CR at L., three plus margins, this variety is not listed on cover, unusual specialized item $ Certifications: 1999 PFC 4 GEORGE S. PATTON, JR., Typed certificate signed "G.S. Patton Jr.", dated Jan. 7, 1919 when he was a colonel of Tank Corps, the certificate certified Thomas H. Hunt to operate a gas engine tank driving a 37mm machine gun from the 302nd Center Tank School and 304th Brigade Practical School, there is some staining present around the corners and into the signature, folded into quarters, an extremely early Patton signature, Very Fine, (Estimate 900-1,000) c Orange Brown, 26, Tied on cover to N.Y. with N.Y. CDS, the stamp has a damaged transfer variety at the L.L., stamp is Very Fine, amazing color and rich impression, exceptionally rare shade on cover $

2 5 ZACHARY TAYLOR, Signed on early recipt for land, dated April 4th, 1807 when Taylor was just 22 years old, signed "Zach'y Taylor" at B.R., Taylor joined the army two years later and went on to have a distinguished military career, then became President in 1849, Taylor's signatures are very rare and often trade in the five figure range, this particular document may possibly be the earliest known usage of his signature, most unusual and very attractive piece, (Estimate 2,500-3,000) JAMES K. POLK, Large document (14 1/2 x 17 1/2) signed as President on heavy vellum, Naval Appointment commissioning Charles Simmons Second Lieutenant in the 9th Regiment, also signed by W.L. Marcy the Secretary of War, dated May 26, 1847, very attractive with an eagle vignette at T. and a multiple flags vignette at B., there are a couple of folds and some tone spots but the overall appearance of this document is Extremely Fine and exceptionally attractive, Polk signatures are extremely rare and seldom offered on any item any where, (Estimate 1,750-2,000) ANDREW JOHNSON, Personal letter paper manuscript signed as President, dated August 17, 1865, appointing Ferdinand Andrews to the office of Second Auditor of the Treasury, neatly signed "Andrew Johnson Pres.", this document was signed just four months after taking office, attractive and Extremely Fine, a very scarce signature in superior condition, (Estimate 1,750-2,000) --- 4

3 8 RUTHERFORD B. HAYES, Signed using full name on August 22, 1888 printed Address of General E.P. Seammon, Hayes attended the reunion of the 23rd Regiment of Ohio volunteers at Lakeside, Ohio, the program has been folded and there is some soiling, Hayes rarely signed his long name rather than the more common "R.B. Hayes", his signature in general is very scarce, interesting item, (Estimate 1,500-1,750) MILLARD FILLMORE, Signed Free Frank as Vice President on cover to Oswego, N.Y., red "Washington D.C. FREE" HC which is dated Dec. 1 and probably 1849 since he was only the V.P. for a short time in before becoming President in 1850, the cover has some faults including a tear at B.L., the signature is intact, overall Very Fine appearance and attractive cover, also Fillmore's signature is quite scarce with many examples retailing in the $5-10k range, worth a good look, (Estimate 1,250-1,500)-- 10 ANDREW JACKSON, Signed land grant for 80 acres on Jan. 26, 1832, heavy vellum with multiple folds and some faults, large sized, also signed by Elijah Hayward Commissioner of the Land Grant Office, Very Fine and quite scarce, (Estimate 1,250-1,500) --- 5

4 11 BENJAMIN HARRISON, Personally penned letter on Executive Mansion letterhead 4 1/2 x 7, written and signed as President on March 16, 1892, to Mrs. J.S. Clarkson in Ashville, N.C., the letter has some edge toning, included is his personally addressed sending envelope with 2c Red stamp affixed, interesting document and quite scarce, Very Fine, (Estimate 1,500-2,000) JOHN ADAMS, Cut signature mounted on heavy stock with notations at T. & B., Adams was the 2nd President after serving as V.P. under Washington for two terms, his signature is rare and seldom available in the marketplace, Fine example of this extraordinary item, (Estimate 1,250-1,500) ULYSSES S. GRANT, Signed printed Postmaster appointment document (17 x 11) dated March 18, 1973, signed "U.S. Grant", the document is also signed by the then Secretary of State Hamilton Fish, some folding but away from the signature, a nice looking document and quite scarce, this document sold at auction back in 1997 for $1,200.00, (Estimate ) --- U.S. PROOFS & ESSAYS 14 E 3c Scarlet, 65E15f, Essay on India, four clear margins, fresh and Extremely Fine $ E 3c Dark Red, 79E25a, Plate Essay on hard white transparent wove, B.
