I thought I was getting quite competent at first until I got confident enough to try playing against some more experienced chess veterans, wherein I then realized how much more I had to learn about the game. I picked up this book in an attempt to learn some new strategies and tricks and I can truly say that it has improved my game substantially. My brother, who has been playing for FAR longer than me, has even noticed a huge difference in my chess skills and I think that's a great testament to the quality of the material that can be found in "How to Play Chess for Beginners".What I admire most about this book is that the writing style is incredibly straightforward and professional, yet it's also overlapped with a smooth, almost-conversational tone that prevents the book from feeling like a chore to read. Keep in mind, this book doesn't delve too far into the more advanced stages of the game - but from a beginner's perspective, I would consider this to be an absolute must-read for anyone that is new to chess whom may want a headstart. Definitely worth checking out! This is a great book for those that are new to chess and will help improve even an experienced

I learned a lot from this book and I am very grateful to have come across it.if you are trying to really get a grasp of this wonderful game, then you have found the opportunity to do just that. This book is full of strategies that will keep you get ahead of the competition and even make a novice player a strong opponent.i recommend this mainly to those that are wanting to learn to play chess, it will teach you valuable information that I haven't seen anywhere else.this is a solid resource and you won't be the least bit disappointed! This book details all the basic steps for those who are starting to play chess. I have always had difficulty understanding the game, so when I saw this book, I wanted to check it out. When other people had tried to explain it to me, but I had a hard time remembering what they had told me were the correct moves for each piece. Having a handy guide available wherever I go gives me the ability to sharpen my game and refresh my memory. With simple instruction and visual aides this book can teach anyone how to play this universal game of wit and learn strategies that will give them the edge in a match. A very good selection if you are just beginning or getting back into chess after many years of not playing. I have purchased other books which were supposed to be easy to read and understandable for the beginner or amateur. I was disappointed with all except this one. I definitely recommend this book. The book is really good with graphical explanations.the book is well written and simple to understand. It has good tips and takes time to explain various moves to make the reader understand the techniques of playing chess. Excellent, I learned the game of chess in the 3rd grade, I'm now fifty and never really knew the game until I read this book, very well written and explained, will highly recommend it. Very disappointing. This is an unedited printout from a website, which explains the misleading text about colors noted elsewhere. The first ten pages are a useful and concise explanation of the game basics but it's all downhill from there. The next page is mostly devoted to explaining at length an outdated system of notation; this belongs in an endnote at best. The compilation of 'Chess Language' includes terms I have never used or come across in 50+ years of playing (zugzwang? x-ray?). The examples of openings often consist of a single move with no commentary. Who could

4 learn from that? A player with some experience can find useful notes scattered here and there, but there are many much better books for true beginners. This might work as a web page, but no effort was made in rendering it into book format. This is a great read. And it works. My husband is glad to have a new chess partner.
