Enclosed in this package are all the things required to give your designer the information they will need to create the perfect solution for you. Your package includes: 1. Project Information Form 2. Step By Step Measuring Guide 3. Laser Distance Measurer Instructions for perfect measurements (if ordered) The key to successfully designing your kitchen is the detailed measurements you provide, letting us know your storage needs and what size & type of appliances will be in the Kitchen. These are some key areas to pay special attention to: 1. Ceiling Height where wall cabinets will be placed. Do the ceilings in these areas have Soffits, bulkheads, or are they vaulted, etc? 2. Window Size/Location (take into consideration the casing around the window). Note the window height and sill height from floor. 3. Existing floor staying in place or new floor going in (how thick is new floor)? 4. Existing Flooring type, if it stays, is your floor up to or underneath your cabinets? 5. Adding up accumulative wall dimensions that match the overall wall dimension. 6. Location of Plumbing 7. Height/Location of outlets, switches, and phone jacks that are on the same walls as cabinetry. 8. Center Line of vented hood (not re-circulating) 9. Return Walls, when these are left off we do not add fillers that may be necessary and we finish sides that may not need it adding unnecessary expense to your kitchen. 10. Size and Location of proposed appliances that will be used. This is key to planning proper openings & cabinet types for your kitchen. 11. Wish List of functions in addition to items. What type of storage are you most interested in for your new kitchen? Do you have lots of pots and pans to store? What do you want your new kitchen to have storage-wise, that your existing kitchen does not? Is there anything about your current kitchen that you really like? What do you dislike the most? The forms in these package will cover all these areas. The laser measurer will give precise dimensions and eliminate errors due to sagging tape measures or mis-reading those tiny lines on the tape measure. All that s required is grid paper, pencil and your laser tape measure. Accuracy is the key to a successful project, so take your time and be sure to double check all measurements. Make copies of the grid paper at the end of this guide for more accurate plans. STRAIT-LINE LASER MEASURER USE INSTRUCTIONS: 1. After installing the batteries press the READ button to activate the measurer 2. Ensure that the measurer is set to inches only. To change, press the SEL button and then press the right arrow button to select U and then press SEL 3. Press the READ button to activate the laser beam 4. Position the laser measurer in corner or end of wall as shown below. The unit is designed to measure from the bottom of the unit. 5. Press READ button again to take the measure, read the inches on the screen and post to your drawing. 6. To clear a measurement press the button with the C on it. 6

7 STEP #1 Begin in any corner of the room with laser measurer at waist height, and measure to an adjacent wall. Always measure in inches only, not feet and inches! Record your first measurement and continue around the room measuring all walls where cabinetry will be installed. Once completed, draw the floor plan and add your measurements like the example below. START MEASURING HERE When measuring a wall which has a corner at each end, place the measurer in the corner at one end and measure into the next corner. When measuring a wall which doesn t have a corner at each end, place the bottom of the measurer at the end of the wall run and measure into the corner. When measuring inside a room such as a pantry simply measure from corner to corner where cabinets will be placed. 7

8 STEP #2 Now, measure all doors, windows and wall openings. Any door trim, window trim or opening trim is considered part of the opening, and should be included in your measurement. Record your measurements (in inches) on the charts provided below for reference in the next step. 9 STEP #3 The next step is to locate all the openings on your floor plan. Measure from the wall corner to outside edge of opening trim and locate on drawing. Add opening dimension and then, measure from outside edge of trim to adjacent wall. Repeat process for all openings. Identify all openings from the charts above and then label wall numbers for future elevation drawing reference. When placing doors on drawing, be sure to indicate which way the door opens. Double check that by adding up your individual measurements for each wall here it is the same as your overall measurement in Step #1. 9

10 STEP #4 Create an elevation drawing of each wall showing window and door locations, finished ceiling height, soffits (if applicable), and any suspended light fixtures that may interfere with design. Consult the universal symbols guide below and identify all service/utility locations. Lastly, identify any obstructions that may create problems with the design (radiators, hood/exhaust vents, chimney chases and any heat registers). Don t forget if you have a vented stove hood that you give us the center line measurement. 10
