2 2 RUNNING A BUSINESS IS LIKE RUNNING A MARATHON It begins with signing up and committing yourself. When you signed up for this course, your intention was to make your business a super success. When you re running a marathon, you need a training plan, a step-by-step guide that will take you from the condition you re in now to the condition you need to be in to successfully complete the marathon. This curriculum is your training plan, designed to elevate you from where you are now to the business of your dreams.

3 3 Recruit Accountability Partners When you prepare for a marathon, you set up a support system usually family, friends, coaches, and other people who will run with you. Together they will keep you on track. The same goes for running your business. You need a support system family, friends, fellow entrepreneurs, and other business professionals who will cheer you on and support you on the road to success! Create a Vision You ll also need to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish. When you re running, you know that at the end of the marathon, you ve completed a certain number of miles. Take a moment to think about your goals for this program. How many clients do you want to have? How much income do you want to earn?

4 4 Use a Calendar When you re training for a marathon, you schedule time into your calendar for daily and/or weekly runs. In your business, you must schedule in action steps that will pave the way for your success. Lay a Foundation You also need to get all the right equipment. You need sneakers, running socks, clothing, and maybe a knee brace. When you re starting your business, you need to lay your foundation. We ve listed these tasks in your Jumpstart Checklist. Develop a Positive Mindset As any successful runner will tell you, running regularly helps foster a positive mindset. They use their running time to clear their heads. They learn to break through the internal barriers they have when it comes to running that fast, that hard, and for that long. As you encounter obstacles in your business, having a positive mindset will help you overcome any issues that come your way. A positive mindset will keep you on course, even when times get rough or things aren t going according to plan.

5 5 Get Expert Guidance A good way to get into the best physical shape possible for a marathon is to hire a running coach. In your business, you might look into hiring a coach of your own who can walk you through each step and hold you accountable to your goals. Take Consistent Action When you re training, you set consistent times in your schedule to run. In your business, you ll want to be taking consistent action, including networking and doing Health Histories. The best way to make sure this gets done is to put it on your calendar and commit to it. Keep Your Head in the Game When you re running a marathon, you ll want to keep your eyes focused on the road ahead. Looking at the runners around you will throw you off track, and the same goes for your business. If you re constantly gauging the competition, you are not taking action and you will get stuck in compare despair. Stick with your pace, do your best, and don t let others distract you.

6 6 Prepare for Obstacles Obstacles happen. On the marathon course, you ll likely need to stop for food and water, but you may also bump into a fallen runner or incur some kind of injury. In these situations, you ll have to slow down and adjust course. There will be times in your life and in your business when things don t go according to plan. A launch may flop. A client may up and leave. Deal with the problem and get back on track as soon as you feel ready. Increase Your Momentum As you get closer to the finish line, there will be tactics that you employ to improve your time. You might speed up. You might try a different breathing technique. Once you have gained some ground and momentum in your business, it s time to start incorporating more advanced concepts, like getting publicity, building an online presence, and improving your money mindset. Don t shy away from new things.

7 7 Keep Going The finish line of the marathon is your success. Of course, in business there is no physical finish line that you cross, but rather it is an ongoing state where you are living the kind of life you desire and running the business you ve dreamed of.
