1 Celebrating 100 Years Strong & Still Growing Debbie Carman, President TRENTON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DECEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER HOLIDAY HOOPS Teresa Cross, Director of the NCMC Foundation, says that again over 250 volunteers will be needed to continue to make this event the success it has become and with more participation than ever before, more volunteers will be needed. The 8th annual high school basketball event will consist of ten big days of games will begin on Dec 19-22, continue on 26-29, 31 and wrap up on Jan 2 with volunteers needed in may capacities. Now the largest high school holiday basketball program in the entire state, the NCMC Foundation sponsored event has attracted over 91 teams from 49 high schools in Missouri and Iowa for Persons interested in serving as a Holiday Hoops volunteer should contact the NCMC Foundation office at extension A total of 66 games will be played in the shoot-out format and all the games will be played at the Ketcham Community Center on the campus of NCMC. Admission per session (4 games per session) is $5 for adults, $3 students K-College, free for preschoolers. KCC passes will not be accepted for admission. OUR MISSION The mission of the Chamber of Commerce is to promote commercial, industrial, and community growth and facilitate community cooperation through communication, education and long range planning. I want to take this opportunity to say that I truly value my working relationship with each and every one of you and look forward to working with you in the New Year. 4 Page 4 NEW MEMBERS Great Western Dining - Great Western Dining has been providing foodservice for North Central Missouri College for many years via the college cafeteria and Cross Coffee Shop (located in Cross Hall). Jeff Smith is the manager. Body by Vi (Independent Representative Doug Hunt) - Doug provides folks with supplements to assist with health, wellness and weight loss. He is an independent representative for Visalus products. LIGHT A CANDLE PROJECT This Christmas season, you can Light a Candle of Hope through your generous financial gift to the North 65 Center and make a difference in the life of the elderly. Your donation provides help with home delivery meal costs, dine-in meal costs, center equipment and building repair and maintenance. You can light a candle in memory of or in honor of a loved one. A candle card will be placed on the Christmas Tree at the North 65 Center in memory of or in honor of your loved one or designee. Visit the North 65 Center for more information. CHAMBER CO-SPONSORS CHRISTMAS PROJECT The Chamber is partnering with the Trenton Fire Department to help provide toys for kids this Christmas. If you or a family you know is needing assistance during the Christmas season with toys, please contact the Family Support Division Office at 2926 Oklahoma Avenue. A toy voucher will be issued which can be brought to the Emergency Service Complex at 1001 E 17th Street for a free toy. Please drop off your new or gently used toy(s) either to the Chamber or the Fire Department.

5 Page 5 MARCH MERCHANT MADNESS The Chamber is beginning a new event that will be helping to give back to our members and community. Starting Monday, December 3rd, tickets will be available for a $20 donation to the Chamber for March Merchant Madness. During the month of March, there will be a number drawn each day (according to Missouri Pick 3 Lottery evening drawing). The lucky winner will have the option to take the gift certificate for that day or take the cash pay-out (example: March 1st - $600 gift certificate to Lauhoff Jewelry or $450 cash). There will be a prize awarded EVERY DAY in March (as long as ALL 1000 tickets are sold). You have 31 chances to win a prize!! To purchase a ticket or for more information, please call the Chamber or stop by. There are ONLY 1000 TICKETS, so get yours early! These would make wonderful stocking stuffers, birthday gifts or anniversary gifts! 6 Page 6 MEMBER MOMENTS The Wright Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Cook Books have arrived and are ready for purchase. Each book is a $10 donation and the proceeds will go towards to the purchase of new uniforms for our volunteers. Stop by the hospital gift shop to purchase a copy. These will make great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. Farmers Bank of Northern MO has announced the retirement of Jim Cox, December 31. Rick Klinginsmith will be the new branch manager. Loan Officer, Amy Lewis has been promoted to a Vice-President joining Deanna Washburn and Logan Wyant has been hired as a loan officer. Grand River Valley Choir & Orchestra will be performing at First Baptist Church on Saturday, December 8th at 3:00pm. No admission fee. Trenton Downtown Christmas The Trenton Downtown Christmas Event will be December 7th from 5:00-7:30p. Opening ceremonies and lighting of the Christmas tree with the mayor will be at 5:30. Lots of activities are planned for the evening. Santa and his elves will also be at Sesquicentennial Park. Children are invited to come sit on Santa s lap. There are many things to do, like watching live window displays, view the live nativity scene, participate in the food drive, enjoy popcorn wagon rides, horse and carriage rides, tractor and wagon rides, check out the soup supper at the Masonic Hall, eat some kettle corn, donate to the toy drive sponsored by the Fire Department, donate eye glasses (sponsored by the Lions Club) while visiting The Barn downtown and stop in the see the heated museum. Be sure to take your camera to the museum as there will be many photo opportunities at the different Christmas stations. Kids will absolutely love watching the electric train running on 125-foot track while visiting the museum. After checking out all the really cool stuff downtown, head on over to Chumbleys for a concert/ dance starting at 8:00p and continuing until 11p. Riker is the band who will be playing. You can check them out at Kids 9 and under are free with parents. There is an $8 cover charge at the door for anyone over 9. Merry Christmas
