4 Arabesque This elegant large scale fretwork is a fine example of Arabesque art. Translated as surface decorations based on rhythmic linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing foliage, tendrils or plain lines, often combined with other elements. Arabesques are a fundamental element of Islamic art. Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. The name originates from a series of chairs found in the Bargello Palace in Florence, from the flame stitch motifs.
