It is no longer alertable. Similarly: 1H (1S) 3H Likewise, a TNT style raise (1H) 1S (2C) 3S. This sequence may show a 4 card fit and less than 10 HCP, and is not alertable. Alerting rules are unchanged in respect of these bids in a non-competitive auction e.g. 1D 3D showing as weak hand when playing inverted minors or 1D 2D showing a strong hand. A change of suit by responder as an unpassed hand in a competitive or non-competitive auction is still alertable if not forcing e.g. 1C 2H in Precision, or 1D (1S) 2C when playing negative free bids. From BLML Declarer plays a diamond. Before LHO can play to the trick, declarer says "ruff". LHO plays a low diamond. Dummy says "you have to follow suit", which is true. 5 Peter: Yes, LHO may change his played card. Law 57 C2 tells us that the diamond ruff is a played card. This played card constitutes a (not-yet-established) revoke, which is not brought to the attention of anybody yet. LHO plays after both hands of declarer have played to the trick. Now the revoke is noticed and declarer has to change his play from dummy. hmmm. L57C2 has deep consequences: A premature play (not a lead) by declarer from either hand is a played card and may not be withdrawn. This obligation takes precedence over all other requirements of these Laws." "Following suit" is possible until it is too late to correct a revoke. I'll take this opportunity to correct my error: Because such card may not be withdrawn in the circumstance L62B is muted in the circumstance. L57C2 merely creates an additional circumstance beyond which "Following suit" is no longer "possible". 6 Apologies: Jo, Steve M, Lex Administrative matters: 1. I was agreed that the directors of the club comprise a Directors Committee, and this would discuss any points to do with bridge in the club as well as the usual discussion about laws and cases. The existing directors meetings on the first Thursday of each month would become meetings of the Directors Committee, but directors from other clubs will still be invited to the meetings. The expectation is that the Directors Committee will refer any decisions to the Management Committee to be discussed and hopefully adopted. It is also hoped that the Management Committee would refer any relevant issues to the Directors Committee before making decisions themselves. Peter will raise this at the first meeting of the new Management Committee on Thursday 12 September. 2. The issue of substitutes in club championship events was discussed. The current policy us that a substitution will be allowed as long as the substitute is an equal or lower rank that the player being replaced. It was agreed that this can be undesirable in the cases of (a) the substitute being of a much higher standard than the replaced player even though they had the same or fewer masterpoints and (b) replacing a player with a much weaker player distorts the field and is unfair to those pairs who met the proper pair in a different session. It was agreed that the policy should be changed so that all substitutions need to be approved by the director of the event, and the director will look to ensure fairness in the arrangement before approving a substitution. This matter will be referred to the Management Committee in order to be adopted and written into the club regulations. Cases Opening bid was double but replaced immediately with 1D before the director was called. What law has precedence 25B (intended change of call) or 36 (inadmissible double)? 2D 2NT 3NT 3C. Trumps split 2-3 but the player holding 3 trumps failed to follow suit to the second lead, and subsequently trumps in twice during play, making both tricks. The declaring side had all top trumps down to the 9, and the declarer could still have drawn all trumps on a 4-1 break. Does law 64C permit an adjustment beyond the automatic one trick penalty?
