1 Introduction At Godfrey Syrett, Revit is now our default software, we have embraced its capabilities to enhance our design process and add value to it by utilising all its benefits. It is the integration of extended data into furniture models, enabling the coordinated production of information other than, but including, drawings. This ensures greater accuracy and consistency, by maintaining related data types in a single 3D model. Our design team are fully BIM enabled for collaborative working, utilizing Autodesk Revit software. For over 3 years our design team have been collaborating with main contractors and continue to coordinate successfully with Architectural, Structural and MEP. Our furniture ranges are modelled as Revit families in 3D with COBie compliant data. The models are continually updated when products are modified or new ranges included, these are all available to architects and designers. We can also attach customer specified data to help with long term asset management. Having fully integrated models allows for clash detection to be simulated between furniture, services and building elements. We have the experience of using BIM 360 to help close out all issues before any furniture is manufactured. In our experience this also improves installation efficiency whilst keeping site costs to a minimum. As drawing outputs we can produce 2D plans, elevations and 3D visuals to fully and clearly communicate our proposals. Rendered 3D images can also be produced direct from the Revit model or if a more photorealistic image is required, further enhanced by using Studio Max. Furniture take offs can be viewed as a schedule at any time, by individual room, or entire floor or building. This fully automated and integrated schedule can then be costed through our ERP software. The ability to have to a complete detailed furniture schedule helps both accuracy and speeds up design decisions being made and agreed. Within the design team with have a BIM coordinator to train and support design staff and to keep them updated with latest in the industry. 2 Birmingham City University / Overview Scheme; The Curzon Building is a 24,300m² state-of-the-art facility at the BCU City Centre Campus, which following this development, is home to Business, English, Law and Social Sciences students. The impressive 6 storey building provides a student support hub as well as a new library, teaching and IT space, plus other student-facing facilities. The project also included the complete restoration of a Victorian pub, The Eagle and Ball, which will offer a unique new home to the Students Union. Challenge; Working in Partnership with both the University Project team and Wilmott Dixon Construction, the Godfrey Syrett team worked within in BIM environment, collaborating with the project team to provide a complete furniture solution, The finished installation incorporated an innovative use of space, with modern furniture with enhanced colour and texture. Use of BIM; To plan and manage this complicated project, our team used building information modelling (BIM) Level 2 extensively. The BIM model was developed with input from all project stakeholders, led by Associated Architects and Willmott Dixon. All the subcontractors contributed to the model. BIM reduced the build programme by eight weeks and secured 240,000 savings. Key benefits of using BIM were; Clash detection - zero clashes meant zero redesign work; 3D modelling to level of detail 300 Task management using 3D model (360 field), to help programme work of subcontractors 4D simulation both pre and post contract
