This second volume of Titan's collection of AlexRaymond's FLASH GORDON is just as careful and faitfhul as the previous one, overall design and supplemental text pieces included. Pay no attention to the now usual "Item under review" notice. It has become the standard reaction from Amazon when they receive enough complaints about damaged items due to improper packaging, something that has become more and more frequent of late. The only thing "under review" here should be Amazon's packaging service and its alarming decline. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. REVIEW: FLASH GORDON VOL.2 - THE TYRANT OF MONGO By Andres Avila This second volume of the adventures of Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon that spanned published by Titan Books is, dare I say, better than the first one. The artwork this time seems more intricate than the first time around. This could be due to a better transfer of the originals or to Alex Raymond's art getting more refined as he became more experienced drawing the characters and such. The introduction by Doug Murray this time gives us an insight of the progression Flash Gordon did from the printed page to the silver screen thanks to the Universal Pictures serials starring Buster Crabbe. Honestly, I find myself looking forward to these "chapters" of the character's history as much as the stories that come along with it. We also learn that Raymond used live models for his art! The stories, largely introduce us to the adventures of Flash Gordon in Arboria where we meet Prince Barin and his band of warriors. It's a fun read and the artwork is a delight to look at. The publisher even reproduces the tiny dots from the printing process which used to appear in old comic books up to the 1980's, something the most nostalgic of us truly miss. By Bobby Titan gets it right! I own the Kitchen Sink Press Flash Gordon books and yes they look very good, they have glossy pages and bright colors but that is not how they looked in the original newspapers. I love the way Titan has used a paper that is high quality that gives the colors and printing the look that the strips had back in their day. While at the same time making the strips look as good as or better than the day they were first printed. It is about time someone showed the love and attention these strips deserve and collect the entire run of Flash Gordon. I will be in line to buy every book of the series and I hope you will too.
