2 Clothing I Grades (9-12) CLOTHING SELECTION CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 1: The student will understand the various factors that influence clothing selection. The student understands the use of clothing for various purposes and 9-12CI 1.1 the impact that family, peers, and media have on the clothes they wear describes the basic functions that clothing fulfills explains personal influences on clothing choices compares the influence of family and friends on clothing choices evaluates the media s impact on clothing explains how societal changes influence clothing. CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 2: The student will understand the impact of cultures and customs on clothing selection. The student understands how the climate as well as the culture and customs 9-12CI 2.1 of where one lives influences the clothing that is worn explains how clothing reflects culture gives examples of clothing symbols discusses clothing customs and expectations in the U.S. culture describes appropriate outfits for certain occasions.
3 CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 3: The student will understand how clothing is a tool used for self-expression. The student understands how to use clothing as a means of self-expression 9-12CI 3.1 and personality while keeping in mind the importance of first impressions evaluates the importance of first impressions describes how personality can be expressed through clothing compares the effects of conformity and individuality on clothing choices explains how personal style develops. DESIGN CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 4: The student will understand the impact of design elements and how to use them in choosing and creating clothing. The student understands how using the elements of design when choosing 9-12CI 4.1 and creating fashion will assist them in making choices that help the individual look their best describes the impact of color identifies primary, secondary and intermediate colors on the color wheel describes color schemes that work well together chooses colors that are flattering to them identifies the various types of line used in clothing identifies the four basic shapes used in clothing design understands how the element of space is used in clothing design identifies the various types of fabric textures used in clothing demonstrates the use of design elements in choosing, and creating fashions.
4 SEWING CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 5: The student will understand how to select patterns, fabrics and notions for sewing projects. The student is able to understand the elements of design and sizing to 9-12CI 5.1 select a pattern and then use that pattern for purchasing needed materials and putting the project together explains how to take body measurements explains how to use measurement charts to determine figure type, or body build, and pattern size defines pattern envelope, views, pattern guide-sheet, cutting layout and sewing directions tells what information is on the pattern envelope and how to use it uses elements of design and information on the pattern envelope to select fabric and notions for the sewing project explains how information on the pattern pieces and pattern guide-sheet assists in cutting and assembling the garment. CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 6: The student will understand how to use a variety of equipment, tools and supplies for apparel and textiles construction, alteration and repair. The student understands that appropriate and safe use of equipment, tools 9-12CI 6.1 and supplies will make the completion of their project easier demonstrates proper use of and care for a sewing machine demonstrates safe use of small sewing equipment and supplies.
5 CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CI 7: The student will understand and demonstrate basic skills for producing and altering textile products and apparel. The student is able to use their understanding and skills to produce at 9-12CI 7.1 least one finished project and a set of construction techniques samples demonstrates how to use a pattern for purchasing needed materials for layout, cutting and marking, and for construction directions demonstrates various techniques used in construction of apparel and textile products, seams and seam finishes, facings and interfacings, darts closures and hems and hem finishes.

7 CLOTHING II CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CII 1: The student will understand production processes for creating fibers, yarn, woven and knitted fabrics and non-woven textile products. The student is able to use their knowledge of fabric content and 9-12CII 1.1 construction when making choices for apparel and textile products. Objectives The student lists and describes natural and man-made fibers explains how yarns are formed lists and describes the various ways in which fabrics are constructed compares the characteristics of woven and knitted fabrics describes the various finishes that are used on fabrics and their purpose. DESIGN CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CII 2: The student will understand the principles of design as they apply to choosing and creating apparel and textile products. The student is able to use the principles of design, when choosing and 9-12CII 2.1 creating apparel and textile products, creates the desired optical illusion describes ways to determine body shape and size defines the principles of design-balance, proportion, emphasis, rhythm, harmony demonstrates the use of design elements and principles in choosing and creating apparel and textile products.
8 SEWING CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CII 3: The student will use a variety of equipment, tools and supplies for apparel and textile construction, alteration and repair. The student understands that the appropriate and safe use of equipment, 9-12CII 3.1 tools and supplies will make project completion faster and easier and with the desired end result demonstrates safe use of and care for a Serger machine demonstrates safe use of sewing equipment and supplies. CONTENT STANDARD 9-12 CII 4: The student will understand and demonstrate advanced skills for producing and altering apparel and textile products. The student is able to use their knowledge and skills to produce at least 9-12CII 4.1 one finished project that is made of a fabric never worked with before and uses advanced techniques in the construction demonstrates an understanding of fabric properties when choosing a fabric never worked with before and during the construction process understands and demonstrates advanced techniques used in construction of apparel and textile products-collars, waistbands, sippers and buttonholes, set-in sleeves, use of Serger for finishing.
