1 Comprehensive Art - Sketchbooks Why Have Sketchbooks? Sketchbook assignments are not busy work or just a reason for you to have homework. They do serve a valuable purpose. As with most activities, (sports, playing an instrument, singing, dancing, etc.), practicing the activity makes you better at it. Drawing is no different than these activities. The more you look at the world and draw it, the better you become at drawing, as well as being observant of your surroundings. Sketchbook Policy Sketchbook assignments are always due on Wednesday of each week. Your sketchbooks will be returned to you by Friday so you may complete the next assignment over the weekend. If you turn your sketchbook in on Thursday it is considered late, and you will get points off. However, if you were absent from school (not late or had an early dismissal) on a Wednesday then your sketchbook is due the day you return to school. Sketchbook assignments are a requirement and they are a part of your quarterly and final grades. Days missed during the week do not add days to the assignment s due date as this is a standing assignment. There will be a few weeks where no sketchbook assignment will be due photo challenge weeks, holiday weeks, etc. Otherwise, one assignment is due each week. You may choose which assignment you do which week. Please number the assignment in your book. You may work ahead. Grading Each sketchbook assignment will be graded out of 30 points. It is expected that you spend approximately 1 hour on each sketchbook. If it appears as though you spent less time on an assignment then points will be deducted. Your grade also depends on how well you followed directions, your creativity, and your

2 craftsmanship. If you turn your sketchbook in late, from Thursday till the following Wednesday, only 2 points will be deducted from your grade for each day it is late. After the following Wednesday, no points will be awarded for the sketchbook drawing. ASSIGNMENTS 1. CONTENTS Draw the contents of any of the following.
