1 Summative Assessment of the Basic Knowledge of Art Unit (SRA, ERA, PTA) 1 Carly Seyferth 8/2/10 ED 337 Summative Assessment of Our Unit Basic Knowledge of Art The objective of this assessment is to diagnose what the students have learned from this unit. This summative assessment is a necessity in order to carry on to the next learning unit. I. Multiple Choice (1 point each) II. Fill in the Blank (1 point each) III. Matching (1 points each) IV. Everyone will have at least forty-five minutes to finish the assessment. There will be no talking during the assessment. If anyone has questions, raise your hand and I will come to you. Please read each set of directions carefully, for it is your responsibility to do so. Please do not forget to date your paper and sign your name at the top left corner of your paper. Remember to write on your own answer key and not on the test. Please write the answers to your essay questions on a separate piece of paper, preferably lined paper. Once finished please staple your answer key and short answers together and place them face down, in a pile, on my desk. A stapler will be sitting on the front area of my desk. If you finish with your summative assessment before the given time is up then you are allowed to work on the homework assignment described on the board. Do not worry, you are not expected to write a full paragraph for each question. These are short answer questions. Each will be one point. Please keep proper grammar and spelling in mind and use complete sentences. List your answers on a separate piece of paper. Please remember to use a heading and LABEL it as SHORT ANSWER. Beneath the heading write the question number and then your answer. 1. Please name one decision that may weaken a composition and a reason why. 2. Please name one decision that may strengthen a composition and a reason why. 3. Please give one reason why it is important to have proper perspective in your drawing 4. Please explain why it is important to consider atmospheric perspective when drawing from life? SHORT ESSAY Below there is a list of short essay questions. Please write your answers on another sheet of paper. After answering the short answer write another heading and label it SHORT ESSAY. Beneath the heading write the question number and then your answer,, so I know which question you are answering. Please keep proper grammar and spelling in mind and use complete sentences. Please demonstrate these on a separate piece of paper. Remember to label your heading as PERFORMANCE BASED. Beneath the heading please number your paper 1-3 and draw your answers next to their designated number. Each question is worth five points. After you are done with your test staple all of your papers together and place face down in a neat pile on my desk. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON YOUR ASSESSMENT. 1. Please create a 10 grade value scale on your answer sheet, from lightest to darkest. 2. Please demonstrate at least three different forms of shading on your answer key and label each one with the proper name. 3. Please draw the four types of line weight on your answer key.

For instance, not having unity, not having structure, not having a quality of value, not having balance, etc. 2. Anything that supports the rules of a composition. For instance, having balance, unity, value, form, structure, etc. 3. Proper perspective enhances structure and form in a drawing. It makes things look more realistic and three dimensional. 4. Atmospheric perspective makes things look more realistic. It helps create space and depth in a drawing. SHORT ESSAY QUESTIONS 1. Value, line, shape, color, texture 2. There are six aspects of light they are known as highlight, direct light, mid tone, core shadow, reflective light and cast shadow. 3. By using the six aspects of light properly an artist can enhance their drawing and make the drawing realistic. The six aspects of light, if used properly, enhance an object s structure and form. In result the objects in the drawing look more three dimensional and realistic. 4. Contour line helps teach us how to identify subtle shifts in value. When an area of value changes then there is a shape in which that value makes.

Blind gesture encourages us to focus on movement of an object and the movement of shapes and value. By not looking at the paper we are forced to rely on observation. Blind contour forces us to focus on the shapes of the actual object and not the shapes that we think are there. It encourages us to train our hands to move with our eyes.
