Meet at the Caesar Creek Nature 4006 Rd. Waynesville, Ohio Mid-Winter Bald Eagle Count Friday, January 12th, 8:30am to 10:30am Meet at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center to Participate in a survey of our national symbol! Bring warm clothes, binoculars, and an enthusiasm for bird watching! To register for this event please contact the visitor center at February Winter Hike Saturday, February 24 th 10:00 am to noon (continuous start times) Meet at the Wellman Meadows Boat Ramp for our annual Winter Hike. Enjoy a wellmarked self-guided hike through scenic snowy landscapes. Walk 3 miles, or the full 6 miles to see both waterfalls in our area. For more information call the Nature Center, March Think Spring-Salamander Hike Hikes will be on ONE of the following dates: Friday - Feb. 23 rd, Mar. 2 nd, or Mar. 9 th at 7:00 pm at the Caesar Creek Visitor Center. Nature's timing is unpredictable and in order to make sure we have the best chance to actually see them migrating to their breeding ponds. The actual hike date will be determined on the Wednesday before the hike. Together we will search for salamanders as they awaken from hibernation and move toward their breeding ponds. There is no cost for this event and no

3 experience is necessary. This is an adventure for the entire family. Please dress for the weather - boots and a flashlight are essential. Remember, salamanders prefer to move in the rain, so be prepared for muddy fun! To register for this event please go to the Clinton County Green Alliance s Webpage at Trilling Toads and Tiny Treefrogs Saturday, March 17th, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Take an evening hike to search for these wondrous amphibians. We ll view frogs and toads up close in their marshy habitat. An adventure for the whole family. Please dress for the weather, boots are required. Bring a flashlight if you have one. This is a Friends of Caesar Creek Program, $2.00 per person. Please call the Visitor Center to register at Pancake & Maple Syrup Brunch March 17 th & 18 th 9:00 am-2:00 pm Try s homemade maple syrup with pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk, and hot chocolate with a chance to take a tour of an old maple sugar camp! Easter Egg Hunt/ Hike March 31 st 1:00 pm Find hidden eggs with surprises inside with Park Naturalist! Starting at the Nature 4006 Rd. Waynesville, Ohio and learn about birds, nests, and eggs. Then paint your own! April Girl Scout: Flower and Gardening badge Saturday, April 7 th, 10:00 am - noon, Join park rangers as they explore the wonderful world of gardening and native flowers. All requirements for these Girl Scout paths will be met during this program. Please pre-register by calling the Visitor Center at Caesar Creek Nature Center Earth Day in the Park Help a Naturalist with service projects Saturday April 21 st Call the Nature Center for more info Webelos/AOL Elective Adventure: Engineering and Geology Badge Saturday, April 21 st, 10:00 am noon (Engineering) and 1:00 pm 3:00 pm (Geology) Attention Webelos! This year we are doing two badges at two different times. Come on out to the Webelos Engineering and Geology Badge for hands on activities. Completely free of charge. Pre registration is required. Hours 8:00 am 5:00 pm Civil War Union Training Camp April 28 th 10:00 am 3:00 pm April 29 th 10:00 am 4:00 pm Learn about the life of a Union soldier during the Civil War as you take part in the training. Ladies, join the Soldiers Aid Society while attending the afternoon tea. Enjoy demonstrations and activities for all ages. Stay for the Soldiers 4:00 pm on Saturday May Spring Birding Clinic Saturday, May 5 th, 8:30 am 5:00 pm Meet at the Visitor Center for a day of spring birding! This is a Friends of Caesar Creek program had is $10/person. Please pre-register for this event by calling the Visitor Center at Vintage Baseball Saturday, May 5 th, 9:00 am 7:00 pm Bring the family out to see how the game was played 150 years ago and marvel at how much it has changed over the years. International Migratory Bird Day Saturday, May 12 th, 8:30 am 5:00 pm Help us celebrate one of nature s great wonders, the annual spring bird migration. Games, fun, and movies for the whole family to enjoy at the Visitor Center. Continuous bird banding demonstrations will take place. For more information, call Join Friends of Caesar Creek and master bird bander, Bob Thobaben for a guided bird walk to discover the many species of migratory birds in the park. Pre-registration is required and limited to the first 15 people. Bob will lead you to areas within the park where you will see between species of birds including hawks, warblers and waterfowl. Memorial Day Weekend Campout May 25 th -26 th Make your reservations early. Spring Gathering & Rifle Frolic May 26 th & 27 th 9:00 am 4:00 pm Step back in time and join the Village as they welcome the pioneers and traders who have come to trade and replenish supplies for the winter! 5 The Great Fossil Hunt Monday, May 28 th, 1:00-3:00 pm (Memorial Day) The ancient Ordovician Sea has disappeared, but evidence of marine life is abundant in the Caesar Creek Region. Meet at the Visitor Center for a program about these fascinating creatures, including the trilobite. Afterward, go to the Emergency Spillway to identify and study a diversity of fossils. For more information, contact a ranger at June Webelos/AOL Elective Adventure: Into the Wild and Into the Woods Saturday, June 9 th, 9:00 am - noon, Attention Webelos! We will be combining two badges in the same day. We ll cover all the requirements for Into the Wild and Into the Woods in a fun-filled program including hikes, tree identification, and animal scat. We ask that you pre-register your child or pack. For more information or to register call the Visitor Center, Village Unplugged Music Festival Saturday, June 9 th Visit our website for Youth Fishing Derby Saturday, June 23 rd, 8:00 am-1:00 pm Join us for this free annual event hosted by ODNR staff and the Harveysburg Police Department. Registration starts at 8am. The Youth pond will be fully stocked and staffed for this event (The Youth Pond is near Caesar Creek Beach). Kids ages 15 and younger are permitted to fish in the Youth Pond. Parents may assist young anglers if needed. Fishing license are not required. 6 US Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center Butterfly Census Saturday, July 7 th, 10:00 am noon Do you like butterflies? Would you like to learn more about these winged creatures or share your knowledge? Please join the Caesar Creek rangers for our annual count in conjunction with the North American Butterfly Association. NABA was formed in order to promote awareness of butterfly conservation and the benefits of butterfly gardening, observation, and education. For more information or to register call the Visitor Center, Pioneer Day Camp July 16th 20th 9:00 am 3:00 pm Daily Pioneer Camp introduces children to daily life of the settlers in Southern Ohio 200 years ago by actually doing the activities themselves (this is a very hands on camp). Kids learn the art of blacksmithing, woodworking, candle making, sewing, hearth cooking, and much more as they spend each day exploring the daily activities of Ohio's early settlers. Register Junior Rangers July 17 th -20 th, 10:00am - noon each day Jr. Rangers is a four day program for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. The program is designed to help children gain a better understanding of the environment and the role they play in it. Of course, nature is fun; therefore, each day the program is filled with hands-on activities and games to re-enforce the concepts being covered. There is a $20.00 materials fee, per child, for this program due before July 10 th. Pre-registration is required. After July 10 th registration goes up to $25.00 per child. Historical Speakers July 21 st & 22 nd 10:00 am 4:00 pm We will have Village Members and guests representing historical figures from U.S. History and the History of the local area. August Nature Night! Saturday, August 4 th, 9:00 pm - midnight Join Park Rangers with a fun night of bat working and mothing Perseid Meteor Shower Campout Saturday, August 11 th Meet ODNR naturalists and Cincinnati Astronomical Society for an out-of-this- world experience! Learn about nocturnal wildlife and discover the stars and planets through family oriented hands-on learning activities! Talk with members from the Cincinnati Astronomical Society and listen to their fascinating presentation. View Stars, planets, and other galaxies through their telescopes or bring your own. Free

7 camping is available at the Caesar Creek beach and food and drinks are provided as a fundraiser for nature center programming. Call the Nature Center at for more information. Marching Through Time August 18 th & 19 th, 10:00-4:00 pm Visit our website for or call Take A Warrior Fishing Event and Ohio Free Fishing Day! Saturday, August 25 th, 7am-2pm Veterans and their families have the opportunity to join local sportsman through the sport of fishing. Veterans who register for this event will have all fishing gear supplied for them. A barbeque luncheon will also be provided for veterans and their families. If you know of or are a veteran and would be interested in fishing with local sportsman, contact a park ranger at If you would like to volunteer or donate to this event contact rangers for more information. And don t forget! Bring your kids to the Visitor Center and borrow a fishing pole, bait your hook and fish at our Kid s Fishing Pond! This is an all day celebration of outdoor fun for the whole family! September Labor Day Weekend Campout September 1 st -3 rd Make your reservations early. Naturalist/Fossil Program for Home Schooled Children Friday, September 14 th, 10 am - noon Do you home school your children? Would you like to have them experience the same types of programs that school and other groups do? Well come on out to the Visitor Center and join in to learn about the environment, animals and fossils of Caesar Creek! Pre-registration is required, call Monarch Butterfly Day Saturday, September 15 th, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Take part in an international study that tracks the migration of the Monarch butterfly as it journeys toward Mexico. Help to capture, tag, record and release the butterflies to help scientists understand how these fragile insects make the remarkable journey over 2,000 miles. Please wear long pants and bring butterfly nets if you have them. 8 Prairie Seed Collecting Saturday, September 22 nd, noon-2pm Join the park rangers and learn about Ohio s native prairie plants. Come prepared to collect prairie seeds, which will be used to restore other prairies in southwest Ohio. Wear long pants, bug repellant and sunscreen. Bring gloves and small brown paper bags if you have them. For more information call the Visitor Center, th Annual BioBlitz! Friday September 28 th - Saturday, September 29 th, 4:00pm 4:00pm Park rangers, local experts, and citizen scientists just like you will be coming together to participate in BioBlitz! This is also part of National Public Lands Day. BioBlitz is an event that partners local experts of all kinds with citizen scientists to find and identify as many species of life around the park within a 24hr period! Participants have a chance to get up close and personal with fish, birds, bugs, and even fungus as they strive to find as many species as possible. Kids have a chance to win prizes as they find species. This event is great for all ages and expertise levels! Free camping is available upon registration. For more information please contact park rangers at (National Public Lands Day) Saturday September 29 th Haunted Village September 29 th -30 th 8pm - midnight October Perimeter Trail Hike Sunday, October 3 rd, 10:00am to 3:00pm Join us for the 13 mile guided hike around the southern portion of Caesar Creek Lake. Pack your lunch, water, and camera for this scenic trail through the colorful fall foliage. Meet at the 50 Springs parking lot to join the adventure. Call the nature center at for more information. Harvest Festival & Gathering October 20 th & 21 st 10:00 am -4:00 pm Celebrate the harvest as the village is preparing for winter. Take part in the activities of the early 1800s. Bring a bag of individually wrapped Treat candy and get FREE admission for one. Halloween Campout October 26 th -28 th At Caesar Creek lake campgrounds! 9 Trick or Treat! Saturday, October 27 th, 3:00, pm-6:00 pm Children may treat around the village and families can enjoy a treat in the Bullskin Inn. Admission is Free for this event. November Owl Moon Saturday, November 3 rd, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Join us for a moonlit owl hike. We'll begin with a story, the Owl Moon story which tells the tale of a father and daughter on a winter hike in search of a Great-Horned Owl. November is when owls re-establish territories and prepare for nesting that begins in the heart of winter, an adventure for the whole family. Please dress for the weather, bring a flashlight if you have one. Registration is required and space is limited. This is a Friends of Caesar Creek Program, $2 per person. For more information or to register call the Visitor Center, Banding Day Saturday, November 10 th, 8:00 am 11:00 pm Join Park rangers and professional bird banders as they increase research on local avian species. This is your chance to see these up magnificent animals up close. Fireside chat Saturday, November 17 th 5:00 pm 8:00 pm During this event we will have speakers who will be talking about the history of Ohio specifically the area around the. Cast Iron Cookout Sunday November 10 th, 11am- 1pm Bring your family and learn how to cook a meal over an open fire. All equipment and instruction will be provided. Pre-Register for $15. We need your help with our 10th Annual Caesar Creek Lake / Spring Valley Marsh Christmas Bird Count. For early risers we will look and listen for owls at 6 am. We ll regroup at the Visitor Center at 8:30 am, break into teams and search for waterfowl and songbirds. We ll meet at the Visitor Center at 1 pm for a hot lunch sponsored by the Friends of Caesar Creek. Experts and beginners are encouraged to attend. Come out for all or part of the day.
