1 St. Monica Food Pantry ELECTRICAL WORK DIVISION 26 SECTION INTERIOR LIGHTING FIXTURES PART 1. GENERAL 1.1 WORK INCLUDES A. Extent, location, and details of interior lighting fixture work are indicated on drawings, in schedules and as specified hereinafter. B. Types of interior lighting fixtures in this section include the following: 1) Removal, cleaning, testing, relaying, re-lamping and re-installation of existing fluorescent fixtures; 2) The installation of owner furnished lighting fixtures; 3) New Contractor furnished and installed lighting fixtures: (a) LED 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. General: 1) Submittals shall be made on all items in this section and shall be in accordance with Division 01, Section and Division 26, Section Electrical Submittals. B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data, independent testing lab photometric data, including fixture specifications and installation instructions, for each type of lighting fixture required. Include data substantiating that materials comply with requirements. C. Maintenance Data: Submit maintenance data and parts lists for each type of lighting fixture installed, including furnished specialties and accessories. Include this data, product data, and shop drawings in maintenance manual; in accordance with requirements of the General Conditions of this Specification. 1.3 PREREQUISITE CONDITIONS A. The General Conditions, Supplemental General Conditions and Special Conditions are part of this contract and requirements set forth in those sections apply to all work in this division of the specifications. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer's Qualifications: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of interior lighting fixtures of sizes, types and ratings required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less than five (5) years. B. Installer's Qualifications: Firms with at least three (3) years of successful installation experience on projects with interior lighting fixture work similar to that required for this project. C. Electrical Code Compliance: Comply with applicable local code requirements of the authority having jurisdiction and NEC Articles 220, 410, and 510 as applicable to installation, and construction of interior building lighting fixtures. D. NEMA Compliance: Comply with applicable requirements of NEMA Stds Pub/No.'s LE 1 and LE 2 pertaining to lighting equipment. E. IES Compliance: Comply with IES RP-1 pertaining to general lighting practices and RP-15, regarding selection of illuminance values for interior office lighting. sys-tek, P.A. 2 St. Monica Food Pantry F. UL Compliance: Comply with UL standards, including UL 486A and B, pertaining to interior lighting fixtures. Provide interior lighting fixtures and components which are UL-listed and labeled. G. Work in this division shall include all lighting fixtures as specified and as called for on plans and shall also include lamps as required installed in fixtures. Lighting fixtures shall be complete including hickeys, suspension nipples, connectors and all other material and equipment as required for re-hanging fixtures in accordance with the National Electrical Code. Fixtures and lamps shall be wiped clean before and after installation. PART 2. PRODUCTS 2.1 LIGHTING FIXTURES A. All recessed incandescent lighting fixtures shall be furnished to comply with requirements of NEC (c) and shall be U.L. approved and labeled in accordance with UL Fixtures recessed in all ceilings, other than suspended T-bar lay-in panel ceilings, shall be U.L. type "I.C." without thermal protection or U.L. "Non-I.C." with thermal cutout protection, and both types shall bear the appropriate U.L. label. Fixtures for use in suspended T-bar panel ceilings shall be U.L. Labeled "For Use in Suspended Ceilings Only". The above requirements do not apply to fixtures recessed in concrete construction, but fixtures so mounted shall be approved for recessing in concrete. B. Any flat acrylic lens specified in fluorescent fixtures shall be a minimum of.125" thick, KSH type K12, or approved equal, unless otherwise shown in schedule on fixtures. C. Fixtures shall be wired with color coded fixture wire approved for temperature involved. Circuitry wiring run in fluorescent fixture channels shall be 'THHN" or "XHHW" and not less than #12 AWG. D. Unless shown or specified otherwise, fixtures are specified by type identified by letter shown on drawings adjacent to outlet. All fixtures shall be Underwriter's label. Finish on all metal parts, unless specified, shall be applied after fixture fabrication, and shall be as directed by the Architect. E. Where lighting fixtures are installed in suspended ceilings, the lighting fixture shall be securely attached to the building structure with a minimum of two (2) 12 gauge safety wires located at opposite ends of the lighting fixture and the ceiling support system shall be adequately supported at each corner of the lighting fixture. F. Where lighting fixtures are specified or called out on drawings to have a fire rated enclosure, the Contractor shall furnish and install an approved fire rated enclosure to completely enclose the lighting fixture above the ceiling. The enclosure shall be constructed of an approved fire rated material to maintain the fire rating of the ceiling and shall be held together with a fire, and heat resistant adhesive and steel pins or nails. The top of the enclosure shall have a 4" square opening located above each ballast for ventilation. Submit shop drawings for approval. G. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of one of the following (for each type of interior lighting fixture): LED 1) CREE 2) Williams 3) Hubbell 4) Lithonia 5) Prescolite sys-tek, P.A. 3 St. Monica Food Pantry EXIT LIGHTS A. Exit lights shall be dual voltage AC/DC rated for voltages shown. Illumination source shall be Light EMITTING Diodes (LED's). Provide automatic transfer circuit to transfer to 48 DC source on loss of AC source where shown. B. Exit lights furnished with 6" high stencil letters. Use red LED's. Verify color used with local codes, if a different color is required; indicate on the shop drawing submittal. Exit lights wired for separate AC and DC circuits as shown. C. Exit lights shall be interlocked with Fire Alarm system to flash where required by the local authorities having jurisdiction. Coordinate flashing circuit required with Fire Alarm System Vendor. 2.3 BALLASTS A. Ballasts for fluorescent fixtures, unless specified or indicated otherwise, shall be 430 MA. energy saving type, long life, high power factor, rapid-start, premium Class "P", non-drip, with automatic resetable thermal cutout protection, U.L., CBM, and ETL approved, sound rated "A". Input energy savings shall be no less than 11% of the normal conventional Class "P" ballast. Ballasts shall be General Electric, "Watt-Miser"; Advance "Mark III"; Universal "Watt Reducer", or approved equal. Specific data on ballasts shall be submitted with light fixture shop drawings. Ballasts that produce objectionable noise after installation of the fixtures, in the opinion of the Architect, shall be removed and replaced by the Contractor and at no extra cost. B. All ballast shall be for operating at 120 volts unless otherwise indicated on drawings, or schedule of lighting fixtures. Contractor shall verify exact voltage prior to submission of shop drawings. C. All ballasts for twin tube and double twin tube type fluorescent fixtures shall be high power factor type. D. Acceptable Electronic Fluorescent Ballast Manufacturers: 1) Advance 2) Magnetek 3) Motorola 4) Universal PART 3. EXECUTION 3.1 CEILING GRID SYSTEM A. The Contractor and fixture supplier shall verify the type of ceiling grid system being used and shall provide assurance that the lighting fixtures being supplied for this project shall have the proper type of trim for the type of grid and ceiling material being used and that the lighting fixture will fit the grid system and remain secure within the ceiling grid system. Clips shall be installed to prevent grid spread from the lighting fixtures. 3.2 INSTALLATION OF INTERIOR LIGHTING FIXTURES A. Install interior lighting fixtures at locations and heights as indicated on drawings. B. Support fixtures from structural members of building, independent of ceiling. Support grid type fixtures from ceiling. Arrange with ceiling contractor for extra ceiling support. Provide one support at each corner of 2'X4' and larger fixtures, and one at each end at opposite corners of 1'x4' and 2'x2' fixtures. C. Provide devices for securing fixture to ceiling grid to comply with NEC (B). D. Submit hanging details to Consultant before fixture installation. sys-tek, P.A. 4 St. Monica Food Pantry E. Wire grid fixtures with flexible conduit individually to junction boxes. Do not wire fixture to fixture. F. Anchor high intensity discharge fixtures mounted in ceiling or on wall to structure. Support recessed ceiling fixtures independent of ceiling construction; supports to consist of 1/4" diameter bolts or rods. G. Support recessed incandescent fixtures with 3/4" black iron ceiling channel, one piece on each side of fixture, anchored to ceiling system. Support large recessed incandescent fixtures over 20 pounds independent of furred ceiling system with rods, size as required, anchored to structure. H. Support surface and pendant incandescent fixtures from 3/8" fixture stud in outlet box. Large surface or pendant incandescent fixtures (in excess of 20 pounds) with 3/8" rod run through the outlet box to structure and anchored independent of ceiling and conduit systems. I. Support surface and pendant fluorescent fixtures independent of furred ceiling with 1/4" rods anchored to structure. Provide one support for each 4 feet of fixture length, minimum of two supports required. Support fixtures mounted on grid type ceiling independent of ceiling with rods to structure. J. Provide plaster frames for recessed fluorescent luminaries in plaster and concealed spline ceilings supported independent of ceiling construction with 1/4" rod anchored to structure. K. Individual flexible connections to fixtures shall be made with 2#14 and 1#14 (ground) THHN-2 in 3/8" flexible conduit. Bond ground wire at each end. L. Stems on fluorescent fixtures shall be installed as follows (except fixtures with slide grip hangers): First and last stem in row shall be installed in first knockout from end of fixtures; one stem shall be installed between each two fixtures connect intermediate stems to center joint where fixtures join and attach by use of "joining plates". Provide adequate number of stems to completely support fixtures and keep fixtures aligned straight and plumb. M. Connect fixtures in continuous rows other than recessed grid type connected by nipples with locknuts and bushings. N. Furnish complete manufacturers shop drawing for continuous fixtures s O. Coordinate fixture installation with the other trades on the project prior to installation of ductwork, ceilings, etc. to eliminate any conflictions prior to construction of space. 3.3 GUARANTEE A. All lighting fixtures, components, accessories etc., except lamps, shall be guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for one (1) year from date of inservice acceptance by Owner. Replacement shall include parts and labor at the site of the work for the term of the warranty. B. Lamps shall be guaranteed as specified above. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Replace defective and burned out lamps for a period of one year following the Date of Substantial Completion. B. At Date of Substantial Completion, replace lamps in interior lighting fixtures which are observed to be noticeably dimmed after Contractor's use and testing, as determined by the Architect. C. Clean interior lighting fixtures of dirt and construction debris upon completion of installation. Clean fingerprints and smudges from lenses and lamps. D. Protect installed fixtures from weather and damage during remainder of construction period. E. Provide equipment grounding connections for interior lighting fixtures as indicated. sys-tek, P.A. Upon completion of installation of interior lighting fixtures, and after building circuitry has been energized, apply electrical energy to demonstrate capability and compliance with requirements. Where possible, correct malfunctioning units at site, then retest to demonstrate compliance; otherwise, remove and replace with new units, and proceed with retesting. END OF SECTION sys-tek, P.A.
