3 The power of your list Your list is the lifeblood of your business......and the truth is, the bigger your list the more income you will bring in. Your list needs to be your primary focus from the get-go. Without having a strong, organic mailing list, you ll have a feast or famine situation and, believe me, this is the hardest way to run any business. You don t need a huge mailing list - even having a few thousand people could easily lead to a six-figure business. In short, your money is in your list! Once you start building your list you can start sharing articles, blogs, vlogs, videos, product announcements, coupons, special offers and useful information and there are lots of marketing providers such as MailChimp, Mailpoet, and InfusionSoft to help you. If you haven t started building your list yet, don t panic. The ideas I m going to share with you will get you started and you can always book your FREE business strategy session with me if you need help. at 3

4 STOP! Before you start thinking about building your list, you need to ensure you have the following four basic marketing principles in place. 1. You MUST know who you re selling to and who your ideal client is. 2. You MUST know what problem you re helping your ideal client overcome and what issue your client wants help with. 3. You MUST have a basic online platform where clients can find you. 4. You MUST have at least one social media platform. at 4

5 1 1. CREATE A LEAD MAGNET... To grow your list you need a lead magnet. This is something you use on your pop-up, squeeze page or website to incentivise potential buyers to want to give you their name, , phone number, address or whatever info it is that you re asking for. A good lead magnet should be something that your ideal client will find really valuable. Free reports, newsletters, quizzes, videos, MP3s, workbooks, e-books and so on work really well. 6 2 2. USE POP-UPS... There s a lot of debate around pop-up opt-ins. They can be annoying or intrusive, but done right, they work! Combine a pop-up with a super-strong lead magnet and plug it in to your website. Ensure that you set it to only appear every 30 days for each IP address, or you will drive your web visitors nuts! at 6

7 3 2. GET SQUEEEZIN... You may be unfamiliar with the term squeeze page but it will quickly become central to your marketing strategy. A squeeze or lead page is an online page with the sole intention of collecting opt-in data in order to grow your list. These almost always work with a lead magnet such as a FREE download or access to video training. Squeeze pages are simply the most effective way to quickly get your message in front of an audience and convert them into a lead. Left: An example of one of my squeeze pages. 7

8 4 4. EXHIBIT AT AN EVENT OR EXHIBITION... Over the last few years I ve added over 10,000 people to my list from exhibitions and events. Exhibit at an event where your ideal client hangs out and promote what you do. Research relevant events, seminars or exhibitions in your industry and book yourself a stand. Exhibiting can be a fast way to build your mailing list and secure potential new business. Be sure to produce professional point of sale material to stand out, think: competition cards, leaflets, pull-up banners and so on. Left: One of my book signings at a Hay House event. at 8

9 5 5. GET SPEAKING... Over the last ten years I have used public speaking to bring in tens of thousands of pounds into my business. Speaking is a great way to quickly engage your ideal clients and create new business fast. In fact, initially I built my business from speaking. Every speaking gig is a chance to add people to your list but only if you tell them. Hand out data-capture forms to ensure you get as many people on your list as possible. at 9

10 6 6. WRITE A GUEST BLOG OR GET INTERVIEWED BY AN EXPERT... Find out who else in the world services your niche and ask whether you can feature on their blog or whether they d be interested in interviewing you. This can be a very effective way of reaching a larger audience quickly via someone else s platform. But as usual, don t forget to tell them about your lead magnet so they can join your list. at 10

11 7 7. HOOK UP A JOINT VENTURE... Team up with a business related to your industry (but not a direct competitor) for a joint project. This can be done locally offline through some kind of special event, or online with a webinar or promotional giveaway. Partnering with another business is a fast way to build your list. Imagine the impact of someone like me promoting you to my list of thousands. If you re partnering with an industry-relevant business, you re getting introduced to a whole new audience related to your niche who are hungry for what you offer. at 11

12 8 8. JOIN FB GROUPS... Facebook is a very effective way of engaging with your ideal clients while building your list. Seek out relevant Facebook groups where your ideal client is likely to be hanging out and start interacting. Join the conversation, comment on posts and start building relationships. NEVER join a group and immediately start selling to people. People will not take kindly to this. at 12

13 9 9. VIDEO IS KING!... Video is an essential part of any online business these days and live streaming is the next big thing. This kind of live media is engaging, quickly builds trust and rapport with potential clients and can speed up the buying process considerably and of course it s a great way of driving traffic to your lead magnet. Create a YouTube channel, or get live streaming via Facebook, Periscope or Blab right now and share tips and information that is relevant to your ideal client or create a video that is promoting a new product or course you have coming out. 14 PPC ADVERTS... Above: One of my own PPC ads. PPC stands for pay-per-click, a model of internet marketing where advertisers pay a small fee each time one of their ads is clicked. Essentially, it s a way of buying visits to your website or squeeze page, rather than attempting to earn those visits organically. First off, you need a strong irresistible lead magnet and then you need to create a powerful advert that engages your ideal client so that they feel compelled to click on your ad. Once they have clicked your ad and signed up for your lead magnet, you own the data and are free to market to them as you wish. If you currently don t have a mailing list or are looking to launch a product fast, this is the way to go! at 14

15 GET IN THE PRESS... Getting in the press is a sure-fire way of quickly becoming the go to expert in your field and build your list. People will start to see you as an authority in what you do. Plus, you will naturally attract new clients to your business. But, it s important that you seek out only publications that your ideal client is likely to read. 16 CREATE YOUR OWN SUMMIT... Creating your own online event is the fastest way to grow your list overnight. A summit is when you gather together a handful of experts relevant to your field and interview them. You present this as a summit and they in turn promote the summit to their list. If each of your interviewees has a list of 5,000 people and you have 20 guests, that means you could be reaching and audience of 100,000 people all interested in what you have to offer. Imagine if you then had only 5% of this audience sign up to your summit - that would be 5,000 people on your list overnight! at 16
