PAGE 44 Plas Doly Moch These are some of the Journals written by the children on our recent Dol y Moch trip. Today we went canoeing, so I got all of my equipment on. We went to the canoe store and wore a special vest called a buoyancy aid. Also we had to each hold a paddle. We went in the minibus. It took along time to get there but we arrived. We went in the canoe and went to go. It took a long time but we paddled and we stopped for hot chocolate. After hot chocolate we carried on and arrived. I was sweating to death!! I think Dol-y-Moch has changed my life. By Owais Today was the muckiest day EVER! In the morning we went to a stupendous river called the Afon Dwyrdd. We had to paddle for 1 mile also we battled the wind because it was pushing us back! But then afterwards the wind and the tide was with us and it pushed in the right direction. (Here s a tip: When you are canoeing in a river and the wind is with you, put your paddle up and let the wind do all the work). By Aysha Today was a brilliant day. We had to go underground and explore what the Victorians used to do in a mine when they looked for lead. It was fun because the water went over our knees and it was freezing COLD! After a while our instructor told us about a man called Mr. Jones who used to have a helpful dog and he worked in the mine. Basically what happened in the story is that Mr. Jones was blown up in a mishap and his dog went to look for his master. Legend says that Mr. Jones dog is still alive and looking for his master so if you ever go underground in Bwlch y plwm be very very careful By Sumaiyah By Sabiha
PAGE 5 PAGE 5 Today I woke up as early as possible as we were told we were going to go to the seaside. Before this excitement was going to start we came down stairs to the canteen and had some hot chocolate and made our own sandwiches. In my sandwich I put cheese, cucumber and butter. After we had made our sandwiches we went to an assembly. This wasn t an ordinary assembly like we have in school. After the assembly we went to the seaside that I was looking forward to since I arrived at Plas Dol y Moch. When we got there I was joyfully running around finding souvenirs and all sorts of stuff. After the amazing exploration around the seaside Andrea the lady from Dol-y-Moch that took us to the beach led us to the gigantic ice-cream parlor and brought us all ice-creams! After the awesome ice-creams we had we came back to Plas Dol y Moch and as we had had such a long tiring day we went straight to bed! by Yahya Today I really enjoyed myself because we went to the MOUNTAIN! The best part of the day for me was when we were at the top of the mountain. I liked this part of the day because the view was stunning. I could see a bit of Mount Snowdon which was a treat. The way down was also a lot of fun because we went at a fast but safe pace which gave me an adrenalin rush. In the evening we did the night line which was scary but fun. I thought it was fun because we had to work as a team and remember the objects we found. We also worked as a team. In our team was me (Yaqoub), Mustafa, Aysha and Atfa. I enjoyed working with this amazing team. Overall I would rate my day ten out of ten. IT WAS GREAT DAY!!! By Yaqoub Swiftly, me, Qasim, Yahya, Saif and Owais set out in to the wild to do some orienteering and tried to find our way back to the buses with maps and compasses. We had maps and on them, there were numbers that meant there were orienteering kites with stamps and papers for stamping so we know we had been to that number. We had completed 2 numbers then we had to find 9 we got lost in the middle of nowhere but eventually managed to find our way out. it was great fun. by Owais U
This year, was an ecstatic year for the school football team. They gradually reclaimed their title that was stolen from them by Saint Benedict's.They won all their games against their rivals. They got into the quarter final of the cup and still remain unbeaten, as the best team in the whole of Coventry! The netball team have won every match in the tournament so far, thanks to the support of Mr Shebl and Miss Ruane. They played three matches against Stivichall, Keresley Grange B team and Spongate and won. Maryam, Farjana, Britany, Hussnain, Mahida, Abdullahi, Asad and Aysha all represented John Gulson.

Place 2 baking bits on each face for eyes and 1 baking bit for nose. Place white candy sprinkles in cheeks for whiskers. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool for 1 minute and remove to a wire rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
This year s theme was superheroes. Children at John Gulson have been raising money for the cause. Thanks to pupils and staff we have amazingly raised 628. A special thanks should be given to Mrs Sutton who helped us immensely with the challenge by selling the red noses.!thankyou EVERYBODY! Jessie J bravely shaved off all of her hair to raise more money for Comic Relief.
How many words can you make out of THIS... WRITE YOUR ANSWERS HERE:
On the 15th of March 2013 it was World Book Day when the whole world celebrated books. Our school participated by dressing up as their favourite book character. Also children brought their best book to share with their class. Year 6 decided to make their own auto biography cover. Everyone collected a book token handed out by the generous office staff. These are the books produced for World Book Day: We all hope you have enjoyed World Book Day! BY LEENA AND SANAH
On the 14th of March 2013 year 5 children took part in a science exhibition at the excel centre in London. While they were there they saw and learned a great deal such as : they learnt how to use a robotic machine called Romour, they had to make the biggest total out of a square of numbers. Their total was an astonishing figure of 886. Also they saw a live show called Braniac, during the show they were shown an exploding microwave using gases. During the explosion a picture on the whiteboard told us: CAUTION! PLEASE COVER YOUR EARS. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! In addition to this the children in one of the groups, challenged themselves to build a miniscule cube (which was made out of green foam) in an extremely short time of 1.30 minutes.! Finally, after an action-packed day, it was time to go back to school. Written by Hannah, 5CS
On Tuesday 12th of March, three year six students-sannah, Yaqoub and Anes took part in the semi finals of the Debating competition sponsored by the Rotary Clubs. They produced their debate in the council chambers and they were against Wyken Croft. The debate topic was: Should people holiday in Britain rather than abroad. After the debate was ended the John Gulson team gave a sigh of relief. The speakers were amazing and they beat Wyken Croft. But would it be enough? The teams (there were eight altogether in the finals) went for a break to ease their minds and to have a nibble to eat. Eventually, it was to meet their fate as they entered the Council Chambers once more. The judges had made their final decision The team that were to go through to the finals were not John Gulson. The team gave a moan of despair. It was a harsh decision but it could not be helped. After the tour of the Council House the teams listened to the final and soon later made the way back to school.
