1 WARHAMMER 40K Event Format: SYSTEM RULES PACK Highlander The all comers event will run alongside a Highlander event, both will run a separate draw and award separate trophies. The event will follow the missions and rules as laid out in this rules pack. In the first round opponents will be paired randomly, we will post the draw on The Warhammer Forum prior to the event. A swiss pairing system will be used for rounds 2-5 using Victory Points to separate people on the same Game Points. If we only have a small number of entrants into the highlander we will ensure no duplicate games over the weekend. The tournament champion will be the person with the most Game Points (minus any deductions) after 5 games has been played. Cumulative Victory Points will be used as a tie breaker, with sports scores being used if required. Grudges for the first round will be accepted as long as they are called out on the Warhammer Forum in an appropriate manner at least 1 week prior to the event. Please take careful note of the army composition section below, are trying a few new restrictions and changes to add a new twist and also allow some of the new elements into the game.

2 Army Composition: All armies can contain up to 1650 points taken from the codices listed in the next section of this rules pack. We have taken the decision to reduce the points level to try and make games more relaxed in a 2.5 hour time frame. The following restrictions will be in place for all lists: Special Characters are permitted as long as any codex specific restrictions are followed. Stronghold Assault is allowed Data Slates are not allowed Any rerolled save is capped at 4+, eg, screamers with Grimorie would be 2+/4+ Forgeworld rules are allowed restricted to 1 unit per army (40K approved units only, chapter traits can be used) No Lords of War can be selected Only a single combined arms detachment may be selected Except Troops (see below) no unit may be selected more than once. This restriction is applied across allied detachments. This rule applies to variants that have the same stat line: E.g. a Land Raider and a Land Raider Crusader count as the same. E.g. a Dreadnought and Ironclad Dreadnought are different. If a unit comes as a squadron then it may be selected with the maximum models but only a single squadron may be taken: E.g. Astra Militarum could take a command tank squadron but would then be disallowed a Heavy Support Leman Russ squadron (even with one vehicle) Within Troops you may select the same unit more than once only when all options have been taken. Again this rule applies across allied detachments. E.g. no second tactical squad until you have a scout squad (Please note if you try to build an Astra Militarum Blob the subjective comp will be applied) Within Troops any duplicate entries are capped at 3 units. Each unit must be equipped different though (no spam) E.g. first Tactical Squad has Lascannon / Plasma Gun and the second has Missile Launcher / Meltagun. Please don t try to break the Highlander! Everyone gets the point of the event, for this reasons any list we believe is trying to contravene the Highlander will be returned to the sender for modification or can be entered into the all comers event instead. Non-GW, heavily converted and scratch built models are welcome, but they should be easily identifiable. Modelling for advantage is not allowed. Army list submission is before Midnight Sunday 20th July 2014.

3 FAQ: th The Games Workshop Warhammer 40K 7 Edition FAQ documents will be used for all armies. If a new FAQ is released after list submission any rules changes will not be enforced, any new clarification may be considered if they answer difficult questions. Time Limit: Each game is 2.5 hours. Should time be called before a game has ended by turn limit players should work out Tournament Points as detailed below to determine the winner. When time is called players must end their current action and cease playing immediately DO NOT start a turn if both players cannot finish within the time limit!!! Allowed Codices: Army Lists must be chosen from the Current version of one of the following Codex s: All official GW codices on general sale one month prior to the event either via ebook or physical codex. No content from Escalation is allowed. Stronghold Assault will be used but limited to no AV 15 units. No Data Slates are allowed. Codex Inquisition can only be allowed as a primary detachment Codices must have been on general sale at least one calendar month before the event date to be used. Fortifications: All fortifications except the Fortress of Redemption and Skyshield Landing Pad are permitted at Ribble Rumble Fortifications must either be GW official models or of a similar shape / size / function to be allowed. Number of access and fire points must be identical to the official GW model. All fortifications must be fully painted to the same standard expected of your army, they will be judged as part of your force for painting scores. Placing of fortifications is covered in the Deployment section in detail. Please contact us before the event if you wish to use a non GW fortification, to ensue no disappointment on the day.

4 Terrain: Terrain will be pre-set No player is to reposition any terrain during the event. If you would like a board rearranging please contact a referee. Please spend a few minutes before each game classifying each piece of terrain. As GW have decided to remove all rules for non GW terrain in 7 th Edition, the following clarification will be used. Buildings will be played as per page 110 of the 7 th Edition rule book. Terrain on a base that would have been considered area terrain in 6 th edition should be treated as a Moonscape Page 191 of the 7 th Edition rule book. All Ruins grant a 4+ cover save for models that are obscured 25% by the actual ruin or models that on the base of the ruin (regardless of the amount obscured) Treat all woods as a Twisted Copse - Page 190 of the 7 th Edition rule book. Missions & Battlefield: The following Eternal War and Maelstrom of War will be played at the event. Each will be randomised before each round by the current lowest ranked player. GAME 1 - Random Eternal War Mission / Dawn of War GAME 2 - Random Maelstrom of War Mission GAME 3 - Random Eternal War Mission / Vanguard Strike GAME 4 - Random Maelstrom of War Mission GAME 5 - Random Mission from either Eternal War or Maelstrom of War All mission special rules (including mysterious objectives) will be in effect as per the mission entry in the 7 th edition rulebook. For Maelstrom of War missions If you draw a card that cannot be completed discard and redraw. As this is a friendly event you may also wish to allow a player to discard additional cards if they are almost impossible / very, very hard to complete be nice J

5 Deployment: The following process should be used to start each game; this order overrides the process described in the rule book. 1. Discuss terrain and decide types as per the Terrain section of this rules pack. 2. Nominate Warlord and determine traits (page 124/125) 3. Generate Psychic powers if required. 4. Roll for Night Fight if either player wishes to (Page 135) 5. Each player roll a D6, The player who rolled highest places the first objective using the rules from the 7 th edition rule book (page 134) 6. Each player roll a D6, The player who rolled the highest then chooses their table half as per page 131 of the 7 th edition rule book. 7. Starting with the player who rolled highest place any Fortifications using the following rules. Aegis Defence Line: Must be placed wholly within your table half, using the rules from page 130. If needed agree with your opponent to move existing terrain by a couple of inch to accommodate. Bastion / Skyshield Landing Pad / Other Fortification May replace an existing terrain piece, which is wholly within your board half. This terrain piece must be of a similar base size to the fortification being placed. The removed terrain should be stored safely in the plastic box provided under each table. Please DO NOT place terrain on the floor where it can get damaged. (it s not cheap!) Any issues please contact a Judge who will assist. Once your game is over please return the terrain to its original setup, as a courtesy to the next players using the table. 8. Starting with the player who rolled highest deploy forces (page 132) 9. Deploy infiltrators (Page 167) 10. Make scout moves (Page 171) 11. Once both forces have deployed the player who deployed first can choose 1 st or 2 nd turn, if they choose first the player going second can attempt to seize the initiative. 12. Play game Have Fun!

6 Tournament Scoring: (Thanks to Tim King and Restricted access for this scoring) Each Game is split into Primary and Secondary Objectives, both of which award Tournament Points (TP). Primary Objectives are awarded based on the difference of you and your opponents Victory Points as dictated in the mission being played. Each Game a player can achieve 25 Tournament Points, 20 from achieving the Primary and 5 from the Secondary Objectives. Primary Objectives: At the end of the game total up the number of VP s scored by each player and compare the difference to work out the Primary Objective TP score for each player. VP Difference Result Winners TP s Losers TP s 0 Tactical Draw Minor Win / Loss Major Win / Loss Massacre Win / Loss 20 1 Secondary Objectives: Each player can achieve 3 Secondary Objectives in each game: Slay the Warlord, Line breaker and First Strike. Slay the Warlord and/or Line breaker: (Each played as per the Rulebook) are each worth 2 TPs. First Strike: (Thanks to Neil Kerr for the idea) is awarded if you manage to kill/destroy an enemy unit (including single model units like vehicles or independent characters) in YOUR first turn. First Strike is worth 1 TP.
