How can we improve by using the elements? Line variation, shape, patterns, texture and colour. Draw and fill with oil pastels ready to paint with watercolours. Paint wet on wet. When dry stick on the photo and add puffy paint (if needed). Lesson 5,6 and 7: Introduction to portraiture. Powerpoint. Why do artists create self portraits? What can we learn from the images? Powerpoint- brief overview of 6 artists. 2. Summarize: style, colours, purpose for creating the art. Discuss: How could you make your portrait look like theirs? (consider clothes, shapes, colours, lines, patterns and backgrounds) 3. Research the painting you want to use as an inspiration. Analyze with bullets. 4. Concepts with notes in DWB. Use the line drawing/photo provided make the required changes and then trace the image on the ipad. Print the drawing out. Create a colour plan on the ipad. 5. Trace and complete the major piece. Theory (Criteria A): Write a conversation between two of the playing cards describing their differences and reasons.

Collect the lettering, create/stencil/magazines/newspapers. 3. Create a collage or paint effect background. Then research visual images to connect to the text. 4. Thumbnails planning the design of image with text. 5. Colour plan if time permits. Review as a group share poems and ideas. How can we make it better based on movement, focal point and balance? 6. Work in layers simplicity is the key.

10 Grade 7 Trimester 1 H/W or extension project. Fruit in class Zen tangle at home. Goal: Slot art birds 1. Observational drawing. 2. Break into 3 basic parts. 3. Test design with paper or cereal box card 4. Colour plans and designs -elements and principles 5. Construct out of white card (Tobias can help with the cutting) Option: The best design could be constructed out of wood for the school. 6. Add colour with paint (and collage?) If we donʼt get the materials then the students will used the damaged art to create interesting sculptures. They will paper mache the item and then design their final creation. Following the above process: Research, concepts, colour plans, test, construct and evaluate.

Start with boxes move to zentangle letters x2. Practise 2 point. Major task 2 point perspective in coloured pencil and sharpie. Students will choose Art gallery OR creature and buildings. The process will be the same. 1. Practise a basic city or room from demo. 2. Research creature or artwork for the gallery. 3. Brainstorming/Concepts 4. A5 colour plan share with the class and get feedback. 5. Make changes and draw up final 6. Colour using tone, pattern, texture
16 Grade 8 Trimester 1 Impressionist landscape on canvas board/ stretched canvas/ watercolour paper. 1. Introduction to Impressionism. Quiz can you guess the artist? Visual research- make a photomontage of Impressionist paintings. Note Artyfactory and play the quiz. Survey Google Docs (check understanding). 2. Copy 3 small sections of a favourite landscape painting in chalk, pencil and oil pastel. 3. Paint techniques and experiments. Paint a section of a favourite painting. 4. Review the colour wheel. Broken colour and paint mixing. Analyze an artwork briefly. Practise skies, sunsets, clouds, grass and water. 5. Choose an appropriate landscape photo to work from. Use the ipad to turn it into an Impressionist piece. Thumbnail sketches paying attention to horizon, tone, movement and balance. 6. Review as a group and create an A5/A4 colour plan in acrylics. Paint a light ground onto the final surface. 7. Lightly sketch the major outline, no details. Fill with loose broken colour mix on the canvas not on the palette. Criteria A: Groups of 4 create a book about the artist like the sample (2 can story board, 2 can plan the illustrations and create a quiz for the end of the book then 4 colour the pages. min10pages Max Share your book with grade 3 or 4. Teach the Impressionist skills to local kids. Create a small Impressionist painting with them. (2-3 sessions)

18 Grade 8 Trimester 2 GIN Exhibit -Global issues unit using collage and mixed media. The GIN kids will come and explain what Global Issues are. The students will brainstorm a 13 word list which will go into a hat and will be drawn by each student. They will begin with a collage/texture board and paint on top of that. The pieces can hang in an instillation. Some creative display ideas.

Photoshop mandala. 3. Complete the photoshop mandala print two coloured ones- laminate and turn into a mobile. 4. Mandala on a CD (one class.) 5. Concepts for an umbrella mandala 6. Review and edit. A4 oil pastel or w/c plan colours. 7. Draw the design with chalk and begin painting. Criteria A: Compare 3 cultures? Still to be decided. Glogster/ Voicethread/ Movie/ Keynote/ Prezzi/ ebook This could also be taught to a local school. Students show an understanding of Mandalas their history, purpose and connection to nature.
22 Grade 8 Semester 2 Bird houses with a difference. Paper mache or plaster sculpture. 1. Look at examples of birdhouses. Discuss what is sculpture? Form vs Function. How can we make the birdhouse unique? Brainstorm. 2. Concept sketches using different forms for the bird house. Something must be added onto the form and there must be an entrance, the colours need to be bright and size min 30cms max 50cms. Consider is the bird house going to sit or hang or both. 3. Review concepts push the design further, create a colour plan. If time permits the third unit will be clay. Modelling, coil, pinch and slab techniques. A Greek burial pot with horses. 4. Make a mock up. Refine 5. Create a final oil Pastel presentation drawing of the product. Use Tone. 6. Create the final piece. Structure, details, base coat and then paint details. Evaluate and present in assembly or to elementary.
23 Grade 9/10 Drawing/ Painting Sem 1 Introduction to expectations. DWB presentation and homework time. Criteria. Work with Jennifer Art Party Kokrobitey Institute What can I do? What do I know? Contour drawing of a still life object. (10 mins) Add line variation 5mins. Discuss what is a contour and sketch drawing? How can we create line variation? 10 mins to improve work with notes. Task 2: 30mins still life with 2 objects. Sketch, line variation add tone include a choice of pattern or texture to make it visually interesting.
24 Grade 9/10 Drawing Sem 1 Art Party Make the ordinary EXTRAORDINARY. Look at the images provided what is ordinary? How is the piece extraordinary? How have the elements and principles been used? Composition? Choose an ordinary object. Sketch from a variety of angles using a variety of media. Include tone. Look at mixed media techniques and materials.
