1 Directions for The Hiding Place: Summer Reading Project To demonstrate your comprehension of The Hiding Place and to help you remember what you read, you will create a timeline of the story either through writing and drawing on a poster OR a PowerPoint presentation. For each chapter that you read, you will identify two main ideas and develop one illustratation. OPTION 1: POSTER Please follow these directions exactly if creating a FULL-SIZED WHITE POSTER: 1. In black ink, marker, or crayon, put THE HIDING PLACE by Corrie ten Boom at the top of your poster. 2. In the top right hand corner as a heading for your project, write: Your First & Last Name LA/LIT Summer Project (Make sure to use black or blue ink, and white-out to correct any mistakes.) 3. Draw three equidistant lines across the poster (either portrait or landscape). These lines will be a timeline for the book. There should be five chapters per line. 4. Number each entry with the number of the chapter. Example- If you re working on Chapter 6 drawing and sentences, label them Ch. 6. (See the example picture for how to do this.) 5. Above the lines, you should draw a picture representing each chapter. 6. Below the lines, in black or blue ink, you should write two sentences (not fragments), each of which identify a major event in the chapter. Number the sentences with the number of the chapter (see poster examples). Use white-out to correct any mistakes. 7. Outline each picture with a black pen or marker. 8. Erase all pencil marks. 9. Make sure all writing is done in BLACK or BLUE ink. 10. Keep your work neat and clean.

2 OPTION 2: PowerPoint or Google Slides Presentation Please follow these directions exactly if creating a PowerPoint/Google Slides presentation: 1. Create a title slide that includes THE HIDING PLACE by Corrie ten Boom along with this heading: Your First & Last Name LA/LIT Summer Project 2. Each slide will represent a chapter from your book. Therefore you will create a total of 15 slides plus one title slide at the beginning. 3. After the title slide, label each slide in order with the chapter number- Chapter 1 4. On each slide you should include one image or picture that represents the main idea(s) of the chapter. 5. Each slide should also contain two strong sentences (not fragments), each of which identify a major event in the chapter. These should be listed in two bullet points like the example. 6. Keep your work neat and clean and check your spelling and grammar. Submitting Your Project: This project should be ready to turn in on the first day of school. Bring your poster with you the first day of class. Your teacher will give you instructions for submitting the assignment via Canvas if you choose to do the project in a PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation. REMINDER: Though parents are encouraged to read and discuss The Hiding Place with their student, this project is to be completed by the student! Parents, please help your child by not doing their project for them.
