3 INSTALLATION QUICK GUIDE Installation Quick Guide contains some brief information about how to install Seaflex Mooring System. For more information about how to install your SEAFLEX system, contact your Seaflex Sales Executive. ABOUT THIS INSTALLATION QUICK GUIDE The contents of this Installation Quick Guide are only the most important safety notices and recommendations/warnings of possible issues arising when installing SEAFLEX. This guide does not contain all necessary information to perform a correct, complete installation of your SEAFLEX mooring system. The complete Seaflex Installation Guide, pre-tension chart and other important documents are available for use by qualified installers and are sent directly from Seaflex upon request. Important note! Receiving this Installation Quick Guide does not constitute a release from demands of overall correct installation procedures, i.e. installation being performed by SIPP-trained personnel. All installations must be performed by qualified, SIPP-trained SEAFLEX installers, supervised by a qualified Seaflex Supervisor, or approved post-installation by a qualified Seaflex Supervisor. Any installations performed by a non-qualified installer voids all warranties unless the installation is approved post-installation by a qualified Seaflex Supervisor. 4 SCHACKLE Important safety notice! When your SEAFLEX units are delivered, the nuts holding the SEAFLEX shackle are not tightened. This is deliberate, to make it easier to attach the shackles to the anchor eyelets. To attach the SEAFLEX to the anchor, simply remove the shackle and attach it to the anchor eyelet. Then tighten the shackle bolt using: Nut Nm 16mm 190 (138 lbf) 12mm 76 (56 lbf) P a g e 2

5 ROPE Important safety notice! Use only rope of plaited polyester. Seaflex recommends using a square-plait polyester rope (product name GeoSquare Polyester) manufactured by Gleistein Tauwerk, supplied by Seaflex. Never use three strand-laid (twisted) rope because of elongation and tendency to twist under tension. P a g e 3

6 ATTACHING ROPE TO SEAFLEX UNITS Attach the rope to the SEAFLEX thimble by doing a quick splice as shown in the picture below. Standing part Seaflex Thimble Working end 1. Place the rope around the SEAFLEX thimble. Let the working end be approximately 0,6-1,0m 2. Thread the working end four (4) times through the standing part. 3. The Quick splice is ready! P a g e 4

7 HORIZONTAL DISTANCE Important safety notice! The actual water depth at the installation site must be crosschecked with the layout drawing. If there are deviations this must be taken into consideration when placing the anchor block. If the anchor blocks are placed based on incorrect depth information the blocks must be re-placed to achieve the required geometry of the SEAFLEX mooring system. Seaflex shall be installed with a horizontal distance of 2 times the medium water level. This means that if the medium water level is 3m the horizontal distance should be 6m. The definition of horizontal distance is shown in the figure below. To calculate the medium water level use following formula: lowest water level + highest water level 2 = medium water level If only the lowest water level and the water level variation is known, use the following formula to determine the medium water level: water level variation Lowest water level + = medium water level 2 Lowest and highest water level should be extremes recorded over a 50-year period. 8 HORIZONTAL ANGLE When looking at the layout drawing the SEAFLEX unit should be installed with a certain angle. To achieve the angle shown on the layout drawing, use the table below. The measurements A and B are explained in the figure below. That means that the B distance should be 1,4m. After finding the correct measurements, place a mark on the pontoon and adjust the barge or boat so the SEAFLEX mooring line coincides with the mark, to ensure that the 30-degree angle is achieved. 9 PRE-TENSION Important safety notice! The diagram below is just an example. Each length of SEAFLEX has its own pre-tension chart which must be used to ensure correct pre-tensioning. Please contact your Seaflex Sales Executive to receive your custom pre-tension chart. SEAFLEX shall always be pre-tensioned 30% of the original length relative to the lowest water level. If the water level is above lowest water level, use the pre-tension diagram to decide how much the SEAFLEX should be tensioned. Tension the SEAFLEX unit as much as possible by hand, make a mark on the rope and then pull the rope using a winch or similar equipment until correct pre-tension is achieved. How to interpret the pre-tension diagram: Original visible rubber length: 2,0m Pre-tension: 30% Water level: 1,0m above lowest water level EXAMPLE 2. Take the value from the y-axis 1. Read from the x-axis at 1,0m The value on the x-axis (1,0m) corresponds to 1,0m on the y-axis. This means that the Seaflex should be stretched 1,0m (from the original length of 2,0m) to achieve correct tension. See figure below. P a g e 7
