2 Welcome to Traders Traders has been supplying environmentally friendly hemp products since We require no minimum order to purchase, and warehouse our products in Los Angeles for immediate delivery. We have the ability to ship anywhere in the world, with larger orders being sent directly from our factories. is the common name given to the cannabis plant. Products made from industrial hemp use the bark fiber, seeds, and core stalk of the whole plant, whereas marijuana is technically the flower of the female cannabis plant. Industrial hemp is distinguished from the marijuana plant by its low levels of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. The hemp we use is cultivated and processed in several countries around the world including China, Romania, Canada, Italy, and Australia. Under current Federal law it is illegal to cultivate hemp in the United States, but legal to import and possess products made from industrial hemp. The items we sell are processed in many of the same countries which grow the hemp, while other products are manufactured in the United States using imported raw materials. The farms and factories which produce our goods are privately owned. The working conditions are free and fair, and do not employ any child labor. Many of our products utilize the most advanced methods of cultivating, processing, and refining hemp, while others employ traditional methods which have been used for centuries. Traders West Olympic Blvd., Suite Los Angeles, CA Tel: Fax: As the premier plant fiber, True or Cannabis sativa has served mankind for thousands of years. is an extremely fast growing crop, producing more fiber yield per acre than any other source. leaves the soil in excellent condition for any succeeding crop. Where the ground permits, hemp s strong roots descend for three feet or more. The roots anchor and protect the soil from runoff, building and preserving topsoil and subsoil structures similar to those of forests. Moreover, hemp does not exhaust the soil. plants shed their leaves all through the growing season, adding rich organic matter to the topsoil and helping it retain moisture. fiber is one of the strongest and most durable of all natural textile fibers. Its longer length and greater surface area contribute to a stronger yarn or twine when spun or twisted together. Pure hemp yarns and fabrics are stronger than flax, and much stronger than cotton. Not only is hemp strong, but it also holds its shape having one of the lowest percent elongation of any natural fiber. This means hemp does not stretch out when it is tightly pulled. is perfect as a natural fabric for upholstery since it can be pulled taut, and remain firm throughout the life of the furniture. Apparel made from hemp won t have puffy elbows or knees when worn which is a characteristic of flax linen. Cotton has much more stretch to its fiber which doesn t make it very suitable for upholstery, but useful for making knit fabrics and certain apparel items such as T-shirts and jeans where some stretch is desirable. has the best ratio of heat capacity compared to flax and cotton, giving it superior insulation properties. This keeps hemp warm in cold weather, and cool in warm weather. Organic Cotton Conventional cotton uses approximately 25 percent of the world s insecticides and more than 10 percent of the pesticides. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers, which can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply. It has a much lower environmental impact. The lack of harmful pesticides in organic cotton production, which are associated with health consequences such as asthma, birth defects and cancer, also creates a positive, eco-friendly working condition that doesn t compromise the health of those processing the cotton. Plus, since conventional cotton may retain risky toxic residues, people with allergies and sensitive skin can wear organic cotton with a comfort of both mind and body. 2

4 Fiber The fiber is one of the most valuable parts of the hemp plant. It is commonly called bast, which refers to the fibers which grow on the outside of the plant s stalk. Bast fibers give the plants strength. fibers can be between approximately 0.91 m (3 ft) and 4.6 m (15 ft) long, running the length of the plant. Later the fibers may be cut to shorter lengths. Depending on the processing used to remove the fiber from the stem, the hemp may naturally be creamy white, brown, gray, black or green. In Europe and China, hemp fibers have been used in prototype quantities to strengthen concrete, and in other composite materials for many construction and manufacturing applications. A mixture of fiberglass, hemp fiber, kenaf, and flax has been used to make composite panels for automobiles. The first identified coarse paper, made from hemp, dates to the early Western Han Dynasty. shives or hurds are the core of the stem. In Europe, they are used for bedding (horse bedding for instance), or for horticultural mulch. 100% Bark Fiber This hemp bark fiber is pealed directly from the hemp stalks. This is about as raw as it gets. It has not been processed or combed. The lengths are up to 8 feet long since they run the entire height of the plant. This fiber is flat and about 1/4 inch wide. It is similar to corn husk in that the fibers have not been separated from one another. This fiber can be used for insulation in packaging, stuffing, or decoration Order# F-B1 $20.00 per KG 20 $16.00 per KG 50 $10.00 per KG 100% De-gummed Fiber De-gummed hemp fiber has been processed to remove lignin. Lignin is a product of the hemp plant which holds fibers together and gives the stalks their rigidity. When removed from the fibers, they begin to separate, becoming softer and finer. These fibers are now thin enough for spinning alone or blending with other fibers. De-gummed hemp fiber is soft absorbent and may be used as a natural stuffing for upholstery or pillows, or used as a soft animal bedding. Order# F-DG1 $14.00 per KG 20 $11.00 per KG 50 $7.00 per KG 100% Hurd hurd is derived from the core of the hemp stalks. Also known as hemp shives, it looks similar to wood chips and is composed of short, woody fibers. Its porous nature allows the free flow of air and makes it very absorbent. It is naturally resistant to mold and bacteria, making it excellent as an animal bedding for both small mammals and horses. It can also be used as an all natural growing medium for both indoor and outdoor gardening. This product is the raw material used to make both hempcrete (hemp cement), as well as pressed fiberboard and paper. Order# F-H1 $6.00 per KG 20 $4.00 per KG 50 $2.50 per KG Machine Yarn machine yarn is used for making textiles. This yarn is thin and not suitable for hand knitting. We offer this yarn in both 100% and /Organic Cotton blends. Our most popular inventoried yarn sizes are shown at the bottom of this page. These hemp yarns can be used in both industrial knitting and weaving machines to manufacture textiles to your own specifications. 100% hemp yarns are spun using flax machinery. They use the numeral metric measurement of sizing which is the same as linen yarns. /Cotton blended yarns use the cotton yarn system of measurement since they are spun using cotton machinery. In both systems, the higher the number, the thinner the yarn. Besides the sizes shown below which we stock, Traders can provide 100% hemp yarns from 5Nm - 60Nm, and hemp/organic cotton blended yarns from 7s to 30s. All yarns may be plied together to produce thicker yarns. Please call our office for more details % Combed Fiber sliver (Untwisted combed Fiber) is the step just before spinning into yarn. It is used to make twine, yarn, cordage, textiles, paper and hand crafts. Also known as plumbers hemp, it can be used to help seal pipes. Fiber length > mm (4-5 inches long), A grade. 6 Webbing webbing is a very strong, narrow flat [3 mm] strip of woven fabric often used in place of rope. It is a versatile component used in climbing, slack lining, towing, parachuting, military apparel, belts, suspenders, leashes and collars. In furniture webbing can be used in couches and chairs as a base for the seating areas that is both strong and flexible. Webbing is also used to reinforce joints and areas that tend to flex. The strength of the hemp fiber makes it a natural alternative to nylon or polyester webbing. Rope The use of ropes for hunting, puling, fastening, attaching, carrying, lifting and climbing dates back to prehistoric times. Some of the very first ropes ever made were twisted from hemp fibers. rope was used during the age of sailing ships as part of the sails rigging and anchor cord. It is one of the strongest natural ropes in the world. Rope is of paramount importance in fields as diverse as construction, seafaring, exploration, sports and communications. 7 What is board? board is a type of medium density fiberboard made from the inner woody fibers of the hemp plant. is an annual crop which can be harvested every year. Medium density fiberboard, also known as MDF, is normally made from ground-up trees, held together with resin, heat, and pressure. No trees are used to make board. board can be used for a variety of projects because of its characteristically smooth surface and uniform consistency. It is sold in 4 x 8 foot sheets, which can vary in thickness from 1/4 inch to 1 inch. It will not warp which makes it an ideal choice for cabinets and molding projects. board is often used in place of plank wood, particleboard or high density fiberboard because when sawed it produces a fine even edge. Because of how smooth the surface is and the hemp s absorbability, it takes well to painting and only needs a primer and two coats of paint to have an attractive finish unlike some other wood products that may require more sanding and additional coats of paint. Because it does not warp, it is also used quite a bit in bathrooms for cabinets or in other high humidity applications. Order # Description Thickness Size Sample BOARD1 100% board 1/2 4 x8 $20.00 $17.50 $15.00 BOARD2 100% board 1/2 4 x4 $15.00 $12.50 $10.00 BOARD3 100% board 1/2 2 x4 $8.00 $7.00 $6.00 Applications Home builders, cabinet makers and carpenters use hempboard for furniture, shelving, flooring, and molding. The wood is very versatile and is used for a number of applications. It is used often for doors because it insulates sound and heat very well. Taken in conjunction with its smooth surface and ability to take paint well, it is an ideal material for panels and walls. The wood is also very flexible in the type of treatments that it can take such as nailing, gluing, screwing or stapling. When hempboard is used for cabinets and other wood working projects, it is very often covered in a veneer or laminate of real wood to disguise the MDF, especially along edges that may be visible. You can use hempboard around your home in a number of ways. If you are looking to build furniture, a dog house, or another type of simple wood structure, hempboard is a great choice. It is less susceptible to insect infestation than wood and it is less likely to swell or buckle, making it a great choice to use outdoors. And it is a very affordable alternative to solid wood. board also makes a great art material for painting. You can use many different kinds of paint to create a look that is original and fun. You can also shape it, since it is less dense than other fiberboard and wood. You can cut holes into it and sculpt it into any shape you desire. Then add a touch of color for something really special to put in your home. Environmental Benefits of board board Saves Trees! is an annual plant which renews itself every year. It can produce four times as much biomass as a forest over a ten year period. Prevents Deforestation Deforestation is clearing Earth s forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land. Forests still cover about 30 percent of the world s land area, but swaths the size of Panama are lost each and every year. Both environmentalists and experts reckon that the remaining wooded areas could be consumed in approximately less than a period of 40 years. Deforestation also negatively impacts biodiversity. An estimated 70 percent of the planet s animals and plants reside in forests; if these habitats disappear, so will many of their residents. All Natural board is a great wood to use for those who are environmentally conscious and sensitive to their surroundings. board s binders are all natural and do not include any chemicals such as formaldehyde. 8 HEMP textiles As a fabric, hemp provides all the warmth and softness of a natural textile but with a superior durability seldom found in other materials. is extremely versatile and can be used for countless products such as apparel, accessories, shoes, furniture, and home furnishings. Apparel made from hemp incorporates all the beneficial qualities and will likely last longer and withstand harsh conditions. Many of these properties unique to hemp are due to the porous nature of the fiber. Under the microscope, hemp does not look like a flat rod, but rather is filled with nooks, crannies and holes. has a greater surface area and is more water absorbent. Increased surface area allows the fiber to dye well and retain its color better than any other fabric including cotton or linen. This porous nature allows hemp to breathe, so that it is cool in warm weather. Air which is trapped in the fibers is warmed by the body, making hemp garments naturally warm in cooler weather. This flow of air hinders the growth of anaerobic bacteria, giving hemp antimicrobial properties. Knits Knitted fabrics are much more elastic than wovens and are primarily used for T-shirts and other clothing that require flexibility. Apparel made with knitted fabrics tends to be more formfitting than apparel made with woven fabrics. Knitted fabrics are generally warmer and more comfortable, feeling cozy as they are worn close to the body. The absorbability of hemp makes this fabric excellent for reusable diapers. Specialty Weaves is an old fiber. In fact the very first pair of Levi jeans were made from hemp. The wide range of fabrics utilizing our environmental fibers continues to grow. New and unique weaves are being developed every day. These innovations create unlimited possibilities to combine earth friendly fibers into a variety of textiles enabling a diversity of products and uses. 9 Finishing Washing We can wash all of our fabrics to remove a majority of the shrinkage and soften the hand. Tubular knits may also be split if requested. The minimum order to wash is 101 yards per style, and the added cost to the price is $2.00/yd Dyeing All our fabrics may be dyed to any color our customers require. We use only low impact dyes and dyeing methods. If we dye in Los Angeles, the minimum is 200 yards per color per style. The time to dye will take about 2 weeks. The cost is $3.00/yd. for lightweight fabrics up to 9oz., and $4.00/yd for heavy fabrics 10oz. and heavier. If we dye in China, the minimum is 500 yards per color per style, the time is about 8 weeks and the cost is $1.00/yd Home Furnishings Home furnishings are the fastest growing market for hemp textiles. fiber is the strongest of all natural fibers without any stretch. This makes it perfect for upholstery fabrics where it must be pulled taut, yet not break or stretch out. Slip covers, shower curtains, lamp shades, and duvet covers are also great items to make with these textiles. is a natural for the home. Water Repellent In its natural state, hemp is very water absorbent. Therefore we can treat our hemp fabric with a water repellent if needed. This is absorbed into the fabric making it extremely water resistant. The minimum order for this is 35 yards. The time is about 1 week, and the cost is $3.60/yd Fire Retardant Natural hemp is not fire resistant, it will burn like cotton. Some home and industrial uses legally require the material to be treated with a flame retardant. The absorbent nature of hemp works well to absorb this treatment making it extremely fire retardant. The minimum order for this service is 35 yards. The time is about 1 week, and the cost is $3.60/yd Herringbone, 10.5oz. 100% Herringbone Weight: 10.5 oz. per square yard $16.00/yd 50 yd $14.00/yd Order #: CS-H12B Crossweave, 17.5oz. 100% Crossweave Weight: 17.5 oz. per square yard $20.00/yd 50 yd $18.00/yd Order #: HS633 SAVA, 10.4oz. 100% Romanian Sava Width: 59 Weight: 10.4 oz. per square yard $18.00/yd 50 yd $16.00/yd Order #: R-SAVA Made in Romania Stretch By adding a touch of lycra to natural fibers, you enhance their quality and performance, giving you the most elastic, environmental friendly fabric available. 10 Linens linens are made from 100% hemp and are constructed in a plain, straight weave. Highly absorbent and a good conductor of heat, hemp linens feel cool to the touch. They are smooth, making the finished fabric lint free, and it gets softer the more it is washed. linen is the strongest of the vegetable fiber linens with 2 to 3 times the strength of cotton. It is a very durable, strong fabric and one of the few that are stronger wet than dry. It does not stretch and is resistant to damage from abrasion. linens uses range from bed and bath fabrics (table cloths, dish towels, bed sheets, etc.), home and commercial furnishing items (wallpaper/wall coverings, upholstery, window treatments, etc.), and apparel items (suits, dresses, skirts, shirts, etc.), to industrial products (luggage, canvases, sewing thread, etc.). 11 Silks Silk is a natural protein fiber. The shimmering appearance for which silk is prized, stems from silk cloth s ability to reflect incoming light at different angles. When silk is added to hemp, a whole new genre of fabrics is created. They have a smooth, soft texture that is not slippery, unlike many synthetic fibers, making it comfortable to wear in warm weather and while active. Its low conductivity keeps warm air close to the skin during cold weather. It is often used for clothing such as shirts, blouses, wedding dresses, high fashion projects, negligees, pajamas, robes, skirt suits, sundresses and underwear. /Silk s elegant, soft luster and beautiful drape makes it perfect for many furnishing applications. It is used for upholstery, wall coverings, window treatments, rugs, bedding and wall hangings as well. Canvas Canvas is an extremely heavy-duty, plain-woven fabric used for making sails, tents, marquees, backpacks, and other items which require sturdiness. It is also popularly used as a painting surface, typically stretched, and for fashion handbags and shoes. (The word Canvas is actually derived from the word cannabis. ) This exceptionally strong weave is perfect for shoes, bags, hats, wallets and home furnishings. canvas is extremely durable due to the natural strength of the hemp fiber and its natural resistance to mold and ultraviolet light.
