BIDDER WILL ACKNOWLEDGE RECEIPT OF THIS ADDENDUM IN THE SPACE PROVIDED ON THE PROPOSAL PAGE The Bid Opening Date has been postponed from October 28, 2014 to November 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. CLARIFICATION NO Question: What type of pavement markings are letters and symbols shown on the plans? Answer: General Note 44 has been added to Drawing No. 3 (G-2) to clarify. Pavement marking letters and symbols on Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) and High Friction Surface Treatment with Recycled Glass (HFST) surfaces shall be THERMOPLASTIC. All other pavement marking letters and symbols shall be PREFORMED THERMOPLASTIC unless otherwise noted in the plans or as directed by the Commissioner. 2. Question: Would the symbols shown on the plans be that of preformed thermoplastic with embedded symbols (as per plans) or would the coatings be omitted and just regular thermoplastic symbols be applied directly to the substrate? Answer: Preformed thermoplastic letters and symbols shall be placed on non-colored pavement and colored concrete. Letters and symbols placed within pavement colorized with preformed thermoplastic material shall be placed as an embedded application of preformed thermoplastic. A PREFORMED THERMOPLASTIC EMBEDDED LETTERS AND SYMBOLS DETAIL has been added to Drawing No. 188 (PMK-52) to clarify.

3. Question: Sheets C-4 and C-8 (in the Existing Conditions): it indicates SEE NOTE 4. However, these drawings do not have Note 4. Answer: Revise SEE NOTE 4 to read SEE NOTE Question: Item 238 Bus Shelter Bench Seat calls for the wood seat planking to be FSC Certified Ipe. To my knowledge, FSC Certified Ipe lumber in the size required for these benches (2x6) is not available. Can the FSC certification for the Ipe lumber be lifted? If FSC Certified Ipe is required for this project, please provide a source that can provide this lumber as we are unable to locate one. Answer: The FSC Certification requirement will NOT be lifted, but two additional species of wood have been added in this clarification as alternatives allowable with the approval of a sample by the Commissioner. 5. Question: Detail 1/S-18 - The detail seems to show a collar connection on the Rib that bolts to the 14" diameter pipe. No size of plate is given or weld type or size to the Rib. Please supply? Answer: The plate that is the collar between the rib and the 14 HSS should be 5x1/2. The weld of the 5x1/2 plate to the rib is a 3/8 shop fillet on both sides of the rib. The weld of the 5x1/2 plate to the 14 HSS is a 3/8 field fillet on both sides of the plate. 6. Question: Detail 1/S-18 - On the left side of the detail there is a note about slotted holes for adjustment. I understand about removing bolts and welding holes. Is this weld to be the weld to hold the rib into its final location? We have not found any further details if the collar its self should be welded to the 14" diameter pipe. Should the plug welding of holes be the final welding, how many holes do you required for connection? Answer: No. The welds to fill the erection holes are cosmetic only and do not serve a structural purpose. 7. Question: Detail 1/S-18 - In the detail on the far right shows (2) field welded splices to get rib fastened around the 14" diameter pipe. Should this be (3) locations? Not sure of the intent on how to only have (2) locations? Please advise. Answer: Yes, this should be 3 locations. 8. Question: For Item Canopy Steel, is an AISC certified required for either the canopy steel fabrication or erection? Answer: The Special Provision for Bus Shelter Canopy Structural Steel references IDOT Standard Specification Section 505. Per fabricators shall meet requirements of Article which requires all fabricators performing work on metal components to be certified under appropriate categories of the AISC.

9. Question: For Item Canopy Steel, please confirm if the canopy steel is galvanized and/or prime painted? If galvanized, is blasting required prior to the primer being applied? Answer: The canopy steel is painted using one of the paint systems (or equal) detailed in the specifications for Item 233 HIGH PERFORMANCE PAINT. Per the requirements surface preparation must meet the requirements of the paint system manufacturer. All coatings specified require zinc primer and blast cleaning. Steel is not to be galvanized. 10. Question: For Item Canopy Steel, please clarify if any the welds on the canopy require any finishing (grinding smooth) If so, please specify which welds. Answer: All visible welds on the canopy framing must be ground smooth. Appearance of the finished product is important and will be judged against the approved mock-up. 11. Question: For Item Canopy Steel, will an independent testing agency be required to inspect & approve either shop or field welds? If so, is one or two agencies required? Answer: A certificate from a laboratory of recognized standing certifying that all welding of all structural members was done under its inspection and meets all requirements of the contract drawings and specifications must be submitted. Certifications for all welders on the project must be submitted prior to beginning work. When all structural welding operations are completed, submit a certificate from the contractor responsible, showing that the fabrication and erection of the welded structure meet the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications. Weld inspection by more than one testing agency will not be required. 12. Question: For Item Canopy Steel, will a generic welding procedure specification (WPS) be sufficient or will project specific WPS be required? Answer: The weld procedure submitted must be acceptable to the Commissioner. 13. Question: For Item Canopy Steel, if acceptable, can the mock up of the canopy steel be used as part of the final product? Answer: The mock-up of the canopy structural steel may be incorporated into the finished work after acceptance and to be maintained as the basis for acceptance of other structural components. 14. Question: For Item 234 Metal Plate Assembly, the specification references IDOT section 505, please confirm that WPS, PQR's, CWI are not required for this item. Answer: Welding procedures for non-structural components can consist of general welding procedure and welder qualifications.

15. Question: For Item 234 Metal Plate Assembly, please confirm if the metal plate is to be steel as shown on A-13 or non-directional stainless steel as noted in the specification. Answer: Metal plate assembly is to be stainless steel with non-directional surface finish as specified. 16. Question: For Item 235 Canopy Drainage and Conduit Run, the specification references IDOT section 505, please confirm that WPS, PQR's, CWI are not required for this item. Answer: Welding procedures for non-structural components can consist of general welding procedure and welder qualifications. 17. Question: For Item 242 & 243 Railing, the specification references IDOT section 505, please confirm that WPS, PQR's, CWI are not required for this item. Answer: Welding procedures for non-structural components can consist of general welding procedure and welder qualifications. 18. Question: For Item 242 & 243 Railing, the specification references IDOT section 505, please specify if the stainless steel tube handrail joints are mechanical or welded. Answer: The handrail joints are welded and grinded smooth, all connections to the post are mechanical. 19. Question: Contract documents indicate removal/relocation of Pay-to-Park Boxes is BY OTHERS but fees/cost to be paid by CONTRACTOR. There are 25 boxes to be removed/relocated shown on the drawings. What fee/cost will be charged by the City or Chicago Parking Meters LLC to perform this work? Answer: The fee/cost is $1,000. for each Pay-to-Park box 20. Question: Contract documents indicate that the City will remove and reinstall any parking meter fees paid by CONTRACTOR in accordance with Municipal Code Is there ANY cost to be paid by the CONTRACTOR for lost revenue should existing parking meters be rendered unusable due to construction activities, such as during the paving of the parking lane? Answer: The contractor will NOT be assessed any charges for lost revenue should existing parking meters be rendered unusable due to construction activities. 21. Question: Item High Performance Paint specification on Page DS-199 requires that finish coat be spray applied in the field. This is a costly coating and the downtown location will be difficult to manage the tenting and preparation for a field applied coating. Will it be allowable to provide this coating in the shop and touch up as needed in the field?

Answer: The finish coat and touch up must be performed per manufacturer requirements. If shop coating is what is recommended by the manufacturer of the product chosen that meets the specification, then yes - the work can be performed in that manner. 22.
