1 How to Register for ALEKS 1. Go to Select New user Sign up now 2. Enter the course code J4QVC-EJULX in the K-12/Higher education orange box. Then select continue. 3. Confirm your enrollment information. 4. Indicate whether you have an ALEKS account (if you have used ALEKS before) or not. 1

2 Enter your 20-character purchased ALEKS Access Code. If you are waiting to purchase your code, you can use this temporary financial aid access code: 11B ED-BBBF9 5. The temporary access is good for 2 weeks. Once you purchase access you will be able to continue where you left off in the course. 6. Complete your registration process. If you are new to ALEKS, you will need to create an account. If you are an existing ALEKS student, simply verify your address. 3 Getting Started In ALEKS: Tools Tutorial and the initial Knowledge Check After you register for ALEKS you will be guided through a tour of ALEKS. As part of the tour you will be prompted to take a Tools Tutorial. This tutorial does not count for a grade, but is required. In this tutorial you will learn how to enter mathematical answers using the ALEKS system. When you are prompted to take the Tools Tutorial, click Get Started to begin. Upon completion of the Tools Tutorial, you will need to take the initial Knowledge Check. This is assignment will include around questions. Take your time and try your best. This assignment will not count for a grade, but the results will be used to determine what topics you already know and where you should begin in the class. If you are not able to complete the Knowledge Check all in one sitting that is okay. When you need to stop, log off. When you log back into ALEKS you will be able to pick up where you left off. You will not have access to anything else in ALEKS until you complete the Knowledge Check. Keep in mind that the assessment will ask you questions about topics that you may not have seen before; feel free to click I don t know for these questions. 3

4 How to Work on a Module in ALEKS Modules do count for a grade in the class (completing modules is similar to completing homework assignments). Once you are finished with the initial Knowledge Check, you will be prompted to start on your personalized learning path. To get started, click on Start my Path. When you click on your path you will be immediately brought to a learning page for a topic in your current module. This is where the learning will take place. You can read through the step by step explanation or use any of the multimedia resources linked on the right. Click here when you are ready to try it on your own. 4

5 When you click on Start that means you are now ready to work a question on your own. You must work a question on your own in order to earn points on a topic. Make an attempt at the question, and then click Check. Answering correctly will result in a point added to your progress bar. As you get questions correct, you will see your progress bar fill up. Be careful because getting a question incorrect will mean losing a point on the progress bar. Once you fill up your progress bar completely, you will have completed that topic. You will receive a message similar to the message below. By completing a topic, you will increase your module score. Your module score is determined by the topics you have completed for that module. If there are 10 topics in the module and you complete 8, you will have a module score of 8/10 = 80%. To increase your score further, you would need to complete another topic. 5

6 Now that you have completed a topic, you can get started on your next topic. Select Continue My Path to work on another topic. Every time you go to your learning path, you will be brought to a learning page. However, you have to the option to select another topic if you like. To do that, select the small arrow below the topic name. This will open a menu of topics. Select any available topic. Once you have completed all the topics in a module, you will receive a message similar to the message below and then be able to move on to the next module,. 6

7 How to take a Quiz in ALEKS 1. Select the menu button at the top left of the page (it looks like 3 horizontal lines) 2. Then Select Assignments. 3. Click on the name of the quiz to get started. 7

8 Knowledge Checks: You will receive periodic (random) assessments in ALEKS, which includes the initial Knowledge Check that must be taken when you first register for ALEKS. You will not receive a grade for any assessment. The assessment is used to determine what you know and what you still need to work on. Always make sure to take your time on any assessment, if you get a question correct it will be checked off as mastered but if you get a question incorrect (that you had previously demonstrated as mastered ) you may have to redo that topic. 8
