to say and communicate in order for clients and money to come to you. What s happened, unfortunately, is that you ve changed and contorted who you are in order to become who you think you are supposed to be, and what happens is that you become a copycat and you can see this in different niches, in different parts of our industry. It s like people are like cropping up saying and doing the same thing. Now, part of that is because there are trends and there are things that are very useful and helpful, but what I m talking about here is that losing that connection of what makes you you, and it s boring. People don t work with people that are boring. It s like what is original? What is it that you could risk that you could be saying that s more consistent with something that is unique to you, not your mom, not your colleagues, not society, not even with the latest and greatest marketers are saying? You were born to be original, and I know it sounds really cliché, but there is nobody else like you, and I want to be a voice that reminds you of knowing that you may have in yourself which is you absolutely have something that makes you distinct. I mean, what is brand anyway? People try to study and figure out what brand is. I mean, I think that it s the being and expression of your original essence, like there is something that people can feel that s congruent and it comes through in your marketing and it comes through in your colors and everything, but that all starts with the original essence of who you are. So that s the first key is to be original, and what that means is that you are probably going to be taking some risks and doing something that s unique 19

20 and expressing and marketing in a way that has a twist that others aren t venturing into yet. So that s the first one, and I can go into the next one, but I want to pause in case you guys want to like go back and forth about this. Anyway, I just want to make space if it s there. PJ Van Hulle: I actually like this. I appreciate you breaking it down the truths of the keys. So the first one is be original, accepting the being of who you are is a gateway to prosperity rather than trying to like mimic everybody else. I guess I do have a question and that s like, how do you balance the concept of modeling success versus reinventing the wheel with being original? Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, that s a great question. I ve never heard that question before. So how do you balance, so it s about not reinventing the wheel. So are you hearing when I m seeing being original that you need to kind of start over? PJ Van Hulle: Well, not necessarily. No, I m not feeling like you need to start over, but one of the things that has really helped me build businesses is finding people that are doing what I want to be doing and learning from them and modeling them and using their systems and templates and even adopting some of their beliefs and habits and stuff like that. Kendra Thornbury: Oh sure. PJ Van Hulle: But I also don t want to be a copycat or become just another version of my mentors. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. Okay, yes, yes. PJ Van Hulle: So how do you be original without reinventing the wheel? Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. Thank you. That helped me understand a bit more. Now, I think we all need mentors and coaches and so I think it s important to discern that 20

21 what I m saying here is not like go out and do it and figure it out by yourself. Like definitely, one of the ways that I ve taken quantum leaps especially in the last 12 months is that I ve invested a large money in a coach. So we all need support and we all need to be savvy about surrounding ourselves with mentors and people who have been there and done that, so we are not wasting any time and we can get right down and get the shortcuts and get down to doing the work we are here to do, so absolutely. But within that, there is the knowledge and taking the time to get more clear about who you are specifically that separates you from the other, that distinguishes you from the others, and there is always something. Just look at your history. It maybe a combination of two things, like you know who just flashed in my right now is Gina DeVee. She brings together like being the queen, the benevolent queen, and teaching women wealth consciousness and she has this interesting component. She s a foodie. She loves the chefs. She loves cooking, and so she brings that element into her marketing. So that s just flashed in my mind as an example. I don t think she probably got that from a mentor. Now, a coach might have guided her to see that because we usually don t see what s like right in front of us in terms of who we are and what s right there, but that s very unique combination. That s part of her brand and part of her niche. So we all have that, and so it s just about bringing something forth that s specific to who you are in addition to using the systems and the models and so forth that are already there. So did that help? PJ Van Hulle: Yes, thank you. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah. PJ Van Hulle: So what s key # 2? Kendra Thornbury: So key # 2 is to be bold. By now I sure hope that you ve embraced that bringing more of who you are into your business is it s a business strategy. It s not a luxury. The more I am myself, the more money I make and I can 21

22 say that just so confidently right now. So you need to really get in touch with your passion and there is a passion in everybody that we need to unleash, and people are being too careful. They are being two faced. They want to say things in a way that s politically correct, or that they think people will want to hear. I know that everybody that s tuning in believes in something. You have a vision. You know something can be different for your potential clients or the tribe or the community that you are passionate about serving. So let that passion lead you, and I just see how much, again, especially women, we are taught to be the good girls. So we are holding onto our strong convictions. We don t want to rock the boat. We soften our delivery like in your seminars or in your marketing, again depending on what you are doing because you don t want to insult people. One of the biggest problems is that we need to get over our desire to be liked. I m not a coach, like I m not here to make friends when I coach people. Like I m on purpose to help people create freedom in their life and sometimes that includes awkward moments of calling people out, or feeling that tension of saying, You know, I know this is what you are saying. I empathize with you, but I need to call BS on this. I just think that we are just being too careful, and when you are not being as bold as the bold like you really are, people can t find you. You are dimming your light. It s like, Where are you? I can t really see you. So when you take a stand, when you hold a position, when you are a voice or an opinion or a philosophy, you need to trust that there is a community, there is a tribe of people that need to hear that message from you in your way and they will pay you for it. So yeah, that s the key #2 is to let yourself be bold, be daring, ride the cutting edge. Say what other people aren t willing to say. Create a controversy. Speak your truth. There are many ways to do that, but that s key to being you and making money doing it. Anne Cleveland: I love it. It s so free. I mean, just to hear you talking and just really put it out there to stand for yourself, and I know that you have something that you are offering, and I want to hear the last key, but I m thinking now might be a good time to 22

23 say what it is that you are going to offer for the callers if they want more of what you are talking about, more freedom to be who they are. Kendra Thornbury: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Well, the offer I m happy to make is really, I don t know anybody else that s teaching this or sharing this in this unique package, it s called the Medicine of Money, and it provides four secrets that will help heal your money pain, stop you from under-earning and awakens you to your true riches. Now, I don t know any area of your life that s not touched by money, and so that s why it s so important that we become the master of our money rather than our money being the master of us. And if you are here as the change agent, the healer, a leader and entrepreneur, if you are struggling with money, if you are preoccupied with money, if you are still figuring out how to pay your bills, or even if you still feel contacted because you are trying to get clients because you need money to pay bills, like you need to be completely reconciled with money and understand the purpose that it has for you and how you can harness it through your mindset so that it becomes an instrument that it s meant to be for you so that you can once and for all get on with the purpose that you are here for. Because it s holding you back and I know so many people that they want to get to that next level like if it s breaking through six figures, but then something sabotages them and it s usually in the money realm, or you know that you are here to make a big difference, you want to have a greater impact, but you are playing small because of your money struggles, and like I said, there is a lot of people who are wrestling and have that conflict between spiritual ideals and material desires and so I am really good at helping you heal your money wounds and doing it in a way that s direct and like let s get down to it because I don t want to waste anybody s time. Life is precious, it rocks and you ve got big work here to do, and so we just laser in and we get right to the heart of it because a lot of people have taken course and they kind of put layer on top of layer, but they really don t like zone in on what the real terrain is, and so the Medicine of Money helps you do that. I get into the surprising healing power of money, how it can be the greatest healing force in your life, what your money 23

24 struggles are really trying to tell you, and a surefire approach to transcending your money pain. People think that they need to put some kind of mask or veil over who they are, and again the more transparent you are, the more appealing that you are going to be to people. I know some people have talked about the know, like and trust factor. It s what people look for when they are making a decision, or one of the factors that people look for. When you are blogging, when you are creating videos, when you are writing your newsletter, when you are making your offers, do things that reveal a bit more and a bit more about who you are, and those mistaken beliefs that somehow you are flawed or that you are a fraud, I can t tell you how many women have the fraud syndrome. It s like, Well, I haven t perfected this. Again, this isn t about perfection, it s being about more of yourself. 25

26 So there are ways that you can reveal more about your own story, more about your own life. I m known for creating videos in the outdoors. It s kind of become part of my brand, and people know that I m a nature lover and I ll create videos from different places that I m traveling, or I m at the latest spiritual adventure, Here I am. Last week, I was in LA, and this and that. And it s like I m giving people a glimpse of my life. I ll share something about a personal insider or something that s going on, and again, people are just longing for more of you and you need to trust that the value of who you are will convey itself in a way that people will want to pay for. PJ Van Hulle: Right. So we are about to wrap up, when you were thinking about this call, is there anything else that you really wanted to share that you hadn t gotten a chance to share yet, or any questions that you wish we d asked that we didn t? Kendra Thornbury: Wow, those are great questions. You are good. I think what it boils down to is trusting that your authentic self is magnetic and attractive and that you will naturally magnetize or draw to you the connections, the real forces the people and the money that are in alignment with who you are, and to really get that the universe is an abundant universe and we were all gifted with certain contributions and ways of being for a reason, and to really let go with the pain and the struggle of the idea that there is a competitive universe when I have to pretend to be something I m not in order to make it. It s crazy making and I just invite you to take a few deep breath and feel rest assured that the new path to prosperity is truly about allowing yourself to be more of who you are.
