1 Elizabeth Rodriguez Self-Evaluation Project EDCI_6304 I. Attendance & Gifting (50 points) During the course of this class it was my intention at the beginning of the semester to make every effort possible to attend all the online Eliminate Live classes. Although I did attend the majority, I believe I missed 1 or 2 classes due to my work schedule. As a full time mom, employee and wife, it is very difficult to find enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I want to accomplish. Even though sometimes I feel completely overwhelmed by the load of school and work, I don t allow it to get to me too much because my ultimate goal is to succeed in every area of my life. So although I may have missed a couple of classes, I need make every effort possible not to miss too many. The gifting part of this class was very interesting to me. This allowed each of us to share something special with the class. Each time I gifted I tried to make it as meaningful as possible because I wanted to make an impact on the students receiving the gift. I think my favorite gift that I sent was the poem about teachers. I remember reading it and as I read it, it made me cry. So often teachers and educators go unnoticed and it is amazing how much of themselves they dedicate to students. It was nice to read a poem about how God loves teachers. I enjoyed everyone s gift. Although I probably did not get a chance to look at everyones gift, the ones I did visit was cute and innovative. Candice s poem All I Really Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten was funny and it actually took me back to the early years when my children were in school. 2 of the teacher rapping math concepts to her students was a great gift because it helps gives other teachers ideas. All in all everyone s gifts were great. I really enjoyed this part of the class because it gives us an opportunity to interact with one another and to see how different we all are because we all had gifts that varied. I give myself a score of 23 only because of the classes I missed. I did however complete my 5 gifts and I was very satisfied with the choices I made. Total Points Attendance & Gifting: 23 II. Class Orientation (50 points) I thought this tool was extremely helpful in assisting me with becoming familiar with the way the class was going to work. The step by step guide on every aspect of the class made all the difference in the world. I have taken many online classes and I don t think I can remember one class who provided a class orientation like the one that was provided for this class. I believe its extremely important to assist the students in understanding the e-learning environment, especially for students who may have never taken an online class in the past. I especially enjoyed the part where we had to post a picture of ourselves and create/present a powerpoint where we would introduce ourselves to the rest of the class. This is very important in an online class because since we don t have the opportunity to meet each other face to face, this allows us to put faces to the names of our classmates and our instructors. It helps make the class more personal and eases any fears in this new and innovative way of learning. Total Points Class Orientation: 50 III. Weekly Discussion, Questions and Comments (100 points) I believe the weekly blog is an excellent way to allow students to reflect on the weekly topic. This gave me the opportunity to write about and reflect on the topic being discussed for each particular week. I made every effort to make my blogs 2

3 clear and easy to understand. I learned a lot from reading what my peers were writing and responding on everyone s blogs. This was a great tool to again keep us connected as a class. These kinds of strategies are so helpful in the distance learning environment and I was happy to be able to participate in the weekly blogging. I take away a wealth of knowledge thanks to my peers. I don t want to give myself a perfect score because I feel I could have made a greater effort to respond to everyone s blog. I should have spent more time blogging with my peers because there was so much to learn. IV. Resident Expert (100 points) Total Points: 96 I think this was the project that I found the most challenging. It is difficult to speak about a subject that you are 100% familiar with. Jessica and I decided to do the resident expert project together because we both wanted to write about Motivational Theories. In the written part of the project, I think we both did our best to provide as much information as possible. However, during the presentation part I believe Jessica was able to do a better job than I did. She was able to explain and interact in a much more efficient way than I was. I believe I got very nervous and instead of interacting with the class, I just read my presentation. As for Jessica, she did an excellent job presenting her part of our resident expert topic. I will not give myself a perfect score in this project because I feel that I may have been able to prepare better and work harder. Total Points: 90 V. Lesson Plan (50 Points) Although at the time of writing this evaluation, I haven t presented my lesson plan to the class. I can say that I am very happy with the outcome of my lesson plan. When I was deciding on a subject on which I could do my lesson plan, I thought of a lot of things. One of the topics I had thought of was The Alamo, a history lesson. When discussing this with my youngest son, he said to me Mom, what 3

4 do you know about the Alamo? He then said You should do your lesson plan on something you are familiar with. Needless to I chose a topic I am very familiar with which is Cycling. I am very happy with the work I have put into this project. I am very excited about presenting my lesson plan to the class. I will give myself the score of 50% because I worked very hard preparing this project. VI. Research Literature Review (100 points) Total Points: 50 I can still recall the first few days of class especially when Dr. Yang talked about our research literature review. I was very nervous at the thought of writing a paper of this caliber. As I started doing some research and I become more familiar with my topic and much more comfortable with being able to write a paper that I could be proud of. I am happy to say that I have finished the final draft of my literature review and I am thoroughly happy with the result. My topic was Motivation in the Classroom, and I must say that I was able to learn a lot while in the process of developing my paper. I was very happy with the peer reviews that I received because it helped me to perfect my paper. Although I am very satisfied with the final draft of my literature review, I think there is always room for improvement. Thus I will not be giving myself a perfect score on this project because I still feel that I may have so much more to learn and I look forward to receiving my graded paper with comments on how I can improve. Total Percentage Points: 100% Grade: 88% Overall Reflections: Total Points: 95 Although I was very skeptical when I started this class, I am glad I was able to be a part of a class that although the class is a distance learning class it gave us the opportunity to become very actively involved with each other because of the different projects that we were assigned. My goal for this class was to leave knowing just a little bit more than I knew before I started and I am happy to say that I know more than I gave myself credit in the beginning. Although Master s 4

5 classes are very challenging, they are worth the time, effort and hard work that we are asked to perform by our instructors. 5
