Birds (1) At the Pointe des Roches : Take some pictures of the birds in the coastline - how different species do you capture? Do you observe birds in active migration (flying to the south-east)? How many? At Lycée Gaston Monnerville : Watch a birdhouse for about ten minutes and report here the activity you noticed. Member of the group Birdhouse number Activity noticed Feathers are not the only elements that can be colorful in birds. Which is staring at you?
Birds (2) At the Montagne des Singes : Locate on the map the heard or seen Screaming Piha (Lipaugus vociferans - Piauhau hurleur), one of the noisiest bird in the world. At the Île Royale : The Ruddy Turnstone LL2 was banded near New York May 5, 2009 and was seen in the Devil islands November 23, 2012 and November 6, Is it here now? The Ruddy Turnstone with a light green plastic flag on the right tibia, with a (faded) code LL2 engraved.
Birds (3) These raptors find their food differently. (images not at the same scale) What relationship exists between their morphology, the way they feed and their flight? Harpy Eagle / monkeys / forest Roadside Hawk / stalk hunting (rodent, lizard...)/ town, garden... King Vulture / carrion located by sight / forest Peregrine Falcon / birds caught in flight / coastline Black Vulture / carrion located by sight / open areas Swallow-tailed Kite / forest & edge / insects captured & eaten in flight Greater Yellow-headed / Lesser Yellow-headed/ Turkey Vulture (figured) / carrion located by smell / forest (1), open area (2 et 3)
The Ariane V launch pad At the IBIS site : How far is the Ibis site from the launchpad? Use a chronometer app to confirm the official data. The velocity of the sound is about 340 m/s. The two satelites launched by Ariane V are ARABSAT-6B and GSAT-15. Find some informations about them and fill the table below. Informations ARABSAT-6B GSAT-15 Nationality Owner Mission Lifetime (years) Mass (kg) At the top of the Montagne des Singes : Using a ruler (or any kind of object that can measure or compare lengths), estimate the distance of the launchpad. Explain your method of determination.
Vegetation and Atmosphere At Montagne des Singes : Because of climate, soils in Guiana are in most cases poor and thin. However the vegetation is lush. How some palm trees have adapted to the poverty of the soil? What problem, particularly visible on the ridge of the mountain, plants must adapt? Take a picture of an epiphytic plant, i.e. a plant growing on tree without being a parasite and whose roots have no contact with soil. What is the origin of minerals needed by this kind of plant? At the CSG, Service Meteo : Except hotness and humidity, is there a difference between the atmosphere in Guiana and in Europe? How high the balloon is going up?
